Me and my friends are using a private tent rental/setup/takedown business. Maybe we'll get a kickass spot! I was thinking we might get the shaft but it may be the other way around. Thanks for the info. Seriously though, the guys that are setting ours up said they would be up closer to the M-club where it's usually not as crowded. I liked our old spot under the trees but oh well.</p>

As far as I know, Southern Tradition Tailgating is the only one that is setting up TV's, Dish, Tents, Tables, ect. in the area described in this thread, BUT it is not where the Players get off the bus. It is a North of that area. The athletics department is not setting aside any of the area, so I can assure you they haven't given their souls to the "rich" like Bama and Auburn. The area is still first come/first serve. Southern Tradition Tailgating wants to promote MSU in the Junction and will use only MSU tents and chairs, just making it easier on fans that don't want the hassel of setting up and breaking down equipment on Gameday.

1. The football TV contract is only a extra 4.7 million if I am correct. Not 10 million more than last year (it's a total of 10 million).

2. Aren't the spots in the Left field lounge leased on a yearly basis? And doesn't that shoot your LFL point all to hell and back?

The old contract paid about $5M per year per school, the new one pays about $15M per year per school.

the escalation of the payments over the life of the contract. We'll get "only" a $5M increase this year to $10M total, which will increase to probably about $20M total by the end of the contract, for an average of $15M total per year.

then I think $10 million more a year better depicts the benefit of the contract. But yes, in the immediate, its not $10 million more.

Why are you trying to pick my argument apart?

I think you are jealous that my user name is on the better end of the digestive tract.

Unfortunately, none of you share my view. In the future, we will all just rent a tent from this company or MSU. If we refuse to rent or can't afford to rent (like most students) then we can do our tailgating at South Farm with the cows. By the way, do they still have those cows out there with the plexy glass windows on their sides. So that you can watch the digestive process.
when you divide 2000 dollars by a lot of people, it's not that expensive. we got 3 tents, $2200 for 140 a person.

is setting our tent up for 2000.00. this is the only company i know of that is doing it. we are tent 21 and it sounds like a sweet deal. my understanding of the location is that it will not be in the "prime location" area of the junction. the guy heading the whole thing up told me that there will be a section roped off between barnes and noble and the home side of the stadium, same end of the field as the m club. this is where they will set all of their tents up.

Didn't know there were "good" or "bad" spots. But I think it makes sense that the people in the "best" spots should be paying for them. I guess

the ENTIRE quad is basically a "pay lot." you have to pay to tailgate their. can't remember how much a year, but it generates some revenue.. i'd pay a couple hundred bucks to tailgate in the junction. all it does is generate some dolla bills.
Wrong. Very little of the quad is pay lot. There are a few reserved spots but they are in areas where tailgating was not allowed before.

I also have students that I pay handsomely to set up several tents, flat screens, etc. on Friday afternoon. It is rather convenient for them because they are there already there setting up their own tents as well. I too heard the rumor that Southern Traditions had taken over prime Junction real estate to rent to tailgaters and it pissed me off. Here's why,
but in no particular order:
1. Yea, four years in one place is not quite a "tradition" but there will be no "tradition" if we can't establish some since of consistency with tailgating in the Junction. It's in its formidable years, leave it alone. See: helmet logo discussions.
2. It is a mad dash Friday afternoon, tempers will flair, you have your regulars vs. the new guy that didn't know that was your spot for the last two years. In the end it gets worked out, but there is a lot of effort on the students part.
3. Students. Where else in the SEC can a student tailgate in the shadow of the stadium. Nowhere. Why don't we just bring back LT's Winnebago and put all the Southern Tradition people in there?
4. People, we are not THAT desperate for money. The board of the bulldog club met Saturday to discuss how we are going to spend our new found riches, i.e. Dudy Noble renovations, North end zone expansion, and others. If you responded negatively to Dental Dog along this rationale, you are the one with the financial wet diaper.
5. Bama Quad is not "Right In Freakin Front of the Stadium!" It is where people with no real connection to the university congregate before a game.
6. Byrne is not "the next LT". He has done wonderfully. I have agreed with everything he has done. Hopefully,I will agree with him putting Southern Traditions over by Barnes & Noble like what has been posted here. Seems like a fair deal. If it is where I was told it is going to be, I'm <17>n' pissed. 20 or so 10 x 10 tents will offset a **** load of people. It will blow up in his face.
7. I was also told that the space Southern Traditions has rented is also for Visiting Team tailgaters that are under contract with their company. Again, if I have to listen to Hotty Toddy, being belted from what was my "spot" in the Junction. Damn, just damn, it ain't gonna be pretty.
8. Finally, most of the people paying a "tailgating company" like Southern Traditions for a set up would also most likely fall for a big sign at South Farm that said "WELCOME TO THE JUNCTION!" So put there candy asses there.
Done. Pile on Pussies.

Your point about the visitors being able to tailgate in this reserved section is untrue. I'm a buying customer of this Southern Tailgating Co. and I think its a great idea. I look forward not having to worry about nothing but beer and food when it comes to tailgating. Let these guys worry about all the "heavy" stuff.

wet diaper? If I have one, I sure as hell want to know what it is.

I guess if you view that area as some sort of damn holy grail, then I am quite sure you don't think we are THAT desperite for money. But, it isn't some damn tribal burial ground to me and probably isn't to most people.

Did you get that pissed of when the kids of the dead lifetime seat owners at the hump got tossed from the seats they had for 30 years? I gotta tell you that **** sure seems a lot more sacred to me than some tailgating area that was manufactured from the infamous malfunction junction but a few short years ago. Hell, the damn intersection was actually pretty important to me. But, I figured -- what the hell? It's progress.

Like I said, balancing you "don't tread on my favorite freebe benefits" folks with the need to raise money for the University must be a real thankless task. I don't know how they deal with all this ****.

do you mean the spots underneath the oak trees in the lawn in front of Lloyd Ricks? We have been there for 8 years. I don't know what this 4 year crap is, some people have been there for over 20 years. It won't be pretty when they attempt this.

First off nobody has payed or worked out a deal with the school for "PRIME REAL ESTATE" in the junction. Second off you say in your first line that you pay students to set up your tailgate. This is the same thing that State fans are doing, buy paying this company to setup their tailgate. This is not that big of a deal. Plus I bet if you payed them next year they would be happy to put you in your "PRIME REAL ESTATE" spot in the Junction. The way everyone on here has been acting is hilarious. No wonder the rest of the world thinks Mississippi is nothing but a bunch of rednecks. Grow up people it not the end of the world.

what he is obviously mad about is where he says they are getting HIS spot. Not that it is hurting fans..but Hurting him. Welcome to capitalism. Suppose you were a company that did this, and you came and asked for permission to sell your services on campus. The deal is you give a percentage back to the athletic department and what you ask for is a highly visible area to show off your business. Same thing used to happen out in Left Field Lounge, (maybe it still does) but I remember Penn's having a truck out there...taking up space.

I did not know anyone had a spot in the Junction that they owned. Must have missed that one, where do you go to buy your "PRIME REAL ESTATE"?

group of guys got together, split however many ways, and we paid a $150 bucks for an entire season for 2 big screen TVs, 2 tents, and some sort of college football package on Direct TV......considering I would rather sit in the grove sipping on a toddy (no pun intended) than sitting in VH listening to all the mississippi homers, I think it is money well spent for the 3 games I will spend there....
