If you ain't cheating you ain't trying. It's not about who you hire as a DC it's about the players. I could coach a better defense than what we had this year but I'm gonna need about 15 million to get "my" players.
Wealthiest guy I know personally, just guessing somewhere between 50 and 100 million net worth based on his real estate holdings, is a guy you would not peg as being rich. Doesn’t flaunt his 5000 square foot lake house. Most people don’t know about his house in Colorado. Owns a farm in Iowa that he’s never even seen, just rents the land to a farmer. Has a hunting camp that he hunts one week per year with his buddies from high school. Bought the suit for his daughters wedding at the thrift store. If we go out to eat he drinks water unless it’s my turn to buy and then he might drink a beer or two. Called me a couple of weeks ago wanting to know if I had tire tools to break down a tractor tire because he wasn’t going to pay the tire store to fix a flat. Wealthy people don’t get that way giving money away.As I often pointed out to my kids, if that guy has a $100k car and makes $100k a year while I have a $30k car and make $100k a year, who has more money?
Honestly, I have real doubts that Mississippi State has the leadership either at the school or among the top boosters to ever fix this.Gee... I wish we were as good as Ole Miss.
I am sure we can fix this overnight.
The pearl-clutching is getting ridiculous.
How is it not true? They are raking in transfers from SEC schools, even Alabama.Do
Not true! Some of yall give OM way more credit than they deserve.
Bingo. Pragmatic and thrifty result in football games that are similar in atmosphere to a wake.Small minded. And convinced we're the smart ones despite all evidence to the contrary. We literally see right before our eyes just 90 miles away how to run a football program in a small poor state, and continue to do the opposite.
Don’t worry, Libby is tampering with the vast reserve of FCS schoolsView attachment 725294
In the past, you would expect the hammer to come down.
Ya'll need to quit with this fake news crap, and trying to find someone to blame. Cohen just told ya'll the truth. He also helped get the BI started. Ya'll are just mad that you root for a poor(er) school (than our SEC peers). Our first attempt at a collective prioritized baseball. Cohen and Leach spent the first year and half of NIL talking out of both sides of their mouth on the issue, mostly telling our fans that NIL was unsustainable and stupid. God bless Charlie Winfield but he felt like he had to start the Bulldog Initiative because a year into this nobody else was doing jack squat for us on the NIL front.
Ole Miss has never not cheated.View attachment 725294

When has this ever worked for us? I'm convinced we would get put on probation, even now in this era.Bingo. Pragmatic and thrifty result in football games that are similar in atmosphere to a wake.
Buying stud players, bragging about on social media, winning home games and hyping up the tailgating and town.... means a party every weekend.
I think they also know that, like 2024, 2025 is a prime year for them with that schedule. They were ready for this new era. We were not.
Hear me out......think about 1980s MSU football.....terrible....what were commodity prices doing to the farming industry back then? TANKED the Ag industry.....now thing about commodity prices and the Ag industry right now? and current state of MSU football....my theory is they are related....OM has billionaires and millionaires giving in this new era. State does not.
When you say in the same breath “hey give us money for this” and also “this thing we want your money for is unsustainable and not gonna work”, that is talking out of both sides of your mouth. And a questionable fundraising strategy for a school like us that clearly has to work harder to fundraise than some others.Ya'll need to quit with this fake news crap, and trying to find someone to blame. Cohen just told ya'll the truth. He also helped get the BI started. Ya'll are just mad that you root for a poor(er) school (than our SEC peers).

Mississippi State AD Cohen voices frustrations over current NIL state
Mississippi State AD John Cohen lambasted the current state of NIL legislation in college athletics while admitting all MSU can do is try to keep up in the bidding war.www.sportsbusinessjournal.com
Our fanbase just hated Cohen for pretty dumb reasons. He tried to do things differently, ya'll hated him for it. Perhaps it was time for him to leave and then get a true fundraiser in here. But we've tossed out everything we learned about doing things against the grain, while not doing great at fundraising.
I would much rather focus on that than on how good Ole Miss is.Honestly, I have real doubts that Mississippi State has the leadership either at the school or among the top boosters to ever fix this.
Fair point, but I don't think we SHOULD be out begging our middle class fans to donate. I think that has to be born by the rich folks. We have a smaller fanbase, our small amounts just aren't going to add up. I've been through this whole thing before, back when it was the BDC that we were supposed to donate towards. When you say in the same breath “hey give us money for this” and also “this thing we want your money for is unsustainable and not gonna work”, that is talking out of both sides of your mouth. And a questionable fundraising strategy for a school like us that clearly has to work harder to fundraise than some others.
Cohen had every right to dislike NIL. But don’t do it publicly when you’re trying to encourage people to give to it.
He was an asshat !Ya'll need to quit with this fake news crap, and trying to find someone to blame. Cohen just told ya'll the truth. He also helped get the BI started. Ya'll are just mad that you root for a poor(er) school (than our SEC peers).

