One thing that I didnt remember was how weak of an arm Ed McMichael had. All his throws downfield were wobbly and underthrown. Our D was amazing that day considering they were up against the best team in the country. And our O line opened some great holes for our RBs

Did Tim Odell catch it yet? Watched that endzone crossing Route from exactly the opposite endzone and what a shame. Reminded me of that OT loss to WVU with several endzone TD misses..by a hair.

McMichael was playing with, basically, one leg... couldn't get leverage on his throws.. couldn't dig in. That is, IIRC.

Some typical self-hating bastard mocked me for wanting to go to the game and I goaded him to give me the 30 points he'd said we'd lose by... and then he welched (no offense intended toward the Welsh.. I think he was of Dutch extraction.. any offense to the Dutch was done by him). Total douche.

I did lose my voice at that game as did many others.

ABC Sports guy Warner Wolfe led with the typical back-handed compliment... "If Alabama is number one.. what's Rutgers.. one and a half?!"

The thing I recall the most about that game is how our defense shut down their wishbone offense. Made them throw the ball to win. Oh yeah, and we were so wiped out we lost to William and Mary the following week.

I remember from where I was sitting it looked like Kenny Smith was going to take the punt to the house.

Alabama came into the game with the #1 Defense in the country. Rutgers was #2.

The Tide went 10-2, finishing 9th in the AP Poll. Only 2 teams (Ole Miss and Auburn) scored more points against them than RU and only 2 held them to less points (Miss St and ND) than RU did.

The next day on NFL Today Brent Musburger and Jimmy the Greek did their weekly college Top 5. They rated Bama #1 and Brent said if Bama was their #1 then Rutgers was their #1A.

Amazing we could be from extreme positions yet not. You'll always be welcome at my tailgates regardless. 'Rutgers College 1984" Flag ( blue, Green. Scarlet lots)

1a is a compliment if you ask me

what's a Rutgers lol
Wen you're talking about being that high for even a week I'd say so.

Tennessee learned what a great D looks like on that day. Moving Ed Steward (2 Int) to MLB, even if it was due to injuries, was a stroke of genius by Flinging Frank and Ted Cottrell.
