Kirk Herbstreit believes that #Rutgers Football is a dark horse to make the College Football Playoff.

"Rutgers has a schedule that by Big Ten standards and this world that we’re in, they can make a little bit of a run.”

As I said when posting Herb's dark-horse article in A;s greatest team thread.
Looks like Herb read what Al has to say about this year's team and agrees wit Al
Also looks like Herb is catching flack like Al does when he talks about how good he thinks Rutgers football is 😉

KH has never ever talked about RU the way delusional does…as in ever! In fact he’s probably never spoken about Ohio State or Bama that way either.

I honestly don’t see his comment as truly calling Rutgers a “dark horse contender for playoff”. He mentions that he thinks a favorable schedule is a big part of it and then mentions that “someone like Rutgers” who has that. It’s not a strong endorsement or claim. It’s more like we have the right circumstances setup for us.

sad to see you're jealous of the attention Al is getting , but I'll give you credit for parroting Al's type optimism in that thread.
Al is a legend on every board he enters and now the national media has sit up and taken notice of him.
Fear not you can brag about being a Al clone in that thread you posted a link to and you do call some things right. Which might help you be able to claim legend status here.
If you want it, take it. I won't complain if you claim to be a TKR legend .
If that makes you feel good: goferit !

I have made good guesses as well, but am scared to remind people about it, they might reply with all the guesses I was wrong about.
Though I doubt anyone would keep track of them.
Just like I don't keep track of the wrong guesses others make.

But Al is constantly telling people how good Rutgers is and now the national media is parroting his thoughts .
Good for Al to have that happening and Plum you can brag about being smart enough to have followed the example Al had set , so many times before, when you started that playoff thread

With all these types of threads, nobody should take issue with Rutgers Al's posts anymore...

I don’t see them as the same. Being a dark horse means we are a long shot with a non-zero chance to surprise people. That’s a very different way of positioning the outlook than saying “10 wins should be the bare minimum and anything less would be a big disappointment”.

I wouldn’t say the media is following Al’s lead. They are just saying what we already know. The schedule sets up a big opportunity. We don’t have to play the best teams in the conference so we avoid automatic losses. Thats far from saying we should easily win a minimum of 10 games and anything less would be a big disappointment.

Some of you really have problems with reading comprehension.

Let me briefly summarize the difference between statements made by Al and Kirk Herbstreit:

AL = “RU is more talented than Ohio State and Alabama and is going to win the National Championship”.

Kirk Herbstreit on Rutgers chances to make the playoffs =

Spot the difference?

Sorry but you’re the one with comprehension issues, because I didn’t post that Rutgers was going to win a National Championship and also didn’t post that Rutgers had more talent than Ohio State. In fact, I didn’t mention Ohio State at all.

You are correct- if someone is going to call you out, they need to be factual.
While I may not agree with you on who we have more talent than, you did not say OSU. It was clearly, ND, Bama and USC.

“More talent than Ohio Stae and Alabama “

No less delusional but thx for the pointless clarification.

Obviously they are technically different, but they have the same tone and similar levels of possibly unfounded optimism...

Disagree.

Saying we have more talent than Alabama and will the national championship is silly, delusional, inaccurate and is made just to get attention

Herbstreets comment (like a few other pundits) are basically saying that there is a CHANCE that if all things break right RU could POSSIBLY do something special. and that possibility is, in part, due to the fact we dont have 3 automatic losses (OSU, PSU and Mish) on the schedule - meaning we have an "easier" schedule in Big10 terms than we have had in the past.

Regardless, the very fact that people like herbstreit are saying this is HUGE and is certainly proof that RU is getting some respect (that as recently as this time last year would never have been said). This is great stuff!!! But it is FAR different than delusionAL’s post

Okay, cool. And I hope both Al and Bradstreet, or whatever his name is, are correct.

