lots of Franklin too. I 24 and 40 are shut down in several spots. 40K+ are without power. 8 confirmed dead so far. It's really the craziest thing I've ever seen. A good fried of mine (State grad) - his house is under water off White Bridge Road. Thoughts and prayers need to go out to a bunch of folks around these parts for sure.

I haven't been able to get in touch with the renters, but I haven't heard that area was too damaged either.

this is the most rain I've ever seen in my life, it's like a monsoon. Supposed to keep raining the rest of today too, and they are talking about having to sandbag downtown to keep the river from flowing into downtown.....crazy

a monsoon isn't rains, it's a seasonal shifting of the winds. Rain is a possible by-product of the monsoon winds.

Regardless, the mid-deep south has had it rough the last two weeks.. 'nadoes, flooding, winds, oil spills...

I believe I also know said White Bridge resident. I will likely head to Nashville from Starkville this coming weekend to see if I can help out.

Webster's say...

Main Entry: mon·soon
Pronunciation: \män-?sün, ?män-?\
Function: noun
Etymology: obsolete Dutch monssoen, from Portuguese monção, from Arabic mawsim time, season
Date: 1584
1 : a periodic wind especially in the Indian Ocean and southern Asia
2 : the season of the southwest monsoon in India and adjacent areas that is characterized by very heavy rainfall
3 : rainfall that is associated with the monsoon

Heavy rains are associated with monsoons. Go be smart somewhere else.

I'm in Nolensville on top of a hill more or less. Still, Nolensville Road was flooded yesterday when I made a quick Dollar General run for a battery so I wonder if I'll be able to go into work tomorrow. It'd be such a travesty if I couldn't make it in.

Have a couple of sump pumps working on it and the rain let up about four hours ago, so I'm a lot better off than many folks around here.

after you get the bulk of the water out, use that stuff to make sure you don't get mold anywhere down there. **** is magical.

sucks ***. and way too far for me to go to do labor for them so i guess we will be waiting to see what they need. fortunately they got their vehicles out and had a little time to put some things in the attic but the last time they left the house it was waist deep.

from one of my friends about whether my belongings, all of which are in storage in Hendersonville, are OK. I did get reports of fish swimming across Main St there... Otherwise, I am perversely safe here in Iraq. We do have one guy in my unit who lost everything he owned, though...

they had to evacuate 1500+ people from there last night. The Cumberland River is expected to rise another foot before it finally crests and if it does, a lot of the bars from 2nd Ave, east will be screwed. Tootsies should be fine (I think) since it's closer to 3rd Ave. They said on the news last night that this is the wettest May ever recorded and 5th wettest month ever in Nashville and it's only been 2 days into the month. Freaking nuts around these parts right now.

4+ years studying meteorology at State and NWS say:

Monsoon

A thermally driven wind arising from
differential heating between a land mass and the adjacent ocean that
reverses its direction seasonally.

Not trying to be a jerk. And I don't mind the moniker, isn't the first time I've been labeled that.
