Man, it would of made my day if those idiots hired Wojo.
Zero chance of that. He’s not even a candidate after his disappointing stint at Marquette.

It’ll be Scheyer, who apparently is a really sharp guy who’s built up nice recruiting contacts. Still, that’s an awfully big job to hand to someone without head coaching experience.

Yeah them hiring Scheyer brings my excitement level of the K news to an 11/10 to like a 8/10. Was wanting them to screw it up with one of his failed head coaches like Wojo or Capel

Do you all REALLY think it will be Sheyer?? LOL...check out the Brad Stevens announcement, which happened to occur on the same day. hmmmmm.....
Yes, it will be Scheyer.

The Stevens news has nothing whatsoever to do with this. Believe it or not, two different things can happen on the same day purely by coincidence.

So do you seriously think Ainge retired just so Stevens could take over as the president for a year and then leave to go to Duke?
Maybe Stevens was Duke's top choice until he let them know he would be taking Ainge's job. I guess it could be coincidental but still funny both news releases were within an hour or two of each other.

Ainge was retiring anyway, the K announcement had nothing to do with him retiring...K reached out to tell Stevens his intent and feel him out. Stevens is in a position where he won't be obligated to finish coaching a team while Duke is looking to announce replacement after NCAAT.

It's all there...

Scheyer is to be named coach in waiting by Duke. So yeah it will be him. And zero chance it is Stevens. ZERO.

So Duke, Nike, NCAA is perfectly good handing their golden goose over to someone with absolutely ZERO head coaching experience? Okkkeeeeee

The only reason Scheyer isn’t on the list with Wojo and Capel is because he hasn’t been given the chance yet. Capel was an awesome recruiter as well. Not so much a head coach. How about our own Orlando Antiqua?

Well don’t take my word for it. Duke is going to announce Scheyer is the coach in waiting. Whether you believe it or not, I really don’t care.

Long way from now till the end of the season. I wouldn't write in ink anyone as coach they say right now.

****.. Im not even assuming Coach K is gone. I could totally see him getting all the praise and help all season only to be like "im coming back for 1 more year!"

Good point, but I rather them hire a "proven failed Head coach" then just an "unproven coach".

Whomever takes over Duke has world by ***. They run the entire sport at all levels. NBA (Silver). USA Basketball (Grant Hill). CBB (Sean McManus/Coach K). If you can't win with those advantages that most new coaches have, you can't coach a big time program.
Those advantages will be out the window. When all that cheating that duke has done over all those years comes, and it will, and when it does the new coach will be the one burned. It will be just like ucla after wooden left.

Hell.. let it be Brad Stevens..

No one in any sport has had THIS much clout and this much of a stranglehold on the governing body.

As far as I'm concerned, any coaching hire is a step back. Simply because that preferential treatment is gone, and at the very least, will take time to build back up.
You forgot about john wooden, who won 10 titles, none without cheating.

I think Mike White will interview for this. His dad's retirement as AD was good timing.

Those are huge advantages they have control over. This isn't a rogue booster who was supplying recruiting for UCLA BB/USC FB programs in an era that was easy to cheat. This is having elite shot callers at each level of the sport that aid your program. Didn't even mention the Duke media horde that are "national" broadcasters as well.

Coach K leaving makes even more sense now that Duke has a new AD. He won't have to deal with her and can leave that to new HC. She'll be under heavy pressure too because she goes way of Vanderbilt program--she'll be gone within 2 years at Duke.

Well I wasn't alive for that. But the sport was also much more in it's infancy.. or at least, not in an era with internet, fame, and tons of scrutiny. For Coach K to be able to do what he's done for 20 years during THIS day and age, is truly appalling and baffling.

She will be gone even quicker if she starts any kind of investigation of the basketball program. Remember this stuff on williamson taking money has just hitting the media. If she wants to assert her power, that is what she will start first thing.

The whole Brad Stevens thing reeks of trying to retain talent. Ainge goes ahead and rolls out so they can promote Stevens and thereby greatly reduce any kind of tempting offer from Duke. Now the Celts can go into damage control mode and rebuild with a new vision for the future. As usual, a smart move on their part.

********. Didn’t happen. It’s not and never was gonna be Stevens, who just accepted a job he wants more than any coaching job.

You’re making yourself look foolish by continuing to grasp at the Stevens straw. It ain’t him, it’s Scheyer. You’re simply wrong, accept it.

Was Capel a great recruiter or was it just K/Duke behind him?
