Kiffen To Houston

With the talent in his backyard, he should do a bang up job. Isn't his dad supposed to be a defensive guru? Will he bring him on board, or is he even still in coaching?
Perhaps the 4th attempt will reverse the trend that he is a terrible head coach?

I am more intrigued by who Saban will land as his new OC. Hopefully, he is looking for someone he has worked with in the past.
My thought exactly Godfather. Failed at the Tennessee, USC and with the Raiders. Some coaches are not cut out to be head coaches. Time will tell.
Steve Sarkasian is already on staff. I would assume he promotes him and roles on. He and Kiffin run the same offense.
Kiffen is almost certain to fail, yet again. The only reason he had success at Bama was because Saban had to chew his *** constantly to get him in line.

Bama has had one of their better offenses since hes been around. hell, he one last year without a qb
This was my initial take but I think we have to give him the possibility that he has grown up. Being around Saban's discipline and getting the pride/arrogance knocked out of you could help in that area as well.
My thing is I don't see the genius coach many seem to label him as. He's a good coach and has done a good job at places including Bama but you have to keep that relevant when you're working with 5 star OLine and 5 Star backs you can help supplement your game plan with.
I know the young crowd likes how he calls his touchdowns on the sidelines and thinks that's cool and makes him a guru but they don't show the times he has his arms raised and it doesn't work. The cool/hip angle has been his biggest asset so far.
So while I don't get he's some homerun hire I do think he potential to be pretty good if he's grown like you said. Might have been the one thing he needed to move him to the next level.
If he goes to Houston its only a matter of time until he's left in a parking garage watching the team bus disappear into the distance.
I don't really care about Kiffen, but I don't think it is fair to say he failed in coaching because he hasn't. He never got a real shot in the NFL due to arguing over decisions with the owner the most important was JaMarcus Russell- Kiffen didn't want him (Davis should have listened)- point is many feel he got a raw deal there, he succeeded in Tennessee and was hired out, he may not have reached National Title level at USC but he sure didn't fail as their worst season was the season he left (7-6) and here again some feel he got shafted but as someone pointed out his immaturity and arguing with the board got him there. I think what everyone needs to understand is that he did all of that....in his early to mid 30's.... he has this resume and is still only 41..... I would have zero issue with him if we ever needed a replacement. He is young, recruits love him and he has the pedigree. I think it was a great hire by Houston

Hes put up good numbers. But how much is due to Saban constantly chewing his ***? If he was doing so well, I dont think that would be required would it?
Kiffin we thank you. Anything that might slow down the Alabama freight train is a PLUS imo. Maybe the next OC isn't that great? Who knows you know? Change can be a mfer. I personally hate Alabama because they take our best instate recruits. Stay out of Kentucky you bastards. Coach Cal needs to return the favor threefold.

Where you seeing this cause the only thing I see on ESPN's webpage is that Houston officials are meeting tonight to discuss their top 3 choices and that they want to put a major buyout clause in the contract of the next coach
No surprise. Saban and Kiffin don't get along. Kiffin needs a change of scenery, and the Houston job is a good job. Steve Sarkisian will be internally promoted to Alabama's new offensive coordinator.
Exactly made the playoff all 3 years he was at Bama, with QB's who were after thoughts, Sims in '14 and Coker last year.

Kiffin had talent at Bama but his handling of the offense and play calling were genius. He designed the offense of each game against the weakness of the opposing defense. I do not know what will happen at Houston but his time at Bama was not wasted effort.

hmm what are all these tries at being a terrible head coach? Oakland is one. He left Tn for USC after a year so you can't say that. At USC he was pretty darn successful their and with a limited amount of scholarships.. think he had like 60 or so players.
He may be a douche but he seems to be a good coach. It was a mistake for Oakland to hire such a young head coach in which many players are not even going to respect him.
So you are saying your a very smart coach. So smart your better than the most successful coach in modern times who could have any OC he wanted and he wanted Kiffin. [eyeroll]

I lived in the greater Houston area in late sixties -early seventies and high school football was almost a religion there. The State 2-A championship game in either 69 or 70 between Austin Reagan and Galveston Ball played at Rice Stadium 50,000 fans attended! Recently read that U. of Houston roster had 80 members that played high school ball in the greater Houston area!

I read that Houston recruits within a 25 mile radius of their campus. Their recruiting budget must be peanuts.
IMO.. I believe the time Kiffin spent with Saban will make him the coach everyone thought he would be. The guy has a great offensive mind, but needed someone like Saban to show him how to be a head coach and run a program. If he takes what he has learned from Saban and uses it Houston may not miss a beat.
