ACC improves to 7-3 vs. SEC this season. At least 3 more ACC/SEC games: VT-Arkansas, GT-Kentucky, Louisville-LSU.
5-8 still ain't great. Worst year of the new millennium for the SEC.SEC could win all 3 or lose all 3. Personally I think the SEC goes 2-1 in those games remaining.
Usually these comparisons are stupid. When they place the sec's #7 team against another conferences #5 it isn't a very fair comparison
Most years I'd be inclined to agree with you. I don't think it washes this year though. Amazingly, UK may have the best OOC win of any SEC team not named Alabama. Please put any of these ACC teams in the SEC and let them go through an entire season and then come back and see the results.
Vandy accounted for 2 of those wins by the ACC.
That's my point. The SEC had some teams (LSU, UGA, Ole Miss) that are usually very good that were a little down. On average, Beating those teams mentioned above is a great accomplishment because they are normally very good. Most years I'd be inclined to agree with you. I don't think it washes this year though. In the past, UK, Vandy and Miss State were usually easy wins for most teams. Oh, I know there were exceptional years, like when Franklin was at Vandy. Hopefully, in the future, teams won't put a W by UK prior to playing them, as a lot of teams did in the past. I want the SEC to do good, but the one I care about is UK. Vandy and UK have been doormats long enough. Vandy may remain there, but I believe UK is tired of it, and will do something about it.
OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
I think an Alabama-Ohio State final is what you're going to get. Although I could see Washington playing Alabama a lot tougher than people think they will. This can be settled with an Alabama - Clemson final. But the only ACC team I am concerned with is Georgia Tech.
If we win that one 2017 will be a very good year.
About 50 yearsMaryland recently left the ACC for the Big 10. When's the last time a SEC team left the SEC?
From the six SEC teams that landed on the bottom of the SEC East and West, the ACC got 4 wins (Vandy twice, Ole Miss, and. USC). Of the bottem six teams in the ACC, only Georgia T played the SEC, beating Vandy and UGA.
The worst teams in the SEC played the ACC.
By conference record, we (GA Tech) were the 8th best ACC team this year with a 4-4 ACC record. NCSU was tied with Wake for 9th with a 3-5 ACC record. UK was 5th best with a 4-4 SEC record, tied with UT, UGA and TAMU. VU was tied for 9th with USCe, Arky, and MSU. So we (ACC #8) have beaten the SEC #5 and #9, with another #5 coming up Saturday.
I think the sample size is too small to make much of a determination using this metric.
We beat ACC #2. Good luck with your prediction on Saturday.
Louisville beat FSU 63-20 and it wasn't really that close. Your assertion that FSU would beat them 6 or 7 out of 10 is based on absolutely nothing.Your team played well that day. We'll see what happens this Saturday.
Herein is the fallacy. I think if you were to put this year's FSU and Louisville teams on the field 10 times, FSU walks off the winner at least 6 or 7 times. Not sure what happened that night in Louisville.
A longitudinal study is what is needed here, but teams change every year, so it is a bit useless. Leads to spirited discussions, though.

Ranking teams in their conference just based on their conference record, here are the results:
Sec 2 Florida lost to Acc 4 FSU
5
5 Tenn beat 3 Va Tach
5 Georgia beat 4 UNC lost to 7 Ga Tech
5 UK beat 1 UL
9 South Carolina lost to 1 Clemson
9 Vanderbilt lost to 7 GA Tech and 8 NC St
3 Auburn lost to 1 Clemson
13 Ole Miss lost to 4 Florida St
So, as you see, almost every matchup pitted a team from the SEC that finished lower in their conference than the team they were playing did in the ACC. UL and Clemson who had the best record in the ACC played in 3 games while Alabama played in 0. SEC was down this year but you matchup teams 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2 all the way down, you probably find quite different results in this case.
No way to test that theory. But, UL obliterated FSU, did not merely beat them. Based upon that, I place no confidence in the theory.
We could test it this way: I'll take 43 points and FSU in next year's game. Wanna bet? I think you'd be tempted to take FSU straight up next year at the Choke.
We all know that the 'Ville is not 43 points better than FSU and that many would take the Noles straight up at home. That is the basis of my opinion. But... it's just an opinion.
The other P5 conferences each have a team or two that would have fared pretty well in the SEC this season. SEC was pretty poor this year, and outside 'Bama....we don't have anyone playing at an "elite" level right now. It is not because the conference is so tough that we beat each other up/wear each other down. No, we're just not a very good conference this year when compared to years past when you had one or two teams (often from both divisions) who could play with anyone. Please put any of these ACC teams in the SEC and let them go through an entire season and then come back and see the results.
Vandy accounted for 2 of those wins by the ACC.
Stinger, next year is next year. As to "ifs" and "buts" if they were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas. (Thank You Dandy Don Merrideth!)
Further, if my Aunt had balls, she'd be my Uncle, but one can speculate as to anything one wants.
Is your theory about FSU being better than UL over a ten year period? If so, we could test it and I would tend to actually think your number of FSU wins to be low. But, if your theory is about this year's teams, why would I entertain a bet for next year's teams?
Your theory is just opinion that is based on very little other than your assumptions and preconceived feelings about the two teams.
My rejection of that theory is based upon the actual head to head of THIS year's teams.
UK was 3 points better than UL who was 43 points better than FSU. FSU was 38 points better than Boston College who was 7 points better than NC St. NC St was 24 points better than Vandy who was 9 points better than Tennessee. UT was 21 points better than Virginia Tech was 31 points better than North Carolina was was 28 points better than GEorgia Tech. So, Kentucky should beat Georgia Tech by about 204 in their bowl game if all goes according to plan.
1964 GA. TechMaryland recently left the ACC for the Big 10. When's the last time a SEC team left the SEC?
Oh dang. But GA Tech was 10 points better than VA Tech which was 31 points better than UNC, which was 2 points better than FSU, and GA Tech was also 31 points better than Vandy, which was 17 points better than UT, which was 3 points better than UGA, which was 6 points better than Auburn....

Rob Daniels @oriolesfactoids 8h8 hours agoBy this, there were 5 games that were upsets (defined as the lower ranked team winning). SEC won 3 of those, ACC won 2.Ranking teams in their conference just based on their conference record, here are the results:
