I got tired of reading the words "jock" and "ish"..and "the BOOM will beat State's band"..I mean their band is entertaining but this isn't the BET classic it's a football game.

"Trae wants to show MSU what they could have had. He will have a career day."

Bwaaaaahahaha.

By career day, I assume this person means he'll go 9 of 23 for 86 yards and only 3 interceptions as opposed to the usual 5.

They play the same damn show every year. If you've seen it once, you've seen it.

Let me give you a preview.

First they will line up in the endzone except for the drumline.

Then, they'll play a drum cadence while their announcer is saying words that don't make sense. Like "Superflous wall of sound and entertainment."

Next they say that they are marching to 1,000 beats a second and they just kind of prance out on the field.

Then, they play Get Ready.

Next song will be whatever hip hop/R &B song is popular that month while their strippers, uh, dance line "performs" while the band bobs their head.

Then they play some other song that I can't remember. (JSU rocks the house maybe the name of it?)

Finally, they play Get Ready and leave the field.

If you want to see something cool from a SWAC band, watch Southern's band spell out the score at halftime. Perosnally, I think JSU's band is overrated. Southern and Florida A&M would blow them away any day.

Like I said, my biggest beef with them is they do the same show year, after year, after year. It's really easy to do the same show year after year and just plug in holes with Fr. and then you have upperclassmen who know the drill and 2/3 of the music. And the one song that they actually have to halfway learn doesn't have any marching with it.

MSU's band has to learn 2-3 halftime shows a year, a pre-game show (which is basically the same year in and year out), a Patriotic Show, and then Homecoming, which is really easy to learn. All told, they have about a month to learn their shows. Then, they have a plethora of stand music. It's something like 60 plus pieces of music, and a lot of times they have to sight read, and it sounds sloppy.

My biggest beef with MSU's band is the plethora of stand music. I think they should do what LSU does- have a "first down song for offense", like Go! State, Go!State!, a second down song for offense, and etc. Then you play the fight song when you score, or whatever. This would do a lot of things that would make MSU's band better. First of all, it would cut down on stand music- many of the songs don't even get played during the year. And more importantly it would cut down on having to work on stand music. This would allow the band to work more on the halftime show and get it better and also they would sound better in the stands because 1. They wouldn't be sightreading some random song and 2. It would improve communication, which is another huge problem in the stands with the band. A lot of times you'll only have about 1/4 of the band playing because they don't know that they're about to play, and half of the ones that do can't find the damn music. But with LSU's system, all you have to do is A. know whether the team is on offense or defense and B. know what down it is. All you have to do is look at the Ginormatron on the fieldhouse to figure it out. Lastly, doing this system would allow the band to work on "horn flashes" in the stands, because they would know going into the game ahead of time what to do.

Now, in my fantasy dream world, MSU would have a band like Jacksonville State. But it's not going to happen. First of all, they have a DCI corp based out of there. Second of all, they have a great music school. Both of those would require a LOT of money and a LOT of other organization, leg work and approval from things like the college board. So, I'm not going to ***** people out for not donating 50 bucks to the band, because while I'm sure it would be appreciated, we can only realistically go so far. It would take millions.

Another thing that I think would help the Maroon Band out immensely would be for the athletic dept. to include the marching band under the AD. Unless I'm mistaken or things have changed, we're the only band in the SEC that doesn't get money from their AD and is fully funded by the music dept. I think the AD's at the other SEC schools basically give the band money for things like travel, uniforms, equipment, and etc.

is for the band to poll the fans and students to see what they want to hear and for constructive criticism.

They could easily set that up on their website or on the athletic website.

Or heck, they could do it the old fashioned way and give out polls to the fans at the game.

I was in the band my whole 4 years at State and we do get funding from the AD. It goes towards scholarships. The catch is that you only get a band scholarship if you do marching band in the fall, which helps out football due to the AD funding. I believe this happened right before my freshman year. I was a freshman tenor sax player getting $800 a semester I think majoring in accounting when some of the senior brass players were only getting $300-400. And when I was a senior, some of the freshmen were getting almost full rides.

It was pretty special how they managed to screw up that riff.

It's a lot easier to play those riffs on a guitar with your fingers than with 200 people trying to play those riffs with their tongues.

That's why they have to play it so freaking slow.

Plus, the amplifiers help with the sound as far as the guitar is concerned.

For some reason, I don't think Metallica intended for that song to be played by a marching band.

Oh, and a lot of bands like Metallica are people that are really talented and can play music without writing down every little note and rhythm. I wouldn't be surprised if Hetfield uses a piece of notebook paper with words on them. Then, you have these music geeks that come along and try to put what they are playing down on paper, and they butcher it.

But I would be surprised if they didn't use the feedback at all. That's the whole point of doing a poll, to find out what people want so that it can be delivered. It's not meant to be a Genespage "all is well" fluff board.

Something like playing the Hey Song before the team comes out is a pretty simple thing to change, but it's also something that the band doesn't realize that some people may want. Something like not playing Breadfan is pretty simple to fix as well.

It's not like the band is out there trying to piss our fans off.

I read all the posts and I don't think they are delusional they are optimistic; after all we have been a bottom feeder in the SEC for a while. The poster geauxtiger94 had a pretty good post.

I predict we will beat them pretty good. They may not even score unless we get so far ahead Mullen puts in the third string. I can see a 38 to 0 or 42 to 6 score.

This is the only game I am sure of. We will be too big, too fast and will out talent them. This might be the only time we have these advantages next year.

I think they are just being fans of their team. I don't have a problem with that.

I think we are going to put 50 on them though. I don't think they score a touchdown unless it's due to a mistake by our offense (pick-6 or returned fumble). They might get a couple of field goals. I'm predicting 52 - 6 MSU.

BTW, "hey go state" is actually "Rock & Roll Part II" by Gary Glitter. But just saying "hey go state" (not to be confused with "go state") sounds a lot better than "rock & roll part II".
