Feel like there's been more of these lately about "road rage." You forget there are people out there running around who are grown adults with ZERO control of their own emotions. How unhinged do you have to be to put somebody in the ground over something that happened in traffic?

Yup. And it sounds like he McKnight was trying to calm the situation down, and the dude still felt his best choice was to ice him. And not only shoot him, but then stand over him and make sure McKnight knew he shouldn't have messed with him before executing him. It's really sad that a scum bag like that gets to live (albiet in a prison cell for the rest of his life) and a guy that was loved by so many like McKnight dies because of said scumbag.

Now it sounds like the dude who killed him has been released without being charged, so I'm curious as to what the rest of the story is.

Was thinking about this as I got out of the car and it's playing out exactly as I suspected. It's gonna get weirder and more confusing before it's over and I'll guarantee you these things:

  • Unless lots of video emerges, we'll never know what really happened.
  • People will feel compelled to choose a side on what they believe happened anyhow
  • The whole thing could have been avoided if people would keep their doors locked, windows up, mouth shut, hands down

That story is also complete bs according to the parish sheriff. Mcknight was NOT shot lying on the ground and those words were not spoken by the shooter. All three shell casings were found IN the shooters car. Sounds like Mcknight was the aggressor and got more than what he bargained for. The facts will come out. The sheriff also said there was no video that has been mentioned on facebook.

Maybe I'm weird but if somebody is trying to approach my vehicle and threaten me, I'm rolling up the windows, locking the doors and driving away.

Recent history shows that tue first "witness" statement that makes the media headlines, are probably not the most accurate. Google the Jefferson Parishs news conference and listen to what he says.

Very sad. As someone else said, though, seems to be alot more to the story than was initially reported. Tragic no matter what, but it will be interesting to see what comes to light as we learn more. Them releasing the shooter makes me think they know something they haven't released yet, especially in the current political climate, as otherwise they'll look terribly incompetent for doing so.

Charges or no, I just can't wrap my head around being a civilian and spending the rest of my life knowing I killed a person and wondering every day til I die whether there was something I could have done differently.

I can't wrap my head around being so angry over a traffic incident, that didn't involve serious bodily injury, to the point I would exit my vehicle and approach another vehicle, not knowing whether or not that person was armed.

Its something that those who concealed carry hope we never have to find out, but speaking for me personally it's a risk I am willing to take

I can understand why, even if I don't necessarily feel the same way. There's an adage that goes, "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6," and when it comes down to it that is the reason I choose to carry and accept that responsibility.

That being said, being robbed or even beat up I'd take over wondering about that decision IF I knew I wasn't going to die. My problem is, with an armed robbery as a specific example, I don't KNOW that giving them what they want will save me, they could decide to shoot/stab me anyway, it happens. The only time I would ever use deadly force is when I am in fear for my life (not just a black eye).

My view is likely jaded a bit by my career. For better or worse, I constantly see the darker side of humanity, and over time it makes you wary of people and what they are capable of.

But who is to say they only rob you or kick your ***? One hit can kill you. Sorry, I will kill before I will be killed.

You're family will wish you had a gun and protected yourself when you end up in a nursing home from traumatic brain injury unable to wipe your own butt or feed yourself let alone speak to them. I guess my first act would have been to brandish the gun to let him know to back off. IF McKnight saw the gun and continued on he clearly wasn't rational. I always wondered why everybody aims for the chest when shooting a short gun....until I actually shot them. Most conceal carry weapons are meant for very close quarters defense and IF you get killed by one at more than about 10 yards you were either very unlucky or killed by a very skilled shooter. Hence why we see so many rounds fired in those close quarters incidents. You just point and squeeze quickly as many rounds as you can until your attacker goes down.

Sounds like the shooter had a history of road rage/assault. I don't understand how the eye witness account is being poo poo'd by the police? Unless the guy is wearing a tin foil hat and talking to invisible ppl. Who would just give an utterly bs account?

Well the eye witness account said the shooter gotbout of his vehicle, went over toward McKinght's vehicle and opened fire. Standing over him before firing one last shot. However, the expended shell casings were found in the shooter vehicle. So either the shooter was in the vehicle or he has aweapon that shoots bullets with casings that have a honing device similar to a carrier pigeon.

There are any number of reasons why someone would give an utterly BS account.
