just curious, if anyone's memory recalls, why Coach Kirby...

I thought it was something to do with getting a coach that wasn’t connected to AAU basketball. That was one reason I heard for hiring Rick Ray

I’m not sure he could have been worse than what we wound up with.
Yeah well hindsight is 20/20 but when you put both resumes on the table and objectively evaluate, ray was the better option.

in hindsight, maybe we should have picked Kirby but we didn’t have the benefit of hindsight at the time.

I think you are right. Kirby kept pretty tight control of the team. He left because Stansbury was seriously considering the Clemson HC job. Stansbury had one foot out the door but decided at the last minute to stay for family reasons. In hindsight I'm sure Stansbury wished he had taken the job. He hired Grant to replace Kirby. Grant had a more confrontational personality which I believe rubbed off on the players and lead to the fight.

You can 100% blame the fight and $h1t show on Stan’s. His team. They were always not very disciplined. And I’m referring to on court discipline for a lot of that.

Well, ultimately Stansbury was the coach so he had the responsibility. Grant was with the team when the fight broke out. I assume Stan's was with his family. He hired Grant so you are right. Bad decisions by Stansbury.

Fat 17 Renardo had already been suspended the day before at a practice.

100% on Stan’s and grant deserves zero blame.

He left Grant in charge of the team that afternoon. Grant owns part of the blame unless you believe he is an invalid incapable of owning responsibility for any of his actions. He was within earshot of the incident. Why didn't he separate them when the discussion got loud? If Stansbury suspended Sidney why didn't Grant have him sitting with him so he could control him? Was he scared of them? They were bigger than Grant so maybe this was the reason.

You can simp all you want. Stan’s brought in that fat no talented loser. Stan’s babied that fat no talented loser. Stan’s enabled that fat no talented loser.

im guessing grant didnt think a grown man would act like fat little b1tch in the stands at a basketball game.

Stan’s did this. Not grant.

Stan's had a booster that paid that "fat no talent loser" and he had to placate that booster if he wanted talent in the future. Stan's lost his job because of Sidney so you should be happy. Of course Grant did too so Grant helped that situation along.

Stans can look in the mirror and blame Stan’s. He was responsible for every single decision that was made. Every one of them.

Was Ray the better option on paper? I would have thought they were identical on paper. Both assistants for mid tier P5 programs. I assume Kirby would have looked a lot better for recruiting purposes.

As far as I can recall, his name was never even mentioned as a possibility from anyone connected with the program in any way, which tells me that people involved with the program for whatever reason were sure he wasn't head coach material. No clue why that is, but we reached pretty hard for Ray, so they must have believed it strongly.

If you have to have an assistant coach babysit your players in the stands, you don't create that culture in the afternoon that Grant was in charge. Maybe Stansbury would have been better served by hiring a different assistant, but you can't blame that culture on the assistasnt. That was all on Stansbury.

And no on has ever even considered him as a legit candidate for a head coach at even a smaller program. I’m not talking like blue
Mountain college small.

I’m sure he regrets letting the inmates run the asylum for a couple of years but I bet his ego gets in the way of that.
You mean Sidney. I don't remember anyone else on the team causing problems. He should have known Grant was too weak to control Sidney. It never would have happened if Kirby or Stan's would have been there.

Hahaha you are a moron.

Sidney was never in control with or without Stan’s there. Stan’s had zero control. None.

You must be Marcus Grant based on your responses! When did Sidney fight when Stan's was coaching? I saw him cop an attitude but never fight. Stan's went out of his way to help the sick kid out. Your hatred for Stansbury is palpable. Guess he tweaked your nose art some point.

That dude had all the talent in the world. He had no discipline and no sense. He was treated like a star since 8th grade and didn’t have to work for anything. His daddy and the shoe companies made sure and let him know he was a star at every opportunity.

He could have easily been a 15/10 guy and drop the occasional 25-30 point game if he had ever been in shape and actually gave a crap about being at MSU.

It was dumb to ever go after him. We already knew he was damaged goods and grossly overweight. We were never going to get the McDonalds AA version of Renardo. He was already ruined by the time he left Piney Woods for Cali. When SC wanted nothing to do with him, we should have gotten the picture but nope.

Agreed on pretty much everything but I’m gonna call him a no talent b1ch bc he doesn’t deserve the respect of saying he was talented.

You must be Stan’s autistic child.

he got suspended the day before at a practice you dumb 17. We already talked about that.

Did Marcus grant bang your wife? Or you without any lube?

I don’t give a damn about Marcus grant really but pretending the Sidney issue was anyone’s fault but Stan’s is incredibly ignorant.

Hahaha, it is OK Marcus. You are forgiven for not controlling the situation.
