He is taking over for Jason Witten who is now at OU coaching TEs. That is a good job with much more security than an assistant to the assistant special teams coach. This hiring process for this job has been going on for a couple of weeks. Rhule knew Martin was a candidate when Ekeler left for USC.

Probably making more money as a high school head coach in Texas than the assistant to the assistant special teams coach

Especially since im sure the Matt Hatter will find a way to continue to pay him!

Its reminiscent of guys working under Saban then graduating to the high school level. Textbook succession planning.

($123,600), assistant special teams coach Josh Martin

And he was going to be promoted to full time special teams coach according to Rhule. You think he'd be making a lot more than a high school coach.

A quick ai search says head coaches at large schools in Texas can make over 140K. Texas does NOT have a state income tax which is something most free board posters never consider when they look at salaries. Personally, I’m glad he left. Hire a new coordinator.

He was rumored to be apart of the team. No different than he was now. Maher or Humphrey will get the head job, clearly he knew he wasn't getting the coordinator position. That job was open in Mid January and before Ekeler was announced at USC. So Martin would have had to show interest pretty early on in the process for it to be announced this quickly.

Strange that a HS job is better than a college job. But perhaps money is not all that important to the guy. Its a private school so perhaps pays very well. Sadly am fast losing my interest in Husker football and frankly for all of college football these days. Guess I am becoming a dinosaur, LOL!

I don't know that it is a better job, just that it is a good job that will probably pay as much as he was making at Nebraska. 2 time state champs and loaded for next year. Plus he is the guy making the decisions as a head coach.

It is crazy that I am starting to really dislike Rhule. I don't even really know why but he is just rubbing me the wrong way.
Not at all. It's the same song and dance each year with him.

Rah rah in the offseason, a couple good hype speeches in week 1-4, then wheels completely falling off due to a problem that will surely be fixed next year, which never comes.

Players typically adopt the attitude of their coach, and Rhule is someone who gets high off his own supply.

You can actually pinpoint the exact moment when he lost the locker-room. It was halftime against Colorado in 2024 while we were beating the brakes off of them physically. Instead of messaging "step on their throat and give me 30 more in the second half", Rhule chose "umm guys let's not be disrespectful about this."

This doesn't resonate with young kids, do you think Cignetti ever took the feelings of the opposing team into account when he was pouring 60 on a ranked opponent? It doesn't resonate with assistant coaches who understand the attitude kids need to adopt, and has thus led to massive turnover and failed hires.

I have no idea what you are talking about with that part.

But, I would love to have Cigs instead of Rhule.

I'm talking about the literal video of Rhule talking to the team at halftime, where the boys came to the locker-room fired up and he essentially told them to calm down, then outsourced his message to Bud Crawford.

I've linked it with a timestamp so you don't have to search too hard.
