Just so I'm clear on the vast media conspiracy...

Speck and Talty are both closet Rebels working to engineer a public misinformation campaign that Jones is being scorned by malevolent State fans for looking at Ole Miss?

Even though Talty went to Maryland (I think)?

And also, dating someone from a particular university makes you biased towards said institution?

Subquestion - and if the last statement is true (per this board it seems to be gospel), that would somehow not apply to the CL sports editor, whose in-laws are MSU?

Just checking so I can sort all this out.

Also, is this part of a bigger pro-Ole Miss conspiracy of generous, positive pieces by Hugh (even though he's originally from North Carolina) and anti-MSU work by Brandon (who went to Arkansas?) Plus inside jobs from Ole Miss alums like Veazey and Locke and myself?

I'm trying to keep all the players straight here. I don't want to miss anything.

It's very simple. Ole Miss alums seem to love the recruiting show more than others. Therefore, the media is going to cater to that (more money to be made).

Whether or not any of it influences recruits in a positive or negative way, remains to be seen. It's no conspiracy towards a school, it's more that Ole Miss fans are better for the crootin business.

Everything that goes along with how newspapers and media outlets make money in this day and age. Hits to blogs and websites equals more advertisements/subscriptions blah blah blah. Don't pretend to be an idiot.

So can you point me to particular items where the CL has done this? How they've created stories to generate money?

And here I was thinking you were a credible journalist...

I can't speak to everything in your post because I don't have inside knowledge on everything you mentioned. I will say this:

Speck is not a closet rebel. If you look at his facebook page you will see that he is not hiding the fact that he is an Ole Miss fan (in the closet would mean he is kinda keeping it secret). He has pictures of his whole family dressed up at games with Colonel Reb, etc.

Rusty Hampton is definitely an Ole Miss fan. He told me that from his own mouth. I've known him for over 20 years. I'm not saying he is biased in his work, just saying that he does prefer one school over the other.

I had a 1967 International Scout in high school. My grandfather put grey astroturf on the floors of the entire truck. This thing was basically indestructible. It was a cold SOB in the winter though. The only thing I never did was remove the hard top for the summer. I still wish we had taken the time to do it. Too bad my uncle ended up selling it for next to nothing a few years back.

Anyone else have a nice antique ride? I'd like to eventually get another one and fix it up.

Last: I bet McDawg22 can remember the name of the Scout and where that name came from. Maybe HD6 too.

well they now cover recruiting....

Which is a huge change from their previous coverage from Rod Walker. They ate trying to get a piece of the recruiting pie. So they obviously are chasing revenue, which is good business.

Now the question I have for you, do you think the local sports media is objective? Of so I've been given control of a fortune from a Nigerian Prince and all I need is your bank account number. Don't worry his last name is not Nkemdiche.

You can't honestly say Speck's stuff is not slanted toward ole miss fans. Talty to me does not seem slanted.

I do not think there is a conspiracy. Present company excluded, of course, I just believe that most sports writers are lazy (and underpaid). It takes a lot of work to keep up with recruiting -- moreso than what the job would normally entail. Consequently, instead of tracking down all these crazy leads and calling these players every day, they just re-tweet or re-tread what they have read somewhere else. Specifically, I think Talty is just new and caught up in getting "fed" information from his so-called sources. I think he will be good eventually, but right now he is having trouble being unbiased -- not because he is biased toward Ole Miss, but because he is being biased toward his sources. He wants to make them happy. I do not know who his sources are -- that is just how I read his stuff. There is not much backbone or independent thinking there. I think Marcello believes recruiting is "beneath him." That is why he makes snide remarks about recruiting news on his tweets, e.g., "crootin'." He re-tweets what he reads just so he can tell his bosses he is on top of it, when I do not think he really cares. Speck is just a hack -- horrible writer, horrible reporter -- I am not saying he is biased either. He is just bad. Locke is just lazy.

They were both in the Library this weekend partying off the clock. If that isn't enough to "call to question" their slant, what is? Be sure to let me know when they make it to Starkville for a weekend on their own dime**