Go Rutgers...

maybe not, but I bet many here wish they did.
No one should be happy Al's predictions didn't come true, not really something to gloat about.
But now it seems, the national media is picking up on Al's optimistic RU outlook and looking at RU Football in a positive light.
I can't say for a fact Al predicted something like that, but would guess in one of his positive messages covering the state of RU football Al might have implied the media would soon be Rutgers fans 😊

What you said is also very different from what Al said. It’s a bold prediction mainly because it requires front end success. And you never called anything less than 10 wins a big disappointment. You also acknowledged that there’s an element of luck involved and certain things would have to go our way to line up.

My issue with what Al does is he puts a thread out there as a target for the hate Schiano crew to bump and build on if we fall short. If we go 8-4 the program is still moving in the right direction and there should be no such talk.

The media is not saying what Al said. Not one person other than Al said 10 wins should be Rutgers’ floor. Not even close to that.

exactly my point - people trying to draw parallels between Al's and Herbstreits comments .....simply..... cannot read.

but again, the fact we are getting some respect. love it.

fact is: the "media" is all over the place with comments about our upcoming season. didnt College Football News predict 5 wins!?!

we certainly have a number of things on our side:
  • an "easier" schedule in Big10 terms particularly compared to our usual slate of the big3 in the East;
  • a very solid D returning most;
  • a solid OL,
  • a very good RB corps,
  • a MUCH improved WR corps; and
  • a QB that (if given time and with talent to hand-off or throw to) can at least be serviceable.
that SHOULD result in continued progress.

will it? and if so, how much progress?

or will we fall on our face?

could easily go either way.

Al has been talking up Rutgers for years.( being overly optimistic)
The national media has put down Rutgers football for years ( for good reason)
The doom and gloomers have ruled the roost because Rutgers was pretty darn bad since Schiano(1) left and even when Flood had winning years very few were happy about the program he ran.

Now Rutgers is getting national praise and it seems since Al was made a part of that ( because of his posting how good Rutgers is this season all over the Rivals message boards and only God knows where else ( maybe in every church, synagogue , mosque or temple's bulletin board) and people here are making a big deal on how I (maybe more then just me) are having a bit of fun putting Al as the cause of the positive coverage Rutgers is getting now by a national media personality .

I expect to see the Star Ledger pick up on the Al hate and post how the RU fanbase doesn't feel people like Al ( meaning overly optimistic fans) deserve to have a say because they raise the expectations for how the season will be.

Before every RU season from the Bateman/ Burns HC era to Greg2 now:
I expect ( before the season starts) the Scarlet Knight football program to prove Championship material, then temper my hopes as the season progresses. But try to look for the good, even when the bad rules the day as it had ( most of the time) since RU started playing a big boy schedule.

Lighten up and don't take everything so serious, have fun expressing your hopes for what type of season RU will have this tear and how the national media looks at the 2024 RU FB program .

As for RUAl, keep it up you have brought light during the times only darkness could be seen.
Now the nation is starting to see the light you shine on Rutgers

if you actually read my post you'll see that I literally provided a bulleted list of reasons to be positive about this upcoming season. no one here, particularly me, is putting RU down. I'm quite positive for the numerous reasons I stated.

but I still maintain that its simply silly to draw any parallels between Al's delusion and positivity from those like Herbstreit - they are not even remotely saying the same thing

but if anyone is taking this way too seriously its you with your manifesto ;) wow - a lot of words.

As for my message being long winded: it's been said that a person of Irish heritage never puts out a short story when he/she can turn out a novel about any subject 😁
As for " my manifesto" you might see it that way, I see it as explaining the way I feel and why I feel that way.😇

But red team, I offer you my sincere apologies for having your name as someone I was replying to instead of everyone in this thread .
I started out that way by hitting the quote and reply link, but thinking about the list of reasons to be positive you posted, I felt it would be wrong to do that and should generalize my reply to be for everyone .
I cut out what you said, but didn't notice your handle was left in my reply and that was a dumb mistake by me
( you must admit even my apology is long winded , but the apology is something I feel you deserve)

No worries. It’s all good

Didn’t think an apology was necessary. But even if it was… apologies on social media are rare. So kudos to you.

[just to be clear - no sarcasm meant or implied in my post … sometimes these things need to be stated as tone is usually lost in written posts]
