This is why it drives me nuts when kids make a RIGHT NOW decision about transferring as though injuries never happen and being #2 or #3 is a death sentence. How many OL and how many WR has Nebraska had to rotate in now, and it's only 7 games in.

more than likely the center that transferred to CSU would be starting at either center or guard right now.

Absolutely. He would have been in the discussion at LG immediately and would have been rotating in heavily by now any way you slice it.

Hahn did slide inside from tackle, per his bio. Having more options inside would have allowed us to play him outside. It seems Barnett, Decker and Gaylord are not ready to play. Gaylord is behind Conrad, who isn't a go vs. the two gimped up starters unless absolutely necessary (Conrad is #2 at both LT and RT). Barnett is a mountain of a young man, but apparently cannot give us some snaps to allow Hahn to spell one of the guys at tackle.
It's late in the season and the train is moving. The coaches are probably running as fast as they can just to get a line prepped for the games. It's apparent that they've made the decision that the experienced and prepped walking wounded at tackle is a better option than playing one of the RS frosh consistently. I do not think any of us know enough to say whether that is the best decision, so we have to trust the coaches. Sam and Utter are gone next year. We get Foster back, but we are going to need a center.

We are missing quality depth. Our offensive line, when healthy, was serviceable ... i.e. average. Langs is going to have to manufacture yards and points with a below average offensive line

I kind of thought Thurston should have been playing too, maybe I am wrong though but it seemed like he was pretty good.

I hope that sticking with redshirts doesn't come back to hurt the team this year. At this point, with being 7-0 and a chance to make the Big 10 Championship game and possibly the playoff, do you burn them if needed?

For some reason that reminded me of the pilot introductions scene from Airplane II. He should've been playing over Utter, but under Dunn, and I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

You guys bring up a good point about Thurston, I had forgot about him. There are several players that left that would be a big help right now.

There has to be more to the story. I have to think that Thurston must have had some type of attitude issue. Cav seems like a pretty likeable albeit gruff guy. Maybe their personalities just didn't mix well together but man Thurston gave up a great opportunity. I suspect he may be having regrets about now.....or maybe not.Smokin He did transfer to CSU.

There are always multiple sides and perspectives. We also don't know how Thurston practiced. But you can't deny how he outplayed Utter at Center and or Guard anytime he got on the field.

You are right on; newspaper and sportswriters commented on his Ucla performance and year end contributions if I recall correctly

Absolutely he outplayed them from what I saw. The fact that he should have been starting the past 2 seasons probably gnawed at him but hey if you don't show it in practice it's tough to win a job. The fact that the previous staff didn't see it either may be telling. I thought he played the best of any center we've had for a while against UCLA.

You can be a brilliant position coach / teacher - but not a "global" thinker. HCMR and associated; seem to have had some talks in regards to o-line coaching and philosophy.
