Byrne has set aside a portion of what is arguably the best piece of real estate in the junction for a company that sets up tents. This is not the MSU tent rental section on the amphitheatre side of the road. This is in the heart of the junction where the players step off the buses. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not? If it is, then Byrne has become the next Larry Templeton. I don't think we need the money this damn bad. Not with an ESPN contract that should provide an additional TEN MILLION DOLLARS. There are somethings you just don't <17> with and this is one of them.

Did you just say that because Byrne is being creative and seeking more revenue stream he is becoming the next Larry Templeton? We are finally acting like we belong in the SEC. Alabama, Auburn and others have been doing this for years. As far as the extra TEN MILLION DOLLARS, it doesn't help us move forward one step because everyone in the rest of the SEC gets that money as well.

The most prized area in the Junction is being leased out for profit. This area is for the fans to set up their tents. If we are going to do this, then let's just take 1/3 of left field lounge and get a tent rental company to sub it out for a few thousand dollars. Hell NO. This is a bunch of crap. I'm sorry you don't see things the way I do, but there are somethings you don't mess with.

If I recall, I'm pretty sure I heard about Alabama doing basically this same thing with a portion of the Quad. They have a company that sets up tents with flat screens and everything needed, and the school gets a good portion of that revenue.

In the Quad though I don't think it's necessarily the most prime real estate, and from what I remember, the Quad is big enough and not in such high demand that the space is in high demand, so I can't speak to that.

If you are all about making a profit 615dawg, why don't we do away with student tickets for the basketball games and sell them to the Bulldog club. That would generate more money. At some point it's not about the DOLLAR$, it's about the fans.

Is getting the most prized portion of the junction. I'm not against a tent rental company coming in and making money. Just not in this area. This is for the fans. Put this company up the road by McCool, but not in front of the stadium.

I want to know if there is any truth to rumor. My source is a student who tailgates with my group and sets up our tent. He says that this company is getting the spot where we tailgate. It is going to be where the buses stop. To me this is the heart of the junction.

Was there some survey awarding a specific area of the Junction? I must have missed that.

Seriously, it is pretty hard to complain about any patch of grass in the Junction. The entire thing is basically on top of the stadium. In my opinion, there isnt a better situated tailgating area in the SEC. I am not taking anything away from the Grove, reb lurkers - I am only talking about the proximity to the stadium.

10 million is more significant impact to us than UF or UT , Arky ..etc

20 dollars to a po' man is alot more than 20 dollars to a rich man.

not sayin we're poor, and yeah I realize it's 10 million ..

It's a foot race to get to some of the spots. And I think its wrong to just set aside the best spots to a private company.

It must be absolutely dizzying to balance the "keep it the way it was in 1948" crowd with the "we need more money" crowd. Qutie frankly, I can't see how they put up with it. But, we DO need the money that bad. We are woefully behind other SEC schools in Athletic budgets. I have no idea if your rumor is true. But, welcome to SEC football. Everything is for sale -- parking, seats, tailgate spots, and anythign else they can think of. Yeah, maybe it would be better if college athletics weren't so money driven. But, MSU isn't going to turn the attitude of the country on that one. We can either join in or be left behind.

We could expand the stadium and put chairbacks in our outfield. Bryan could have a hot dog open air cafe. We would make more money, but I don't think that would go over very well.

You are missing my point. It's not that I don't want them to have a private tent renting company making money. It's where they are renting the spots. That area is for the fans. Just like left field lounge. Just like student seating in the Hump.

the ENTIRE quad is basically a "pay lot." you have to pay to tailgate their. can't remember how much a year, but it generates some revenue.. i'd pay a couple hundred bucks to tailgate in the junction. all it does is generate some dolla bills.

Left Field Lounge - A spot that is a prime location during the event itself. Allows fans to watch the Bulldogs play, to socialize, and to have a good time. Spots are included in owner's estate planning. Hallowed tradition for 50 years.

The Junction - Great tailgating area, lot's of space. Allows fans to watch the Bulldogs get off a bus, to socialize, and to have a good time before and after the game. Spots are allocated based on who can be there at 5:00 PM the day before the game. Tradition for 4 years.

