That article was a win-win for ol Ron because he got to play into the large contingent of Ole Miss faithful in Memphis, and slander the coach of U of Memphis' first opponent... Glad our athletic program didn't let him get away with it.

Higgins has long been of the majority CA opinion (newly added Veazey not included) that little Mississippi and its little college programs are a second rate laugh in every regard. Higgins is also of a dying old guard of newspaper columnists who can't piss straight covering an event without having their asses properly kissed.

I think he kid was kicked off the baseball team at State. Higgin's OCD *** takes a jab at Mullen at every opportunity.

Higgin's appropriately laid blame where blame is due and then tried to talk his way out of it:<div>
</div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial, helvetica, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "><p style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; ">The agree part: Because of increased competition between newspapers, websites, talk shows, the entire social media phenomenon, more and more people in the media are under pressure to report or comment on every little thing that happens in a program. This is to drive readers to their websites or newspapers or whatever.</p><p style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; ">In this zeal, there's much sacrifice of journalistic ethics, because many of the people reporting news haven't been trained as journalists. They don't understand ethics. They have no filter. To them, any said, overheard or rumored is fair game.</p><p style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; ">
</p><p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; ">If it weren't for people like you and your ilk Ron Higgins then there might be a little more openness. Your breed of "journalists" would be allowed more access. Unfortunately, the world of 'gotcha' has caught up. Go ask Maynard the Goat at Silky's for some sports commentary.</p></span></div>

If the article was written about Larry Porter and Memphis it would've been spot on.

he's talking about the readers. We've become fixated with the scandals and that is what sells. If OM had a scandal the likes of Miami there would be a 100 post thread before it got locked. But if a MSU player does something heroic it would get to 40 maybe. Honestly, beside Mississippi school's fans, how many people know the Kaleb Eulls story. It's not a slight at writers it's a comment on how people are fixated with the seedy side of life.

He was actually on the radio yesterday morning making these exact points/complaints about Larry Porter and Memphis.

I think he wanted to get this out there but didn't want to piss off Porter and his readership by piling on memphis. So he decided to just substitute State for Memphis and go with it.

What an absolute hack of a journalist. Ron Higgins is pathetic.

he didn't like what Mullen said, tried to paint us with a tar brush that Joe quickly smacked aside, and he comes back using Saban as an example, and then tries to generalize us back in with everyone else, and point out that he still doesn't like what Mullen said. Throw in a couple of "see, State fans, I'm a good guy because..." stories, and he's done.
*sigh*

"the hit dog will holler" as in "if you throw a stick into a pack of dogs the hit dog will holler (bark)".

Just keeping in the spirit of old Ron......bless his heart.......

I don't read his crap or any other writers crap. Unless something is quoted here by them. Their opinion means no more to me than the casual message board poster's opinion. It's just chatter. What does matter is the game on the field and what our coaches have to say. That's about it.

that this was amisprint

Why me? Because the coaches knew I've been doing this a long time and they knew I'm fair. They knew I'm out to get anybody. They knew as the son of a former sports information director and as a father of a former college football player, I understood all sides of an increasingly complex issue.

While I make a lot of misprints, I don't get paid to do it.

I prefer a well worded, and short, Mark Twain type response instead of War and Peace.
