In recent light of the possibility that we could wear the Snowbowl unis for the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day, I think it's time to just play some football. I know this has been said before, and despite the fact that I love that our marketing department is alive and trying their very hardest to draw national attention to the university, it is time to just wear some plain uniforms and play some football.

Our team is soft; defense has no strenth or strong-suit and I hate to say it but Northwestern is going to win unless we get back to the Bulldog Creed. I don't see that happening anytime soon though.

I just want to see our team not give up and play football. No gimmicks. Nothing special about the game or our team or anything. Just football. How can we do that?

(Before some of you get your panties in a wad, I understand that we won 8 games and lost to decent teams and our rival, but the way we lost and our overall performance was embarrassing to the team and the university. It appears that "I will give relentless effort" has been left behind for #HailState)

Do you really believe our uniforms or billboards had anything to do with our performance? We could have been wearing any uniform when we played A&M and they still would have killed us. You guys are way over playing this who "gimmic" thing. Marketing has nothing to do with our on field performance. In fact, I'd say its just the opposite.

The only reason I see pantie wadding happening is because this exact thread has been repeated over and over and over and over aND oVER AND OVER aGAIN.

We get it... Some people hate the unis and hashtags. Thank you for starting another thread.

What was Bama's excuse for losing to aTm? They were wearing the same **** they always do. Jerseys have nothing to do with performance. Yours is just a visceral reaction to losing. "If we spent more time on football than those goddamn uniforms . . . " The team and coaches don't sew the new 17ing uniforms before the games. It's not taking away from football. I seriously 17ing doubt any of our coaches really give a **** what the team will be wearing. They're not sitting around, taking time away from football to plan our fashion. If it gets us national attention and helps with recruiting, I'm all for it.

This reminds me of the scene from The Jerk where Steve Martin is being shot at and he screams "It's these cans! He hates these cans!" During the aTm game were you screaming "It's the uniforms! Johnny football hates the uniforms!!"

Not to mention the special black unis didn't seem to slow the Aggies down.

You are welcome. I just hope someone at the athletic department sees it and passes it along to Dan. I'm cool with the unis/hashtags and **** when we do well. When we don't, and when we do it too much, like this year, it looks like a cry for attention - which it is. I understand doing a couple things here and there to spice up a season but I don't feel that every game has to have some special meaning. It is great for PR but if you lose the games that these gimmicks draw attention to I feel like it doesn't help too much.

Again - I just want to see the Bulldog Creed in our performance. I want our players excited to go out and try to prove they are better than everyone they step on the field with.

I may have a bad memory but did we even wear all maroon this year at home?

No, they don't sow them and it shouldn't make three ***** what they wear. But they should be used to wearing a gameday attire, a contemporary "suit of armor" if you will, and playing in a new suit of armor every game doesn't help. Just another perspective.

I like different uniforms. I'm a fan of what Oregon does with theirs, and even Maryland for that matter, but we had those uniforms to commemorate the "Snow Bowl" I thought. I didn't realize that they were just Adidas "Battle" gear or whatever it is they call it, and we would be wearing them more than on that day.

I'm not even sure why you guys made this all about the uniforms.
I asked one question: How can we get back to playing within the motto of the Bulldog Creed? Can anyone help with that?

Let me try to type slow enough for you to understand. Nobody has said we`ve lost because of the ugly unis. They`re saying we look like fools when run out on the field dressed in silly **** designed to attract attention to ourselves and then get our asses stomped. What part of this is so hard to understand ?

And while we are at it I`ll extend to you my standing invitation. Please name a significant recruit that made his decision to go to State because we play dress up with our football dolls errr football team.

I don't like special uniforms either. But wearing the Snow Bowl one has no significance whatsoever to this game, and none to Northwestern. If we're visitors, I don't see anything wrong with wearing it. It's a nice looking uniform. I just didn't like all the hype that preceded the A&M game, and still don't but it's OK in this case.

