As a coach this is becoming an all to familiar happening. Players not getting the playing time they feel they deserve and instead of doing the right thing, they blow up, throw tantrums and/or quit and as a society we are allowing it to happen or become acceptable and it's disgusting.

Don't even get this old man started about social media.

the old man used social media enough to make character assumptions about the "kid" w/o even knowing what what happened. No only him but all the "kids" in society these days.

I, in know way, made any type of character assumptions based on social media. I never mentioned the player or his specific actions on the sideline during the game. I simply used the posted story to make a statement on the younger generations in our society and their entitlement and the fact that so many are given an easy out and excuses made for them to where poor behavior is becoming acceptable.

News outlets are reporting that there was a blow up on the field with some coaches and that he started to walk off, started to remove his jersey, and then did leave the field and tweeted from his own account F Ohio State. I don't care what transpired on the field, but IMO that type of behavior is unacceptable and can think of very few reason as to why a player should be given an out for leaving the field and cannot think of one reason why his tweet should be defended. If you aren't playing, and this is at any level, there are usually reasons as to your lack of PT.

And finally, as Spartanfan334 suggested, the player is no longer a "kid." He is a 22-24 year old man. This behavior would not be acceptable in the workforce and if he did it while at a place of employment his employment would be terminated.

Sorry I just get tired of people calling adult age people kids...he sure acted like a 5 yr old kid though and no way in hell would I ever let him return after what he said and did...and alot of the entitlement you talk about while 100% correct starts at home most of the time...little Johnny can't do any wrong in the parents eyes...keep making excuses and letting them off they expect it their entire life

I'm sorry but this adult acted like a little baby and should be punished somehow

People don't want to believe it but Virginia is a glass ceiling state for talent. Kids never get checked by reality, they buy into the lies PSU or OSU or Bama or Georgia or whatever sell them and they go and either ride pine for four years or transfer after two because they can't advance beyond the scout team. For every one actual success of a kid going OOS I can point to ten that failed miserably.

Virginia is not as big time in football as some think and these kids learn the hard way when they show up at these OOS programs who chew them up and spit them out.

Tell that to TreVeyon Henderson @OSU, Brandon Smith @PSU, Malcolm Greene @Clemson just to name a few. Very inaccurate statement. There have been plenty of high school football players from Va in P5 college football.

Chris Tyree @ ND, KeAndre Lambert @ Penn State, Kevin Gilliam @ Oklahoma, Tony Grimes @ UNC, Bugg Jones @ Boston College, Tristan Leigh @ Clemson. We can go on and on Coach. Very bad take by Hokies.

We gave you 9 so you owe us 90 who failed.
9 out of a whole state. So VA currently has only 9 that we can discuss that are contributing at a D1 level this yr? The Roanoke Times does a top 100 each yr. I'm sure more than 9 signed to D1 schools. Most never play or transfer.

I’m not going to go back and forth, but don’t be that Salem fan. You’re better than that. We gave him 9 players and he said he could name 10 who is not successful for every one who is.. I’m not a rocket scientist, but that’s 90 unsuccessful players he has to name homeboiiii 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ Many players have left the state and were/are very successful.

Don't be that Salem fan 😂😂. What does that suppose to mean? I'm a fan of high school football. No one said that players have not been successful. For every Percy Harvin their is a Phillip Sims. Off the top of my head Holmes was successful at OSU but Wayne Davis transfered to JMU. It is what it is. The numbers will always be in favor of the players that don't make it. Speakers volumes for the kids that do.

The reality is that every school signs 25 kids every year and very few of them ever make it to the starting 22. If you can get 10 eventual starters out of a recruiting class then you are doing very well. So that leaves 15 kids who either accept their role as a back up or look for greener pastures.

I hate seeing talented kids leave Virginia for other places but the reality is that Tech and UVA have plenty of kids who either drop from the roster or transfer as well.

Regardless the kid should not have let his emotions get the best of him in the heat of the moment. I'm sure he regrets doing it and will pay a heavy price for many years. Unfortunately his many accomplishments aren't going to be what pops up when a future employer or coach googles his name. But that is a burden that he brought on himself and one that he will have to bear.

Looking at the NFL list that HoosFan shared, A LOT of those guys are VA natives that went out of state.. For me, I don’t think it really matters where you go. If you have talent you’ll be found. I think it has more to do with Fuente and Mendenhall not being able to recruit the elite talent in state.

I hate seeing most of the top ranked VA kids going out of state. I do not think it is a lack of Fuente or Mendenhall recruiting abilities. I just think that when you are a topped ranked player, and bigger named schools or currently winning, and have stable coaching, it is hard to pass up.

We could make this statement about any state. This happens to players from every state every year. It's not a knock on the quality of football in those states.

I get OSU, Alabama, and Georgia. I don't get UNC. Mack Brown has to be the best smooth talker in history.
The UNC brand may be the best in the nation though. Their football program isn’t close to any of those schools, but the overall brand is head and shoulders better.

I don't know why recruits care about "the brand" when the team finished 6-7 after being expected to contend for a playoff spot and have a Heisman frontrunner.

Mack is definitely part of that, he's up there on the Mount Rushmore for HCs as recruiters, but at this point it's mostly just Dre Bly and the bag game. Money will always talk.

It doesn't take $$$ to poach recruits from Fuente. Pitt, Maryland, even WF did a better job of recruiting VA. He was just a bum recruiter.

Oh, I'm not talking about UNC beating out Fuente, I'm talking about beating out Bama, UGA, Clemson, etc. for some of these kids. Bly being the bag man isn't even really a secret, it's practically half of his job. Plus with NIL it's basically legal to buy recruits now anyway, that's more or less what Texas A&M did to land their class.

Tech is doing a very good job of recruiting the VA boys since the new regime has taken over. Ryan Smith to Northwestern stings but the Hokies have done a good job so far.

UNC has a lot of pull in-state and the tidewater. They're not beating out Alabama, UGA or Clemson for a lot of recruits outside NC.

Honestly, it wasn't until this year that they kept Clemson and UGA out. Tennessee being down has helped as well. They used to always get their fair share from western NC.
