Steve Sarkasian is already on staff. I would assume he promotes him and roles on. He and Kiffin run the same offense.
Yep. There was a good reason why saban added him on the staff. Saban knew lane would try again at head coaching soon. And that's why saban is the best coach in the business

Watched Kiffin interviewed after the SEC championship game and still don't get what so many think is so great about him. He comes across as more dumb than smart. He's the classic born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple guy because he has always gotten great jobs. He was a disaster at USC and to Al Davis a disaster with the Raiders. His one year at UT wasn't exactly great. He mouthed off a lot, recruited questionable players with questionable methods and got credit for playing UF and Bama closer than many expected. His best win was beating Georgia (UK beat them in Athens that year) in Knoxville but also lost to Ole Miss, UCLA (at home), Auburn (Auburn was 3-5 in the SEC that year) and badly to Va. Tech in the bowl game. He is a coordinator at a program that is recruiting like hasn't been seen in years so he has great talent.

Houston is a job where every coach in recent history has been very successful and moved onto better jobs. Doubt that happens here.

With the talent in his backyard, he should do a bang up job. Isn't his dad supposed to be a defensive guru? Will he bring him on board, or is he even still in coaching?

Kiffin senior is like ancient now isn't he? I almost made a "is he even alive" joke but that is rude. He is really old though. Looks like he is coaching with Jaguars.

Finebaum said he does not think Sark is the successor. Does Sark go with Kiffin?

Who will Saban entice?

So you are saying your a very smart coach. So smart your better than the most successful coach in modern times who could have any OC he wanted and he wanted Kiffin. [eyeroll]

And if his demeanor during games and reports about what does on at practice suggests he wasnt happy with his product as he could be.

I think its pretty clear Saban has a soft spot for rehabbing coaches.

....similar to how so many of our fans feel about Petrino.........

Petrino is an awful human, but he wins everywhere hes been. Hes also produced lethal offenses at every stop. I really dont see the comparison in terms of being a HC.

If Kiffin can not let his head swell too much, he might get a chance to do well there. If he goes in with his arrogant attitude as "the man", he will be gone after three seasons.

Kiffen is almost certain to fail, yet again. The only reason he had success at Bama was because Saban had to chew his *** constantly to get him in line.

Bama however will improve with Kiffin gone imo.

Bigblue, are you insane? Bama is undefeated this year, won the NC last year. That doesn't leave a lot of room for improvement. Someone must have thought Kiffin was doing a good job, or Houston wouldn't have hired him.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

Being a good coordinator is not being a good head coach.

The only place lane has experienced any real success has been at Bama, while consistently being chewed on by his boss.

Maybe he has learned the error of his ways. It's possible. But it's much more likely to be more of the same. He doesn't seem like one who easily learns lessons.

No one said he was a clown.

Are there really this many Kiffin nut swingers? who knew.
No. I don't even like the guy. I think he is an arrogant ***. But he is damn good offensive coach. As far you keep repeating he chewed his ***, he chews on every one of his coordinators.

Very reasonable post who looks at things with reason. What is funny is that the same people who talk down Kiffin will praise stoops.

I assume from your post you aren't one of those that praise Stoops. Funny thing happened on the SEC talk show the other day, the commentatare agreed you couldn't not pick Saban with this years team, but they also agreed that Stoops was their second choice.

I read that Houston recruits within a 25 mile radius of their campus. Their recruiting budget must be peanuts.

Sounds a lot like UK's recruiting budget in the recent past.

I'm not sure there was the same talent in the Lexington area though.

Wonder if this will negatively affect AL's O's performance in playoff games.

LOL. You got that right. Our recruiting budget for football was pathetic.

I think Houston was tired of guys coming in for a few years and leaving. Lane obviously has that written all over him. I think they are hoping Applewhite will be a long-term solution.

Sounds like Kiffin wouldn't budge on his huge buyout and the school wouldn't budge on theirs. Houston wanted compensation should Kiffin decide to leave and Kiffin wanted compensation should he be terminated early. Wonder what this means for Lane now? Looks like back to Bama may be his only choice.

Now changing the subject a bit, but will Alabama's guys go off of the steroids now that bowl season is upon us? Wonder if the NCAA will actually do a drug test on them.

Promoting Applewhite is a really good move.

Provides stability for the team/program and will prevent significant losses on the recruiting trail.

Houston is a great job right now with a really good foundation in place for somebody to take over and not really miss a beat. They didn't need a sexy hire or home run, they didn't need a mastermind to come remake an offense. Cougars really needed someone to just come in and not F up the gravy train, and not leave after a couple years.

Applewhite has a good football resume and pedigree having played and been an assistant at Texas as well as a brief stop in Tuscaloosa, and probably would have been pinging on radars with in the next 2-3 seasons.

It's hard to take you seriously if you can't keep up with what's happening in this decade.

He could still end up at USF but I think they take Charlie. Lane goes to LSU. Clay Travis has said Sark is having off the field troubles again. I've see some posters in this thread reference that as well.

Only way they keep Major Applewhite IF he's successful there is if they finally get a bid to be in the Big 12. Which I think Texas will now let them in since they got Tom Herman, which is the only reason they didn't get into the Big 12 this time around.
