not crazy about him but the media and recruits love him

If it's him -- and it seems the most likely of all the candidates -- I see him as a winner here, and in for the long haul.

But it's gonna take three years of misery to get there.

I hope they are not! Pretty much every name has been torn apart by one or more posters here. It's meaningless.

As a B list coach you're not getting better than Al Golden. I just hope that he takes the job seriously. We as a fan base will see how serious Rutgers is in allowing him to succeed when Golden hires his OC/DC's. You never know what can happen if he is able to land the right recruits.

Like I said, hopefully they aren't picking a coach based on what this board thinks...a big portion of this board supported Flood for years, even though it was clear that he was in over his head.

Head coaching record
Overall
59–59
Bowls 0–3

just be fair and take the 1-11 first year at temple out of that. (58-48). 54-40 taking out year two (4-8).

The 0-3 Bowl Record doesn't impress . That's for sure.

Kind of feels a lot like GS..great at fixing a mess and getting to just above average. That will be tough in a division with OSU, PSU, UM, MSU.

If RU doesn't score a knock out winner here it will be more of the same. Less blow outs but just as many losses and less bowls than the past.

but if that's all we got then we could do worse IMHO.

I'm skeptical that his heart would be with Rutgers and he would bolt to Pen St if the opportunity ever presented itself.

I agree with everything you said but if Al Golden is not the caliber coach to recruit elite athletes and get us to that next level why hire him? If money is not the issue why hire Golden? My answer is that Barchi, Hobbs and the BOT as well as the donors will only hire a HC that does not tarnish the Universities image. So to the powers that be Golden is a safe hire and they could not give a poo poo what fans think. Go ahead and give up your season tickets they won't care, they may start caring of the B10 prepares an exit interview for us.

Given a choice, Penn State will take Rhule, they are not complete idiots. Hire Golden, he is all ours.

Broke down and read the article, bait for click is all it is.
Right now the short list he's supposed to be on haven't been interviewed, and Golden is said to be a top candidate, not the top candidate.
OP was very misleading with that headline and Sergeant really didn't give out any information, that
hasn't been speculated on this board.

Golden is a step up or more from Flood--though that's not saying much--but it would be a safe and unimaginative choice, one that seems to lack a lot of ambition.

Can he at least not wear a tie on the sidelines? It's just weird nowadays.
The story I believe is that his mother told him to wear that tie, I don't think is is going anywhere. Started first year at Temple if I am correct.
