This is similar to what I expect from Mullen. You take the players you have, make them aggressive, make them fight like champions.

and that pitcher that Jet teed off on transferred to UNF from UT- Knoxville. So, that guy was good enough to play in the SEC.

... I actually have hope of getting a two out base hit. Also, it seems we're going to try to take advantage of our lack of quality by putting a whole lot of pressure on the defense. I like the strategy, but it cost us yesterday... still though, I'm glad to see aggressiveness out there for once.

I will say the RF for UNI was by far their best player. And the odds of someone throwing three guys out at third is not very good. Still, our coaches should have realized that the guy didn't suck, especially after the first two throws and probably should have been more cautious the third time.

That is the bad thing about being aggessive- you sometimes run yourself out of innings.

And you're right, the whole attitude of the team has gone from "Oh ****" to "Let's get this done".

And I'll tell you- I can't wait for Cohen to get his players in. That's when things are really going to get fun.

Made it worth staying out in LFL in the cold! Anytime you have a four-run bottom of the ninth, it's a good day!

Unless of course you're losing by 5 or more runs.

I feel good for the players. I went to the Baseball Banquet on Thursday night and you can see the change in attitudes as the players were having fun. This team will be better when they get the sticks going.

We don't have much talent and depth, but if Routt can step up consistently and we can get some productive innings from our bullpen, we could be halfway decent. I'm still staying with my prediction of 30-28. I'm not sure that would be good enough to get us in the NCAA's or not. Getting Hogue back healthy will also help us on the basepaths as well. We also need some people to step up around Powers. If we don't, he'll get pitched around all year long.

apparently hurt his ankle in some PE class that he is taking.

Anyway, if we get him back 100%, his bat would help out tremendously. I do know he played today, so that's a good sign.

If he can keep that kind of pitching up, this team could make it to a regional. And that would be a great start to the Cohen era.

is going to make a regional. We do lack pitching depth, we don't have a lot of superstars- and the one's we have are a stretch to call them a star anyway- but we are scrappy and we don't quit.

Like I said- this is sort of like spring training but the games count. Cohen is still trying to figure out where people are going to go and who can help us out.

And Crosswhite looked pretty good as well. I'd like to see Devin Jones get a shot at being the closer, if only for this year.

Who will be our number 1 closer? It's good to know who your go to guy is late in a game, especially an SEC game. I have no clue who that guy would be right now. This team won't win enough games to blow the leads that we do have because of a lack of a closer. We don't have to have a Mariano Rivera, but we can't have an Adam Larson. Also, these pre-conference games are huge for us. These are the games that we can rack up wins and hopefully creep over .500 and sneak into a regional in Palo Alto or somewhere. We can't lose a 17ing mid week game to Memphis and make it this year.

When it came off the bat, you knew it was gone. I wasn't expecting it from him and was questioning in my mind if he was the right guy to have at the plate. But with the first pitch he saw, he proved me wrong and I'm glad for it.

I felt bad for the guy from N. FL on the mound. He stood there for awhile just just staring out to right field... no believing what just happened. He'd pitched effectively to that point.

And to the home plate ump... when a guy lays down a bunt and then steps on the ball in fair territory while leaving the box, his *** is out.

will be in the lineup somewhere. I wondered why Cody Freeman wasn't playing much, he didn't look good catching today.
I like the fact Cohen was giving pretty much everyone a chance to show there stuff for the weekend. Pitching will be improved but is lacking. You gotta love the intensity and passion Cohen has and no doubt it will rub off on the players and the fans. I think it's just a matter of time before the dawg tradition will start showing again.
Oh R Powers looked good at short, if he can just hit in the mid 250 range it will really help.
When Hogue gets well we will have a decent offensive lineup.

The guy I kept hearing about was Bussey, because he supposedly throws in the low 90's, but when I saw him pitch, his velocity looked good, but it didn't have a whole lot of movement, and he got hit a little bit.

To me, I think Crosswhite is the most likely candidate for the closer role, but like I said, I think Devin Jones should get a look. He has a great fastball, but when he started it seemed like he kind of ran out of gas by the third inning or so. He is really raw, and he needs innings. If he was our closer, he could really let it fly because he wouldn't have to worry about pacing himself. And who knows? Bussey may have just had a bad day for whatever reason.

all of this is exciting, i dont have a problem with the outs we got being aggressive. I look at it as a coach testing his players to see who will follow him regardless and have that aggressive attitude. Also, you can do these things now so that by the time we are playing SEC games, everyone has to have these things in the back of their minds. The thought that we will run with some of the slower people on the team can alter defenses and open holes.

Now was the best time to do this and I feel like I can assure you we wont get thrown out 3 consecutive times at 3rd by the time SEC play starts

Unfortunately it seems like "aggressive" will be the new "character" among state fans. I have seen that word mentioned as much on this board this weekend as I used to see "character" mentioned by the genespagers during Croom's days. I have a feeling I will get tired of hearing how aggressive everything is sooner than later.

And we might want to temper our excitement over this team. We beat a couple of teams we were supposed to beat this weekend and should probably wait and see what we do against some decent competition before getting to excited

After his two/three-run error and strikeout looking to end the game the previous night, good to see him with the spunk to come in off the bench and be aggressive yesterday. Can't help but like this team.

with the actual product on the field than "character" ever will. You watch a game and tell me you don't go away thinking about how "aggressive" things were ... They want to get on base, they want to get in the pitcher's head by calling time in the batter's box, they want to get in the pitcher's head on the basepaths, they swing at the first pitch .... It's nice to see the team doing the little things, and if there's excitement there, who are you to stop it?

I am not stopping anything, nor am I trying? My only point is that after everything we did on the field this weekend, someone was posting how aggressive it was. Are we going to point out how aggressive every play is after every play?

we've had too little of it for years. In baseball and football both our comlacency has been lulling our fans to sleep including myself. Excitement was needed and this is the ticket

as personal as it did, hatfield, but saying "we should probably temper our excitement" after opening weekend just seems kind of funny. I don't think anyone's saying that we're headed to Omaha, but going 3-1 against almost anyone with a come-from-behind win, a dominating pitching performance, and an aggr- err, proactive (?) approach does everything but "temper our excitement".

Aggressiveness is an actual style of play. Something you can see. Something we haven't seen in years from out teams. That's why it's being thrown out as much as you've seen it...
Character was an imaginary quality that Croom made up to compensate for his lack of coaching ability. He felt that he could get by for years by selling the same old line: "We may not win a game all year, but these 'boys' have character"... I never once saw any more character from Croom's group as a whole than Jackie's as a whole... They both had some great guys, but they were both riddled with bad apples as well.

Apples and oranges...

South Alabama will be the toughest team we have played this season so far. It's like Cohen has said, there will be speed bumps throughout the season.

The teams we beat were both barely over .500 last year. At the same time, UNF beat us twice last year and lit our pitching staff up like a Christmas tree. It's very obvious that we have improved, and will get better, and the program should also continue to get better.

That said, it's hard to not be excited about the new attitude of this team.
