What is supposed to be so brutal about this? He was having to be restrained from attacking a cop and took a swipe at the one who hit him.

I don't know about brutality... maybe slightly excessive, but the cops appeared to be willing to let his public drunkenness go as long as he was calm. Then he lunged at a police office. They subdued him, and once he was subdued they ended the rough stuff.

Lesson: if you don't want to have your *** kicked by a cop, don't drunkenly lunge at him.

The drunk asses friends should've yanked his *** up and gotten him away from there and told the cops they were taking him home. Leaving his incoherent *** there and letting him. Swipe at a cop as he yells 17 u, he got what was coming to him in my opinion.

More on this incident here: http://www.kingfish1935.blogspot.com/2013/03/what.html

Apparently, before this footage picks up, this guy was attacked by two guys that ran off. These cops were there trying to figure out what happened, and this guy decides to yell some choice things at the cops that are there to get his statement.

Oh and the subject here is the son of Rankin County Sheriff's Deputy. This should end well...

Two things wrong with this.

First of all, he had already been pulled back from the police officer, he wasn't still lunging. And, two, I was taught to never ever hit a suspect in the head/face--- It could kill him/her.

Nothing there that shows police brutality. You swing at a cop, you deserve what happens next.

I'm not convinced the cops handled this the best way. However, the drunk idiot started the whole thing. You act like a stupid, drunk, moron and situations like this can occur. The guy needed his *** whipped by somebody.

I don't care how drunk and stupid that kid was, police should NEVER smoke someone in the head with a baton. If any of us were to do that, it's aggravated assault. Police officers are sworn to protect and serve, not assault people. That was beyond "a little excessive". It was sickening and this officer should be charged with a crime

The guy was obviously not going to calm down...

I agree that it might have been slightly excessive but it got the job done. I assume the old man in the green shirt was trying to stop this from happening yet he yells at the guy who is filming it with his phone which may actually help the guy who got smacked in the face with the club. There comes a point when you have to know when to drink and have a great time, none of those should involve getting so drunk that you piss off a cop or lunge at a cop. People who get that drunk away from home/ in public usually get what they deserve. Makes no sense...

Hell yes!!

This is way more interesting to read about than who the 17 is should bat in the 2nd or 3rd slot and when or when not to b***.

Two things I see here: 1) the drunk idiot shouldn't have lunged at the cop and deserved to be brought down. 2) the cop shouldn't have struck him the head, no excuse there.

My thinking on both accounts

My first thought was they were in a situation with numerous drunks who had already been fighting. They had to quickly take control of the situation before it escalated. After watching the video several times, it looks like the officer draws back and waits for a clear shot at the head.

Killing him would have gotten the job done, too.

Police officers are taught and trained to take down belligerent subjects with minimal injury. Knocking this guy in the head with a baton was well over the top. There are two police officers there who could more than handle the situation without leaving a pool of blood on the sidewalk and sending the guy to the hospital (for more than simply getting a stomach pump).

Absolutely correct. He could have taken him down without the potential for making him a vegetable for the rest of his life. It was clear he was just looking for a reason to use his shiny new baton.

i agree with this and that is exactly why I say he should be charged. He should be fired. There is no way police should be allowed to do this. This isn't Russia

Maybe the cop is a sixpacker and heard him say "You want a piece of meeeeeeeeee" and he indeed wanted a piece.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. However, if this would have been the other way around this would be blown way out of hand and considered racist. Again, I see nothing wrong with this. Those two cops handled the situation well.

You think police can beat people? You realize that if you do that, it's a felony right?