They certainly clamor for the limelight, get it and fail in front of it often. I hope it continues, but honestly, I mostly want us to field a competitive team at some point, even if ESPN keeps on forgetting our graphic, mascot, whatever...They may not have accomplished much on the field but their name was out there on every cfb show or discussion. People know the Ole Miss name. People know Oxford. This gets students to their campus and top athletes to at least look at them. We’ve acted like publicity doesn’t matter but it does. In today’s world publicity matters as much if not more than results.
Correct. So if everyone can legally do NIL, they are probably onto the next NIL+cheating too scheme. If you think we are behind just because of NIL...Ole Miss has never not cheated.
They clearly tamper with everyone. They get guys to commit on the spot more than any other school. No telling what they're doing over there.
Ultimately, his "people skills" are what made it easy to dislike anything else he did.He was an asshat !
To get as many guys to commit right away, they must be showing them their future girlfriends as well.Correct. So if everyone can legally do NIL, they are probably onto the next NIL+cheating too scheme. If you think we are behind just because of NIL...
Who are the OM billionaires?OM has billionaires and millionaires giving in this new era. State does not.
I won't deny that. Which is why he's a pretty good fit at Auburn, who has plenty of money but the boosters need to be kept in their place. At MSU, our folks get in their feels if you don't kiss their asss.Ultimately, his "people skills" are what made it easy to dislike anything else he did.
Yeah, why should we do things that have been successful at other schools? Much better to be doing things the Mississippi State way and floundering to 2-10. **Our people (as evidenced by this thread) think we should use the same policies as Auburn and Ole Miss, which is flawed.
Uhh, we scratched the niche offense and a lot of good players, so we could run a mainstream offense which needs the best players. But we don't have the money to buy the best players, yet we somehow think we still can. This actually has been confirmed to me recently from a handler of a couple players who are in the portal.Yeah, why should we do things that have been successful at other schools? Much better to be doing things the Mississippi State way and floundering to 2-10. **
Only one I know of is Dickie Scruggs, Lynn Spruill’s BFFWho are the OM billionaires?
Yep.Pete Golding is probably the best recruiter in the business. He's a well above average DC, too
Post tort reform, the number of UM attorneys sitting around just flush with cash is not what it once was. However, their fanbase drinks every bit of Koolaid offered by the University and are willing to spend money on the idea of some past perceived greatness being returned. The funny thing about it is that this year and next year's schedules are something Vaught would be proud of but they still can't seem to get over the hump of national significance. It seems most of our loaded alums build academic buildings not athletic ones, at least that's how it looks to me.Only one I know of is Dickie Scruggs, Lynn Spruill’s BFF
So do you have a link where Leach said collecting nil was stupid ? Got news for you the Coachs job isn’t to raise nil funds, most universities have staffs that do that affiliated with the AD dept. Our first attempt at a collective prioritized baseball. The Ole Miss network has always been more organized than ours, that predates NIL and is not a hot take. When this all became legal, it didn’t take much for them to jump right into the swing of it.
I would say you can’t be this misinformed but you have a long history of cluelessness so carry on.View attachment 725294

Or perhaps they saw enough of him this fall to opt out of a bidding war.Evidently BAMA was not either…
I guess that's why Byrne is bltching to high hell about it, eh hot tub?Or perhaps they saw enough of him this fall to opt out of a bidding war.
Another one that doesn’t understand the landscape. Not surprising from someone who thought expansion was a hoax.I guess that's why Byrne is bltching to high hell about it, eh hot tub?
The guy was only a 5 star offered by everyone, and played in all 12 games as a true freshman.
He was also given very little choice after his childish antics at Alabama. It was basically, give her what she wants or she was gone. He’s good at what he does but he is just another typical Oxford scum bag. But hey, he winsHe ain't leaving them. Unless it's for a HC position. His wife is a reb and from there
Are u six packers serious? The title of this thread is one of the better oxymorons ever published. Poor Alabama?? Ole Miss is playing the game guys, plain and simple. Alabama and LSU had a pass for years. They wrote the textbook and if you ever got to close to their recruiting success someone from the NCAA would come down and slap your a** into a 3 - 5 year funk.View attachment 725294

I don’t think he ever literally called it stupid but it was pretty clear he was not a fan of the structure at that time. Bigger point is that our NIL messaging for 18 months was more complaining than anything else.So do you have a link where Leach said collecting nil was stupid ? Got news for you the Coachs job isn’t to raise nil funds, most universities have staffs that do that affiliated with the AD dept.
What you are doing is making up things to try to blame a good coach who died on the job for our current situation.I don’t think he ever literally called it stupid but it was pretty clear he was not a fan of the structure at that time. Bigger point is that our NIL messaging for 18 months was more complaining than anything else.

Mike Leach’s Ambitious Plan to Fix NIL: ‘Are You a Professional or Are You Not?’
The Mississippi State coach says it’s time to give players a choice—and let the sport embrace a pro model. But is it viable?www.si.com
Is this a trick question? He has a $100k asset and a contingent income of 100K over the next year. You have a 30K asset and a contingent income of 100 over the next year. He currently has $70K more than you. What am I missing? As I often pointed out to my kids, if that guy has a $100k car and makes $100k a year while I have a $30k car and make $100k a year, who has more money?
