Has he received any coaching offers?
And it is probably because he has zero experience as a HC much like rick Ray.
Meanwhile, when Virginia Tech decided to make a move (after only two years), they went out and got a commitment from Buzz Williams. Buzz had been at Marquette for six years and taken them to the NCAAT five of the six years and to at least the Sweet 16 three of those years and Elite Eight once.
The keys being ... they had a commitment BEFORE they fired their coach and they hired an EXPERIENCED HC.
Va Tech has less of a BB resume than MSU by a long shot; the main advantage is their ACC membership; which after the on-cout performance by the likes of Duke, NC State, Pitt, Cuse & North Carolina ... is not so shiny right now.
I truly hope Ray can put things together in '14/'15 because I really think he can be successful. This year, he needs to prove it in the W-L column.
Do we have any chance of even being in the running for Malik Newman
I may be wrong, but I feel that Ray's tenure depends on landing Newman. It will be a shot in the arm of the fan base that we can recruit again and land top talent again. He will be a first day starter for us. We will have some experience around him that will not leave him hanging out to dry. And like another poster mentioned, it will guarantee one extra year for Rick Ray. Hopefully, our boosters and season ticket holders are tired of losing.
It would be huge for Ray and our basketball program. Those who follow bball recruiting, is it really mainly between us and UK? If Ray can show further player development and back that up with a +.500 record this year I think we have a good shot. Ray has been all over Malik from day 1. As with all hyped up HS basketball players these days everyone around him expects him to be a 1 and done and the pipeline of a UK or a KU will be hard to overcome for us
How is it Jeff Malone never gets brought up in these discussions? He was a decent head coach in the D-League, twice. Where as we don't know a damn thing about these second rate assistants, we know Malone is a great coach and player... He would just have to develop to recruiting game. That's what assistants are for.
Is this comparable with the strong push we made for Marlon Humphrey with the notable exceptions of the sport and where their fathers played ball?
Rekkon when Rick Ray will develop a recruiting game?
I see where Boston College might offer Tommy Amaker their Job. Wonder why we didn't talk to Him?
