Kennedy wants unlimited fouls.

That would completely change the game. Just mug the hot hand every time he shoots or bring back the hack a Shaq defense.

Do what the CBA did back in the 1980's-

When a player got six fouls, instead of fouling out they got to stay in the game. However, every foul they committed after that would result in two shots and the ball on the side for the other team.

That would make SEC basketball even more brutal to watch than it already is. If there is a poor free throw shooter in the game then what is to stop a team from fouling him every trip down the court and giving him about 40 free throws?

The fact that the team gets two and the ball like a Tech is now. Fouling a guy every time down the court would be giving away points (even with a bad FT shooter) because the team keeps the ball if the fouler already had 5 fouls.

The effect would likely be the other way - less fouls because you can't rebound a missed FT.

It would also let coaches keep players in that pick up two quick fouls rather than having to sit them for the last ten minutes of the half.

Or here's a thought. How about coaching your players to play the game the way it was meant to be played and not turn it into football on hardwood.

1. It's obvious people don't read things before they comment on them.

2. Kennedy doesn't think soccer is a sport.

I'm not real familiar with the exact rules of soccer, but wouldn't yellow and red cards be more comparable to flagrant and technical fouls than regular fouls?

Aren't the regular "fouls" in soccer just a blown whistle and the other team gets possession at the spot?

So saying that basketball is the only sport your players can be ejected from (for routine fouls/penalties) would be accurate, right?

It's not bad rule.....

It basically takes one of your players out of your defense. However, if the guy is a hot shooter or a defensive mastermind who doesn't touch his opponents, it would be a good rule.

I've always thought they should have fouling out per half....give players 3 or 4 fouls per half, instead of 5 per game. Then, if the game goes to overtime, wipe the slate clean and give each player 2 or 3 fouls.

The referee can show a yellow card for persistent infringement of the Laws of the Game. Two of those and you're gone.

So, in a sense, you can foul out. It just depends on how many fouls the referee considers to be persistent infringement.

What would stop them is the fact that the offense keeps the ball. BTW FT shooting is part of the game too. A poor foul shooting is a liability to your team just as much as bad D or perimeter shooting.

A better rule here would be to institute sort of a triple bonus. Players do not foul out but when you get to lets say 15 or maybe 20 team fouls your opponent is awarded 2 foul shots and the ball. That would eliminate the karate chop defense because a team could not afford to be unable to get the ball back by fouling in the waning seconds.

this has been brought up in the NBA by Van Gundy multiple times. People want to see stars play. After 6 fouls, if they foul again it could be an automatic 2 shots and the ball for the other team. That would make the player with 6 fouls either not keep fouling(on purpose) or come out of the game.

I am guessing you didn't read the article. It wouldn't be a good idea to mug the hot hand or do hack a Shaq. The fouled player's team would get the ball back each time after the 2 FTs.

The stars rarely foul out

The thought of the rule is dumb as hell

Just give the player the right to use up all of his fouls before he's fouled out.. 6 personal fouls and 2 techs. if all of those are depleted then he's out.

To clarify, a player has 6 personal fouls and then corresponding fouls after that would be "technical" fouls. So assuming the player doesn't get a technical foul earlier in the game for foul play they would get 6 personal fouls and 2 "technical" fouls before theyre out.
