I also have students that I pay handsomely to set up several tents, flat screens, etc. on Friday afternoon. It is rather convenient for them because they are there already there setting up their own tents as well. I too heard the rumor that Southern Traditions had taken over prime Junction real estate to rent to tailgaters and it pissed me off. Here's why,
but in no particular order:
1. Yea, four years in one place is not quite a "tradition" but there will be no "tradition" if we can't establish some since of consistency with tailgating in the Junction. It's in its formidable years, leave it alone. See: helmet logo discussions. this will still be tents in the junction, still a tradition
2. It is a mad dash Friday afternoon, tempers will flair, you have your regulars vs. the new guy that didn't know that was your spot for the last two years. In the end it gets worked out, but there is a lot of effort on the students part. they will be by the christmas tree, closer to the stadium, out of the way of the mad dash
3. Students. Where else in the SEC can a student tailgate in the shadow of the stadium. Nowhere. Why don't we just bring back LT's Winnebago and put all the Southern Tradition people in there? i'm a student and getting one, i like the idea. and don't say most can't afford it, when you divide it by how many students are usually in a tent, it's not that expensive. besides, the only students that were ever out there were pledges.
4. People, we are not THAT desperate for money. The board of the bulldog club met Saturday to discuss how we are going to spend our new found riches, i.e. Dudy Noble renovations, North end zone expansion, and others. If you responded negatively to Dental Dog along this rationale, you are the one with the financial wet diaper. everyone can always use more money. if you haven't noticed, we're a little behind the rest of the sec in this department.
5. Bama Quad is not "Right In Freakin Front of the Stadium!" It is where people with no real connection to the university congregate before a game. no one at bama has a "real connection" to the university
6. Byrne is not "the next LT". He has done wonderfully. I have agreed with everything he has done. Hopefully,I will agree with him putting Southern Traditions over by Barnes & Noble like what has been posted here. Seems like a fair deal. If it is where I was told it is going to be, I'm <17>n' pissed. 20 or so 10 x 10 tents will offset a **** load of people. It will blow up in his face. see 2.
7. I was also told that the space Southern Traditions has rented is also for Visiting Team tailgaters that are under contract with their company. Again, if I have to listen to Hotty Toddy, being belted from what was my "spot" in the Junction. Damn, just damn, it ain't gonna be pretty. there will be visitors in the junction no matter what.
8. Finally, most of the people paying a "tailgating company" like Southern Traditions for a set up would also most likely fall for a big sign at South Farm that said "WELCOME TO THE JUNCTION!" So put there candy asses there. you've already let them know the junction is in the shadows of the stadium, so i doubt this will work.
Done. Pile on Pussies.
