If he can find great assistants it will be a great hire, because he will use the Saban model to recruit.

My guess is the first two years are steps back and then the team puts together a playoff run and a conference title.

Georgia sits in the middle of a recruiting hotbed. They've never lacked recruiting. I can't remember the last time they have had a recruiting class not in the top 15, though usually they are a top 10 class.

I would think this hire would make most Georgia fans thrilled. Not sure you could have reasonably asked for more. There's no Harbaugh out there this year, and Smart has been labeled as somebody's next H.C. for a while now, Georgia is lucky to have gotten him and Smart can win there right freaking now.

it is an "n" of 1 but the Dantonio hire by MSU is turning out to be brilliant

He did not have much of a resume and many on here would have been cursing the hire at Neb
record at Cincinnati 18-17 and 11-11 in conference
now one of the top coaches in football

Outside of Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh and maybe a few others - 99% of coaching hires are a crap shoot - ask Texas
you try to make the best hire possible and reeval in 5 years -- Nebraska now and in the future isn't going to attract any sure things from the coaching ranks - I don't think we are going to attract a highly succesful coach from another power 5 school. Many speculated David Shaw at Stanford was in the mx during our coaching search - don't think he was a serious candidate or a coach in a similar position would jump ship to Neb in the future

Exactly. That is how Saban pulls so many studs proximity with success. He wasn't Saban until he started getting the elite kids to stay close to home. It will be if the assistants can coach them to their max potential

Hmmm...why didn't they go after an experienced head coach?
His resume FAR exceeds Frost's. That is why Frost got a 0-12 UCF job and Smart gets a perennial 10 win Georgia job. Not hard to figure out. Frost however gets a job in a fertile talent area where the only way to go is up. Great first job for Scott. IF he wins at UCF he'll get looks from major programs.
