Not that we shouldn't be hard on Talty, because it is his job to be a journalist, but this is a situation created by the CL. John is 2 years out of school. His assignment is to write on a subject that is extremely controversial, and he does not appear to be getting much senior coaching or mentoring as he goes. His employer is failing him as an employee as much as he is failing us as readers.

In my opinion, this type of coverage has no place at a newspaper. Cover commitments and have the occasional interview, but the amount of rumor, innuendo, and opinion writing required to do this job makes it more suitable for a fan site. It is almost impossible for him to do his job in a way that is both interesting and objective.

The Clarion Ledger has quit even trying to be a legitimate newspaper and is just scrambling to survive at all.

Thanks for reading.

Autographed 8x10s are available if you include a SASE.

Also, the concept of you thinking I'm using a thesaurus only makes you look that much smrtr.

Talty needs to stick to writing about topics he knows something about. My lesbian neighbors know more about breast and football than he does.

Why do people continue to say this? Because Rick Cleveland isn't there anymore? I see no difference between the Clarion Ledger and any other paper in metro areas about the same size. It's more of a reflection of the newspaper and media industry in general, not the Clarion Ledger. At least in my opinion.

I agree that it's reflective of the newspaper and media industry in general. There just isn't much real journalism out there now. It used to be unheard of for a reporter to go public with anything without 2 sources. They would probably be fired the first time they got caught doing that. Now it's routine.
