they have almost no backcourt talent right now. Goodwin is talented but almost always out of control. Then they have a very average undersized player in Mays and a walk on getting serious minutes in Polson. Wiltjer is the only shooter on the team. They are filled with front court athletes that all can dunk all day long in Poythress, Noel and Cauley-Stein but none have a single post move. Unless they have 3 guards that are hurt right now (do think they have 1, the NCState transfer) they are the worst UK team I've seen since Gillespie's last year. By far the worst team Calipari has fielded. His string of elite PG's in finally over.

I agree to an extent.

They don't have an elite point guard, but Goodwin will be very good. This team is extremely young and making the transition to the college game a little slower than some of his past freshmen. This team will be tough to beat at the end of the year and that's all that matters in college hoops. Florida may be better than Kentucky at the moment, but no one in the SEC has more talent than the Cats right now.

If that talent means dunking I agree...

but they have 1 player on the whole team that has to be guarded at the 3 point line in Wiltjer. As soon as every team figures out to force UK to shoot 3's and just leave your team in the post to defend UK will be struggling to win.

Did Calipari blow a gasket when they got beat last night? I didn't watch the game. But getting beat by Duke isn't anything to be ashamed of, even if you're Kentucky.

Don't forget that when you play against Kentucky, especially in SEC play...

That you're playing 5 against 8. Kentucky will be more than fine. You can't take too much away from one game this early in the season.

I've watched both their games. They have no guards. That's a big problem. When your two best guards are a walk-on slow little white guy and a bad shooting out of control freshman you have serious issues at the guard position. Maybe the hurt NCState transfer is good but he's no Wall, Knight, Rose, Evans or Teague. On top of the missing PG they have no Darius Miller type that can drain 3's all day from the SG position. UK is 17ed at the PG and SG positions this year.

He claimed Duke was flopping at half time...and then said he was just joking after the game
He really is a sore loser.

Yea... he's a prick for sure. I hate UK, but they'll be fine. They've got a ton of talent.

Calipari has been on twitter this morning talking about their last loss being vs Vandy and how he didn't remember it because he was so focused on the NCAAT.

They have Ryan Harrow, a transfer, that will end up at PG if he can get well.
Has the flu, mono, or something and did not play last night.
UK will be fine. I do think that UF and Mizzo will give them a run for their money this year.

Here's my UK predictions. 9-4 OOC 11-7 SEC 20-11 before SEC tourney. Bubble team that gets in as a 9seed. Bookmarked*

UK will be compete for the SEC title on pure talent alone. Not having Harrow last night killed them. No one in the SEC can match up against UK when they play Cauley-Stein and Noel at the same time. This team is very young and raw and I promise you Cal will have them playing at a high level before SEC play. They almost beat a veteran Duke team with no point guard last night. The difference between this years team and last years is that last year you had 3 great returning players in Lamb, Jones, and Miller. This year you only one Wiltjer.

BTW, I too will take that bet on over 20 wins.

You may well be right, but I'd avoid any knee-jerk reactions from a game in which they just played Duke. If that dirty bastard can get the talent focused, they may not be as good, but they'll be good enough.

The bet is...

bragging rights and the ability to bring this post back up and show how stupid the other guy is in his predictions. The UK team I've seen after 80 minutes has 3 guys that can dunk better than almost anyone in NCAA in Noel, Poythress and Cauley-Stein. Those 3 have zero post moves combined though. They have a skinny white boy in Wiltjer that can shoot 3's and has a limited inside game. They have an out of control brick shooting PG in Goodwin and a 140lb stick in Harrow. With zero 3point threat outside of Wiltjer and 3 guys that rely on dunks and layups for points this will be the worst UK team we have seen Calipari ever assemble to date. Here's the losses.

1. Duke
2. @Notre Dame
3. Baylor
4. @Louisville
5. @Vandy
6. Tennessee
7. @Ole Miss
8. @Florida
9. @Tennessee
10. Mizzou
11. Florida

Home to Vandy and one sleeper upset are potential L's too and yes I have got them losing to the Rebels on the road.

My prediction is much more difficult than you just saying they'll win more than 20 so add some substance to yours please on why they'll be better than what i say and include all losses. Thanks for playing "UK idiot of 2012". Winner is closest to win total by start of SEC tourney. Can be over or under. Tiebreaker is NCAA seed. #9 seed. Now let's see your predictions.

You do realize that Cal has never lost a home game at Rupp and UK has won like 50 straight there (or something ridiculous like that) and you have them losing 4 games. You also realize that UK already has 4 players projected to go in the top 16 picks in the draft. Look I live in Lexington and my wife's family has season tickets so we go to a lot of the games and this team will be just fine. Harrow has not really even played this year and he is big time point guard and is the big reason UK lost that game last night. You simply have not watched enough of UK ball (what limited ball they have played) to say that Noel, Cauley-Stein, or Poythress have no post game. I thought Noel played great against Duke and showed a lot of hustle and scored really well in the paint. Cauley-Stein is probably the most athletic player out there and he has a sick 12 ft bank shot. He lead the state of Kansas in high school in receptions!! Yes he was a 7'0 wide receiver and also played tennis. Poythress didnt play well but he will be a beast. But I will play along with your little bet....I'll go 25-6 on the season. No way UK will ever be a 9 seed. 3 seed will be the lowest.
