Just read the "where's Ronny and Blew" thread, and something D@A posted got me to thinking

Read the thread that DawgatAuburn includedabout Cohen last year, and tell me what is the difference in what Stans has done this year as far as "coaching " is concerned that is pointed out by Brainthedawg. Some people on this board wanted Cohen to be canned in his first year if we played like we did against a top 5 program in Georgia last year. Brian pointed out that he is a Cohen supporter, but that some base running and keeping a pitcher in too long is coaching. (Not going after Brian just using him as example) When some us do the same with Stans we are called "Stans Haters". My point is this, if you are going to criticize a first year coach that is playingwith someone else's ******** players, then you sure in the hell should criticize Stans for what he has done with this team this year.

We are not going to make the tourney unless we win out, and probably win a game in the SEC tourney. It comes back to ****** losses to our ****** OOC teams, and some poor losses to Bama and Arky. Playing with intensity, knowing when to call to's, coming out of to's with good set plays, offensive discipline, etc... No one said "Cohen should fire some of his assistants, fire him". The Stans Haters say if you are not going to fire Stans (doesn't deserve it), then he should at least clean house on that stale *** staff that not even the SWAC wants. Everybody was happy with the Dan Mullen hire, and thinks that hiring a young assistant from a great program was a great move, but no onethinks we can take that same philosphy and apply it to our basketball program, wtf??? Our basketball facilities will be able to compete with anyone in the SEC, but not our football facilities by a large margin. Coach is right, this conference is like the Big 12 in football, one division (East) is loaded for bear, and the other (West) is loaded with bear ****. Better win tonight or all hell is going to break out tonight.
Go dawgs.

Here's another hint wiseass, Cohen has only been here a year with HIS freshmen and Juco transfers and we will be an improved team. RS can't get his players to set a ballscreen correctly much less have the discipline to run a true offense instead of 2 passes and jack it, oh I forgot that is Stans' offense. One more thing, please tell me that you are not really a Falcons fan.

Your post answers your original question.

The difference between the treatment of "cohen haters" and "stans haters" (and I personally like both coaches) is that the cohen haters at least contain their **** to limited number of threads and don't turn threads about other stuff into their personal soapbox... They also don't bash Cohen personally and typically wait until we actually lose to run all their smack and don't gloat over losses like you and your cronies do..

I realize Stans has some things that need major improvement...and we used to discuss them on this board rationally...it is impossible now.

the end.

I, by no means, think Stansbury can do no wrong. With the success he's had, I think he has earned a longer leash than most on here want to give him though. I'm not complacent with winning the West and just going to the NIT, as we all want to go to the Sweet 16 and further (except for C34 maybe). I just think the man is a damn good fit for us. He recruits pretty well and yes, his offense (or lack thereof) sucks. That is no secret. He is a good defensive and rebounding coach though, so I kind of think that makes up for it. HighPointDawg hit it on the head - we used to be able to discuss things rationally during basketball season and now it is simply impossible to do. Cohen is going to do great things here, but last year, our base running was absolutely atrocious. Just like our offense in basketball this year. The thing is, when we lose or are losing in basketball, it is never the players' fault. It's always on Stans. Yet when we win, it was in spite of Stans. It is quite comical actually. I'm not going to support a coach simply because he is MState's coach, like KB21 or something, but I have a bad feeling we will run off one of the most successful coaches ever to coach at State and then suck for a long time to come (which is typically how that kind of **** works). Unless we know for certain we are getting an upgrade, there's just no way I'm firing him for an unproven mid major coach.

to hire a good young coach. One of the reasons is Rick Stansbury, and High you did admit that RS has his faults. He just needs to hire some fresh blood on the bench. Perfect example was tonight at the 31 second point in the first half, he called a to and we came back out did nothing as far as attacking the zone. Just passed it around got it to Jarvis for a 12 foot jumper, not his game. By the way, I am glad we are winning with 2:58 remaining, just hope we don't blow it.

yet you turned it into another thread where you can talk about how terrible you think he is.

You asked a question.. why is a certain group of posters hated on this board and why another not as much.. we tried to answer it. I hope as baseball season gets underway, and we don't go undefeated, that we don't have to deal with literally 1,000's of threads on how bad people hate Cohen.

(and on the 31 second play... I agree... looked bad.. Grant did a good job of switching to zone during the T.O. since they were in man during that entire possession before the 3 offensive rebounds and the T.O... it obviously blew up whatever play we called and we didn't adjust. We did get a shot off at least, which doesn't always happen for us in those possessions)

A ball screen at the top of the key to draw the other top of the key 2-3 defender normally leaves us a wide open 3 on the wing, which we did and have done pretty consistently against the 2-3.

Also, Bama switched from a 2-3 to man w/ 10 seconds left in the first half, which is why we went down low to Varnado for a one on one situation.