Special uniforms and "gimmicks" have nothing to do with winning. We should do them AND win, and we shouldn't blame them when we don't.

Plenty of recruits do it without saying it. I hate it every bit as much as you. What Sherrill did with our uniforms and Mullen did in his first year, I absolutely love. Beyond that, I dont give a ****. But the fact is that being willing to change sends another message: that is to say that uptight old 17ing cogers arent still controlling your program. How do you overcome that? Have 29 national championships. short of that, marketing to kids that want to look sharp is a method of getting borderline recruits. We've killed ole miss at this in the past because they constantly prove that they are a university for the old 17ing coger and that is now dying. They are getting innovative in other ways. Our job is to remind kids at every turn that they are the university of the past and let them wallow in it. No matter how many kids they "show the love" they are still a country club for white kids whos parents dont want to pay for private universities or who's kids didnt get accepted to a more prestegious law school. OUR job is to show what we are: that is to say a university for kids who are smart, active, inclusive and have felt exluded from the private school menality.

I think Mullen has done a good job of that but not as good as Sherrill did. He needs to work on it.

I'll try... the same reason we've lost every game since the 2008 SECCG: we had a letdown, we ran into a buzzsaw, the other team caught the breaks/ got TOs/big plays....

yeah, that's pretty much it, I think...

Nope.

Fact is that you caught a team that was better than you that day and they had a player or two to exploit it. Manzel didnt single handedly beat you. Bama's ability to forget that they were invincible did. Your coaches failure to instill in his assistants that they were playing a formitable opponent did. Your defenses failure to rise to the occasion. Your offensive line's failure to remember that DOMINATING, not waiting on the opposing team to be dominated is the key.

Yes, Bama is the cream of the conference this year. But it's loss to atm was mostly it's own undoing. EXCEPT for one fact. The team you were playing is not the one you played all those weeks before.

I didn't mind the "Snow Bowl" uniforms because they were solid white and didn't have the stupid stripes on them.

So you are saying you would have somehow been less embarassed after the TAMU game if our team didn't look like fools in their clown costumes. You don't mind the fact that we looked like fools because we couldn't tackle, cover a receiver, or even look interested in winning. The uniforms made it worse for you as a fan after an *** whipping.

Do you even understand how weird this all sounds?

Grave I can personally assure you that Jackie`s recruiting success didn`t have a damn thing to do with uniforms.

I know that too, but the fans participation in that was due to the fact that he changed our attitudes, our image and nearly everything else about the we way we looked at our football program. Yes, winning made a hell of a difference. But he did something else and Mullen took the baton and ran with it too. A school's fanbase arrogance can go a long way to influencing recruits. Those kids read message boards and listen to conversations. They know when a fanbase expects a school to pay attention to kids needs and when a school is expecting those same kids to bend to their old tired traditions that they think are a thing of the past.

Dont get me wrong. Cheap, dollar store tactics look even worse less than a dollar when we dont have success with them. I agree in spades. I'll give you the best example I can. The all maroon uniform. It looks, even today, to me like the shittiest uniform we've ever worn. all black, all white, pink accesories, you name it. The all maroon is the absolute worst. But I'm a child of the early 70's and 80's. I have my tastes. I realize i have little in common with children of the 90's and 2000's. I'm raising 2 of them and my *** is continually chapped with their preferences in style. But that was true of my father and I and of his. All of us were bulldogs. And such will be.

Best understand, we'll be ugly in style until the style you and I prefer returns. Winning and losing will accentuate that. As for me, there will NEVER be a day the mid 80's uni's are ever good looking. If my dad were alive, he'd say there will never be a day that the early 60s uni's will ever work. And I suppose, there will never be a day that croom's white helmet era will ever be popular with this age group.

But marketing works whether we want to like it's particular flavor or not.

Let's just agree that these recently born 17tards have no taste in style.
