Playing NW actually brings some national media attention with is.... in that Mike Wilbon and Mike Greenberg are going to be talking about the game from now until we play it. Losing to them would guarantee us being mentioned and poked fun at in the national media.

The last thing we need is to have to rely on Nickoe or Broomfield for

over the top safety help against a team with some top notch WR targest. If they don't have any superstars at wideout and we can get away with Banks and Slay playing man coverage and allowing Nickoe to play run support that will play into our hands. I also really want to believe our defensive ends have their worst performances of the year behind them, and our defense as a whole. I guess we'll find out.

It's exactly the kind of matchup we need if they run a spread type like aTm, OM etc....that's what it's all about..to prove we (Wilson) can stop it..if he can't then he needs to be gone.

The Big 10 was only allowed to play one Bowl game per season, the Rose Bowl, until about 1976 or so. So if you did not get in the Rose Bowl, you did not play.

I don't want MSU to lose ever- even if it means change for the better. But I don't want us to do so well that we decide that keeping Chris might not be a bad idea.

If you can't stop a damn Big Ten team and you're a SEC team- you better be looking for a new DC.

Kind of like when Croom beat Central Florida 10-3.

Still...why unload him right now and risk a recruiting backlash? Let's at least get past JUCO signing day and get Za'Darius in the boat, if not national signing day. I don't see any real rush at this point, unless you had a new guy ready to come in and start installing a new scheme immediately, prior to the bowl game(which is a recipe for disaster IMO).

I think we just need to let this play out. Dan will do what is best for the program, and he will do it on the best timeframe he can. What we need to do is worry about raising $$ for assistant coaches. Disgraceful that it isn't better than we are currently providing.

Tough call on losing not being so bad because Wilson goes (maybe...). Logic says win the game because getting ragdolled by a Big 10 team down on national TV doesn't do much for recruiting either. And finishing one game ahead of the Bears won't help with those recruits still considering both.

I just went to a couple NU message boards and read awhile. The overwhelming majority were not so dismissive of Mississippi State. The worst was from a Gamecock fan that said MS is the armpit of the south. There was one thread asking for info about State and a State fan posted. His post was full of poor grammar and terrible spelling with things such as lost in place of loss etc.. Not one word was said about his use of the English language. I found that refreshing since my own written word is sometimes lacking. The State poster gave some insightful info and it was treated as such. Refreshing.

There were some that felt slighted by the Big Ten conferences promotion of Nebraska for the better bowl and most did feel that they should beat us and that they had to win this game. NU had some decent wins over Vandy, Mich State and Syracuse so they aren 't chopped liver and it would be a nice bowl win for State.

If you want something to get pissed off about, they are there but I didn't get the vibe that everyone felt that way. Actually, I felt there were more calling them out for not treating us with respect than the opposite. There was a good bit about our 4 SEC wins with a combined record of 3-29 against SEC opponents and how the SEC bottom was historically bad this year. So:

What team have you been watching all year? We will play zone with the corners 10 yards off of the wideouts and give them all they want underneath while giving them 7 ypc on the run as well.

Either if I was Dan. We need someone to coach the defense in the Gator Bowl and a bad DC is better than none. I was talking about keeping him long term (past Feb.) rather than firing him today.

I was thinking more like Ole Miss keeping Tyrone Nix for 2011 after they lost to Jacksonville State basically for recruiting purposes.

You know that most coaches during preparation for minor bowls, spend most of their time recruiting. I'll probably spend more time preparing to defend Northwestern than Coach Wilson does. Remember the last time we prepared? We stomped the crap out of Meatchicken, and then had 3 of our top recruits bought out from under us. Mullen won't let that happen again.
