No valid excuses yet. Our losses from injury, portal and draft opt out will be comparable or worse.
Worst case scenario. A bunch of healthy players looking to crack a lineup somewhere and make some NIL$.
Not sure why the portal doesn't open after the bowl season, rather than now. In addition to players not playing in bowls due to injury concerns, portal losses on top of that can make the teams playing just a shell of themselves and it just seems unnecessary (at least the portal date part of it). Is there some reason the portal can't open after the last bowl (now 1/20 after the CFP)?
My guess is that if you wait until after the bowl season it is harder to get a player signed and in the new school for the spring semester. Just a speculation on my part but it is the only reason I can think of.
Could be; maybe could at least wait until after Jan 4th when 90% of the bowls are done. Will be interesting to see how many transfers there are from the CFP teams before their games.
Portal needs to be open to allow players to transfer before spring semester. I don't know what dates are required for that. But even if you could not formally enter the portal until January 5, for example, lots of guys looking to move for more $ would still sit out a bowl IMO. It's not much different than a guy sitting out a bowl to avoid the injury risk going into the draft.
Rutgers spring semester starts Jan 21. If they wait until the 4th when will they visit? Can they get transcripts sent to other schools when the school is shut down for break?
What are the technical rules with the portal? Can the new kid who transferred to RU from James Madison play in our bowl game?
Except as far as I know, only 2 starters (RT and CB) and a pretty good back up WR. I believe the rest are guys who weren't playing much to begin with.