So, yeah, it's a little bit of a difference. Besides, I thought the prime spot was close, but not too close to the Junction John, and in the middle of the hot bitches. I can walk over and watch the players get off the bus, if I was so inclined.

I appreciate your outrage, I just don't understand it.

It's coming. So, you might as well go ahead and blow your stack about that, too. It will take the edge off when it actually occurs.

I posted this up above. The left field lounge deal is coming, although probably not as you describe. First, spots in the left field lounge are indeed sold. I hope you do know that. They just aren't sold for enough money. But, you can bet your *** that will change soon. Do I think it will change the character of that area? Not much. I think most people know they are getting one hell of a deal out there and will just shell out more money to stay out there.

So, how would I feel if they did this to left field lounge? Uh, pretty good, actually.

Is this not the business that sets up tailgates for fans to use? I'm trying it out this year with my normal tailgate group. Hopefully, it works out well. I'll give a review after the weekend. I was curious as to whether that business has some sort of qn agreement with MSU. Guess this answers that question. At least it's not merchandise sales or credit card promotions. If it's the fact that some people pay money to reserve a spot and have it set up vs the old fashioned way, then I guess you will remain pissed. It was bound to happen; I believe this may be becoming common at many SEC schools now.

dental dawg, what youre talking about is true. a company called southern tradition tailgating is setting up at least 20 tents for people. i know this because i have some friends who signed up for it and they were number 20. it costs $2,000 for your tailgate to be set up all season. here is a link.

im sure its the same business. i dont know much about their partnership with MSU or any of the other schools they set up tailgates at, but it sounds like this is catching on because just about every school around the SEC is doing it.

i dont know how they arrange where they are gonna set up the tailgates. as mentioned earlier, i think they have a general portion of the junction allotted for their tents. not sure if they will set up your tailgate at the spot you have always used or not.

Unfortunately, none of you share my view. In the future, we will all just rent a tent from this company or MSU. If we refuse to rent or can't afford to rent (like most students) then we can do our tailgating at South Farm with the cows. By the way, do they still have those cows out there with the plexy glass windows on their sides. So that you can watch the digestive process.

In fact, the "tradition" vs. "get more money" is usually pretty hotly debated on the board. I will say that the junction probably doesn't spur as lively a debate as other traditions, mostly because the junction isn't a tradition for most alumni.

Since the beginning of the Junction, you could pay the university to set up the tent in exactly the same spots. Now you're paying a 3rd party. My guess is it is cheaper to outsource it than to use existing staff. Nothing new about that.

As ol' Mike Justice said back in his heydays at Madison Central: "It's gonna cost you to go but it don't cost but just a little more to go First Class."

I'm pretty sure my friend who got our group together said it's right in the middle of the Junction kinda by the Chrismahanukwanzakah Tree. Perfect spot.

I'm mostly with you. Especially about this part. If I remember correctly the Junction is a result of the Student Association's ideas and work. Now, just a few years later, the students are being priced out of certain parts of the Junction. And I assume everyone assumes like I do that as time passes, more and more spots will be reserved for this. So, eventually students will be completely priced out of something they created. I think that's ********.

Absolutely nothing has changed other than who the check is made out to?

Well that is certainly worth over reacting and throwing a ****** fit over. Nicely done, Dental.

I was unaware that the University would set up your tailgate with a TV, Dish, etc. for $2000 per year on Dental's spot he has been tailgating in for 7 generations.

This is really not as big of a deal as you make it. It's really just like paying a company to do all the work and then enjoying tailgating without having to worry about setting up a tent. Setting up a tent can be a ***** sometimes. I also tailgate in about the same spot that you do and I dont have a problem with setting up some extra tents there.

Let me add that I'm sure there will be PLENTY of room for your tent in the junction. If Byrne wants to put more pretty southern belles in front of my face, I'm all for it whether they pay for the spot of not. If it is that big of a deal then complain after the first game. I'm sure if you have a problem with it after Saturday then at least 100 more people will also.</p>
