Key to Jarvis playing a stout big guy...

if the guy has somewhat of a hook, it's hard for Jarvis to block it. The separation by a wider guy with a hook doesn't let Jarvis get up on his shot and block it. I think that is something that could play into Thursday night. This guy is 6-7. I don't know how he plays but if he has resemblance of a hook, it could cause us trouble. If tries to go straight at Jarvis, I see Jarvis tearing his *** up.

he looks clumsy with the ball. I just don't see a hook... they say he body's up and push down low...

I read somewhere that he's not only shorter than Jarvis at 6'7", but he has short arms for his height as well. I wonder if that fact coupled with JV's 7'4" wingspan might even things out. I have no idea.

even the big guy from tennessee (that looked like sean mays) got his hook to drop. i think hendrix used the same move every time we played bama, too.

at 6'7", and on the assumption that he's not a great leaper, brockman must be able to make his own space down low. JV's length will probably create some real problems for brockman. the key is going to be keeping him (and them) off the offensive boards and away from easy buckets down low - i suspect that his rebounding leads to a lot of easy put-backs.

They lead the PAC 10 in rebounds at 41 a game (+8 margin). We averaged 38.5 (-0.7 maring). That is my biggest concern.

It looks like he has big body and strength. He will be able to box out and get position. It will be a matter of Varnado being quicker, out leaping him, and being about to rebound over and around him.

Also, I see they like to use their guards to drive. State will have to play good helpside defense in case Varnando gets pushed out of the lane. In addition to not allowing easy layups and forcing longer shots. Longer shots lead to longer rebounds too.

That's a difference of 2.5 rebounds per game. We weren't even a good rebounding team this year and we're within 3 rebounds of them. Over the last few games, our rebounding and defense has improved. If there is one thing that Rick Stansbury can coach, it's rebounding.

I'm just not that impressed with their "rebounding prowess". I don't believe that they will out-rebound us by that much. Even if they do, we've been out-rebounded all year and still won 23 games.

He is big and physical, Brockman will take it straight at him with contact. If they let some contact go then we should be okay, otherwise it will be a long day for us with SWAT on the bench. If we can get Brockman in foul trouble we can take over inside...

They like to drive and are not good perimeter shooters. I am feeling that uber-effective Stansbury 2-3 getting unveiled tomorrow afternoon.

Pardon my frankness. I've seen enough of this ****:

Yeah, I was thinking it was about time for a new one. It just always makes me smile to think about November 29, 2008.

Maybe I'll go back to the Sandberg Hall of Fame plaque for a while.

Deny Brockman the ball by either guarding him in front (which isn't jarvis's cup of tea) and making them throw over him or deny him the ball by getting his hand across Brockman's body. If Jarvis stands behind a wide body he will get pushed underneath the basket which would be bad for us. The other thing is for Jarvis not to just leave him along when they drive to the basket and try and block every shot. I think Downey from SC was a master in dribbling to the basket and dishing out. What we did was make him beat us with his shot selection, we rotated very well in the lane with weak side help. We should be able to do this if they don't shoot well from outside. Keep them from the second shot and keep them off the free throw lane, that's there strong suit.

Brockman will be harassed all day, unless they hit their 3's. I can see him getting doubled and tripled all day, when he does get the ball. If they can't hit their 3's, I don't see them beating us tomorrow.
