Just found out something about BDC rank

They don't calculate based on the pledge amount ... they use the actual amount paid to date. I thought, or assumed, it was the pledge amount.

I do my pledge in 12 equal payments on my credit card, and my rank is currently 1188.

Had I chose to make a lump sum payment, and I would have done that had I known, my rank would be 1026.

I should have used the darn calculator.

The FAQs for the reseating say the opposite which is strange

There are 5 categories.


Annual Level: 0.012 points / $ pledged for the current year (not paid)
Lifetime: 0.008 points / $ paid (any payment towards this years pledge goes here as well)
Consecutive years: 1 point per year up to 10 years, then it increases 0.5 points every 10 years
Season tickets: 1 point per season ticket purchased (basketball & baseball)
Bowl tickets: bonus points for Gator, Music City, and Liberty Bowls

Go to your DogTag, click the "where could I be" link, and it will show the amount pledged, and the amount paid toward that pledge. You can change it to see where you would be, so I changed the amount paid to the amount I pledged, and my ranking got better by 154, from 1180 to 1026. That puts me in the 90.1 percentile, or the top 10% of the BDC.

I may try to call them to see which way it is ... apparently from what you (kired and Bdog) say, it's the way I thought it was. If so, I got shafted once again. But I would think it's automated, so there are probably many others in the same boat as I am. Or maybe I'll email given the high level of activity they have right now.

The point estimator is incorrect. I prepaid my 2014 donation prior to the reseating deadline but it did not add points through current year giving, only through lifetime giving component. The current year component is based on pledge regardless of how much you have paid. If I had known I would have made payments like I usually do.

It may well be incorrect, but when I did the "what if" and changed the "paid" amount to my full pledge amount, my priority ranking improved to what it was this time last year, which is where I think it should be this year. I've never been as low as I am now, and that's with increasing my pledge by about 10% this year.

I just emailed the BDC about it, but I suspect it'll be quite some time before I hear from them, given the level of activity going on in that office now.

When you pledge you get credit for the pledge... When you pay your pledge you get credit for the pledge AND lifetime giving. That's why the calculator shows a difference. You get additional points for moneys paid.

You will be seated at what your rank is on March 1st. When you make your April payment, your BDC club points will increase by not count towards reseating.
