I know Asheville played us very well last year. I think we was there last loss until they lost in the 2nd round to Mallard Creek.

Not quite the same team as last year, but playing KM should make us better...I hope
This years Asheville team is better. Even with replacing who you replaced. Coverage is good. D-line is good. And for you to have new backers, they are filling the role perfectly fine. Robbinsville beating you by 22 at Robbinsville was no fluke. To come back the next year and beat them shows signs of improvement. Robbinsville has some kinks to work out but Overall, I’m very pleased with the start to the year for us. I know I’d be one of just a hand full but I can honestly see Asheville winning this. I don’t have them winning but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did.

I don’t think we have ever lost in Cleveland county.
I don’t think we have ever won at home against a Cleveland county team.
Kings mountain should be favored here

Kings mountain 20 asheville 6. I picked against the cougars last week but I don’t see them winning this. Kings mountain coming off a big Shelby win.

Is KMHS affiliated with NFHS or another video broadcast. Where can I listen to it online. I know WNC Sports net will be there.

I hope Asheville can pull the upset but I don’t see KM losing their home opener coming off that big win. Asheville will make them work for it I guarantee that.
KM is a really good team and can make a deep run but I also think Shelby took a step back from last year, especially defensively. They can be beat but like you said, I don’t see them losing their first game at home.

I HOPE we make this a good game. We have enough talent to give kings mountain all they want. As usual, turnovers will play a big part. I thought our freshman QB was exceptional last week in his first varsity game going 14 of 21 for 197 yards 1 td and 0 ints. He’s going to be big time in a few years. Kings mountain will be favored as they should be, but we hopefully we will get their attention.

Robbinsville moved the ball pretty well most of the game against Asheville and the Black Knights are pretty one dimensional on offense being completely run dominant. Robbinsville actually outgained Asheville in yardage for the game. This KM team is a different animal. Asheville’s young qb will not have all day to sit in the pocket tonight and Asheville defense will need to defend the whole field to have a chance.

KM is really good but I wouldn’t say a different animal. The defensive line is fast and good but I wouldn’t say the entire defense is. Offensively I think KM is a willing passing team but not great at it. The coach can draw up some good plays to get people open but the Wrs aren’t just flat out great. They had a great win last week but I expected it because Shelby lost a lot. I don’t see them losing to Asheville at all though.

We will have to agree to disagree. I guess the last 3 out of 4 times that KM has beaten Shelby something was wrong with Shelby also lol? KM is a different animal from Robbinsville. KM is offensively more balanced and present some challenges to opposing defenses. KM has some great athletes at wide receiver that you are not aware of just like most were not aware of Curtis Simpson and crew on the d-line. One receiver got behind a fast Shelby secondary and the other ran through about five Shelby tackles. Coaches can’t draw up speed, desire, and physicality. By the way KM was 14/20 passing for 221yds and 4 td’s. Not bad for a team that’s not great at passing.
The KM defense was going up against a great Shelby offense with the team’s best linebacker and a key d-line member missing. KM is young in some spots on defense but they will be fine. Playing a team like Shelby will show you what you need to work on.
Asheville’s offense is nowhere near what Shelby’s offense is. The defense will get better as some of the newer starters get some game time under their belt. Also KM was facing Shelby not the sisters of the poor. The Golden Lions do have a player or two on their side of the ball also.

I’m just going off of what I see not stats. I don’t think any wr or db on the team stands out as great. I said I don’t think Asheville will beat KM but the things I pointed out may not show up until later in the year when it matters cause I don’t think there’s many teams that can take advantage of it. Again KM is a really good team, just giving an unbiased opinion on the team.

Told you Shelby just not the same this year but it was a combination of KM being legit and them taking a step back. KM the best team I’ve seen so far in 3A though so it looks like it may be their year!!!!

Well, we’ve been waiting on this.
The perfect teaching moment.

We will stretch a little, but not really.
The point will be made.
The point we have made for decades.

Chambers played “up” this week. They lost.
Hough played “up” last week. They lost.
Mallard Creek played “up” this week. Lost.
Weddington played “up” this week. Lost.
Dudley played “up” this week. They lost.
Shelby played “up” this week. They lost.
Reidsville played “up” this week. They lost.

The top teams in the State, across classifications, played “up” this week (or last), and they all lost.
But every losing coach will tell you, it will make them better….for the season.
The loss will expose the weaknesses, with time to correct or adjust to them.

“So what?”, you ask. Most understand that, correct?
No, they don’t.
We have had the biggest arguments and most aggressive abuse trying to make this point, primarily to the 4A crowd, but also to 3A and 2A folks as well. Play “up”, it will make you better. “But 4A can’t play “up” “, they said.
They just did. And lost.
Powerful Indy, at their finest, played “up” in Ohio. And lost.

Some thought, play it safe, schedule cupcakes for non conference, go undefeated, and you will get the highest seeds, and now, perhaps a bye.
Some still think that way.
It is past time for strength of schedule to be considered in year end seeding.
We will not hold our breath.
But finally, many are starting to see the great value there is in scheduling non conference play against a team that may be better than you.

Want more proof?

There is a high school football program in NC that has been playing “up” forever.
Many years, 40% of their schedule has been against teams from higher classes. Some years, it was over 50%. Many years, including this year,
scheduled teams 2 classes “up”.
That program has won more games and more State Titles in the last 60 years than any other.
They have won 92% of games within their class.
The closest other program of any class is at 80%.
But in only 3 of those seasons were they undefeated.

Now you know why.
