The guy put in the work and got his degree and even if it is UNL an Engineering Degree is an accomplishment. If he lands on a team that has a better image relative to defense then he is probably making the right choice and certainly right for him.

The scheme we are playing doesn't reduce stats. If anything, the stats should have INCREASED. Collins was doubled teamed A LOT. VV was hurt and played lazy and that will show
up on tapes.

I was thinking about the stats today and thought that last season we rotated the DTs more than when Bo was here. I think that played into a decline in stats as well.

A couple of things are going to happen.
#1 We'll never hear his name again
#2 He'll never be drafted
#3 He'll be hanging out in the Lincoln bars in a year or two trying to get an Omaha beef gig.

Well...I think he has a degree in engineering...so he might find a job.

I am convinced that the Pelini regime recruited some of the laziest dlinemen that this program has ever seen. I know that JP came in and laid down the law and put his expectations out there and 2 guys bailed.

I might be mistaken, but I think if I remember correctly, after Parrella was hired, Christian Peter during an interview on one of the radio shows stated that some of the d-linemen will be in for a rude awakening with what Parrella will expect out of them in terms of work ethic and effort.

How dare he ask for work ethic and effort!

It sure sounds like this may have entered into it and if Parrella has laid the law down then good for him. If a kid doesnt want to be here then good luck to them and have a good life, we do not need them. However these two took reps needed by the younger players and along with Valentine did not show respect to their coach(s) to tell them where exactly their thought process was. You can blame this on the players - current coaches or past coaches but it is a sign of problems in the locker room - hopefully this is the last of it but if I was Banker I would be trying to find out the pulse of the remaining players pretty fast

I think our struggles in pass defense (linebackers and d-backs) also hurt the stats. Hard to pick up coverage sacks when people are open. You could make an argument that the pass coverage issues can be partly blamed on the scheme change, but that's a hard sell after just one season. Somebody else mentioned Suh getting good stats; certainly the outstanding secondary he had behind him was a big part of that. (Being a freakbeast also helped.)

At first I was bummed that we were losing some depth on the dline, but after hearing the interview, all I can say is good riddance. I am convinced that the Pelini regime recruited some of the laziest dlinemen that this program has ever seen. This is why I continue to be baffled by people that say Riley is completely responsible for the results at Nebraska this year. That's asinine. One of the worst things about Pelini's departure was that it left a new staff to try and correct the unbelievably incompetent roster management. Last year we could barely start the correct number of linebackers and had to hope that Armstrong didn't get hit too hard. This year with a couple departures we barely have enough defensive lineman to get through the year. Yet Riley is supposed to figure it out? As though he can wave a magic wand and make these issues go away. SMH.

Well said. As for this year's D-line, the only roster issue attributable to Riley was our failure to recruit any DTs last year, but he's already addressed that issue by replacing HH with JP. Still his responsibility to have the right staff in place at all times, but I respect that he took swift action to remedy the situation.

Why are people attacking Williams? He was injured all the time, he earned his degree, he has decided to move on. He has fulfilled his end of the contract and this is his 4 DL coach in his 6th year of eligibility. Nothing wrong with any of this. What am I missing? Did we think he was going to start? As I recall he has been sidelined by a wrist injury this Spring so he didn't take any reps.

I don't think anybody has an issue with Williams' injuries or leaving the program. It's what he's saying about it; in that he thinks he should be a starter and the current staff is holding him back from being a starter.

*** I know that's not what Williams has stated verbatim, but I believe that's what he is implying.

After Williams tweet to Jason Peter...I will be rooting for this bum knees to give out again in the SEC. Just goes to show some of the cancers on this team in the past. Something along the lines of Peter being a druggie and NFL bust. See ya KW, good luck walking in a year.

The kid trashed Pelini's staff in the past as well. It better work for him at Kentucky, because there are no bridges left untorched. I do like that he went out like a bitter little kid. Where do you think that dynamite behavior was learned?

An NFL bust?? K Dub won't even sniff the NFL. LOL...JP played 4 years and retired for health reasons. Also a 1st round draft pick who gave his all and played with a bad back and neck in many games, won titles and AA honors. WTF did you do K Dub? Your legacy is telling reporters you're not a backup. When in fact you were. No more quitters on the D line. Time to nut up or shut up!! Good riddance.

I would agree with you about the linebackers last year, but I don't see how you can blame Bo for what happened this year with the defensive line. You might be able to blame Rick. I think you can make a valid case against that pos. Mike hired Hank, and now improved things by hiring JP. JP was probably too intense, ran off some guys and at some point, the domino argument fails and excuses are just excuses. JP probably could have eased in to things a bit better, but long term, he will do good things most likely. This is mostly on the current staff, not the prior one.

If anything, a very creative use of Twitter's character number limit by JP. As for Williams, more evidence that we shouldn't be at all bummed that he will not be in Lincoln for the fall season.

It would appear that the case of the Dline is that of a slow building dumpster fire. Poor recruiting post-Callahan, lots of busts under the Pelini regime, then Hank decided to take last year off. Pretty clear that Rick K was quite the meddler. The most talented of the recent players have been underachievers. Parella inherited this situation. We have no idea of the dynamic of the Dline room this Spring. Vince and Maliek were gone and I assume Williams wasn't around (do injured guys still come to meetings?). McMullen was in a room with a new coach and a bunch of underclassmen and a new coach who may have had some different expectations. He decided he didn't want to stick around for that. Williams followed the siren song of another former coach.
So this is really a kind of hard reset. No Cricks, Potters, Suhs or Pierres for a transition. We will have to depend on a group of young, talented guys and they will have to depend on each other. Sometimes adversity breeds greatness.

I stopped listening to his interview as soon as he said "It was a business decision" This kid has no idea what business is or for that matter what the real world is. He is just a young kid who is a bit full of himself and thinks he knows more than he actually does.

Life will deal with his attitudes imo - I wish him well but he will soon find out what he thinks he knows he really has no clue

What imaginary proof do you have that Parrella is a huge improvement?

We have tweets from several recruits with positive unsolicited comments about Parrella. Didn't get that at all from the last guy. While that may not be huge, it is an clear improvement and its not imaginary.

A well maintained roster situation doesn't encounter what we have seen at LB, DE, QB (all last year) and now the DL this year. The lack of correct numbers, scholarship spacing as a function of year, and general depth is putting the current staff in a very difficult spot during their early years. Bray worked miracles last year with our LB group. Hopefully JP can do the same with DL because there are some dumb *** Husker fans that want to run this staff out of town after year two.

Expectations set for players on the DL changed with a new coaching staff. Both staffs are to blame for the loss of four DT's, but like I said before. Hopefully this is the last purge of Pelini. The team dynamic is better without Williams. Time to move forward.

It is fair to consider that different offensive/defensive identities will have different player & position requirements, however I don't think one can place blame solely on the prior staff because the new staff has a different scheme. You really don't want to get in the habit of using the old coach as a scapegoat either. Mike's been coaching a long time. He is running the show and can be held responsible for the results he produces.

While I agree the previous staff did not do a good job on roster management but lets keep in mind they were fired. Riley and crew are responsible for the play on the field. As far as the Dline goes starting last year they had plenty and good talent redshirting because it all left does not give them a pass on this

If everything was rosy then we would not have hired a new staff - and we hired a staff with lot of experience to fix these problems
