And Ely De La Cruz. Although EDLC has 30 more ‘bolts’ this year than Westburg. Kinda implies he’s not always busting it down the line for the Reds.

Has there ever been an elite MSU talent that we got less overall impact from than Westburg?

Not really his fault, of course. He had a few clutch pinch hit appearances as a freshmen in 2018, and some spot starts here and there. Then of course gets credited with the banana rally, of course.

2019 - Flashed a little bit with 6 HR’s, .858 OPS, but also struggled a bit in the field. Solid player nonetheless.

2020 - Had the Cape Cod summer ball after 2019 and looked primed for the same type of 3rd year leap we saw from Renfroe, Rooker, etc. Then COVID shut everything down.

He did have a badass robbery of Freddie Freeman today if you haven't seen it
Saw it live. He's definitely a plus outfield, and plus base runner. Needs to keep fighting at the plate and being eye disciplined

Went 2 for 4 today. Reached way down and got a low one for his second hit. Really nice piece of hitting against a very good pitcher

He’s a better than average mlb player on multiple levels and hasn’t hit a ceiling. I absolutely see him making a few all star games….and I’m not a metrics guy….just visuals and contact sound off the bat

I think that 2020 team was probably poised for a championship run. I remember we started slow, like 8-4, then won 4 straight including the last 2 in Biloxi against a good Texas Tech team to get to 12-4. Then they shut it all down.

we had Westburg, Foscue, Allen and Jordan along with several other key pieces. Of course had state won back to back CWS with Lemonis, we would have never been able to get that guy out of Starkville. He would have had a statue between Clark and Palmeiro!

I use to really buy in to the idea that the '20 team was going to finish what '19 couldn't. Now having watched the '22 and '23 teams as well as '24 and '25. I don't anymore. That team struggled out of the gate. Plus most of the pitchers that were key pieces in '21 were true freshmen in 2020. Who's to say that Foxhall and Lemonis would've developed them during that season? Versus them getting to work with private coaches and former coaches back at home during the 2020 season once it was cancelled. I think Foscue and Westburg are fantastic players. Obviously they were both first round picks and have made it to the show, but I'm not sure either of them are the kind of leaders that were able to push their teammates to their best like Jake and TA could. Plus you had TA injured in 2020 too(wrist fracture?). I could be convinced that if the 2020 season had played out that State wouldn't have won the CWS in 2020 or 2021. Lemonis would miss his window to win it all then would be fired in 2022 or 2023.
