The number one thing in my mind is to limit the turnovers. Wimsatt probably won't have as much time in the pocket against Virginia Tech, he has to be careful not to make bad decisions. And VTech has probably seen how Temple punched the ball out, they will try to do that too.

@Richard Schnyderite and @mb5789 did a podcast with the Va Tech podcaster, and I wanted to buy the poor Va Tech guy some antidepressants. He predicted a 23-10 loss by Va Tech. Their running game is terrible. Their starting QB probably is out. The wild card is RU has a bad history with backup QBs, and apparently the backup QB has some running ability but not so good passing ability. If RU can contain the run, it may be a low scoring win. 2-0.

Virginia Tech gives up a ton of yards on the ground and in the air. Plus they only had 11 rushing yards against Purdue.

No turnovers, limited penalties, strong kicking game. Make them go 75-80 yards consistently. Our D and running game are good enough to give us the edge.

In which quarter do we get the safety?

Our offense has been very predictable and simple. Need to show different looks.
Nope sorry. Not this game unless we fall behind. We have the more talented defense and dare I say it, offense. This is a game we should be able to win through bread and butter. Their depleted roster isn’t good. Nothing cute. I considered this a 50 / 50 game to start the season by based on their injuries this would be a very disappointing loss at home.

And we have a very strong kicking game.
All kickoffs are touchbacks- no threat for a return.
We have a FG kicker that can do 50+
Punter that can pin them deep.

Here is VT's final drive with the 2nd string QB - probably starting this weekend.

We’ve had bad luck with back up running QBs historically. However, it’s hard to take much away from his ability to move the ball this drive given the context. If VTech needed only a FG to tie, the way he moved the ball would be more impressive IMO. Since they needed a TD in a short amount of time starting from their own 9, a QB rush for 13 yards seems less impressive to me because Purdue’s D scheme was likely focused on preventing the big plays down field.

This game is about pressure on defense. Look for a lot of twists and stunts up front. I would expect 5-7 coming on most plays. Us not having breakdowns in gap control on defense will be big with a mobile QB. Defense also needs to capitalize on the opportunities. We can not have dropped INTs, spun out sacks, and missed fumble recoveries this week.

Offense is going to be about can we make VT uncomfortable. I am going to expect man press free to start the game. They are going to come out to stop our run. with 7-8 in the box. We have to take the opportunities they have us there and either go vertical or hit the quick game (depending on the space they give us).
