Lack of TE usage

Seems like pass plays to the TE's are almost non existent.

We grabbed a very good TE from the Portal and he doesn't do much but run block. I thought we would use Bowman quite a bit in the passing game.
Langan has been thrown to a few times but only a few yards from the line of scrimmage.

We used Langan a lot week 1. Just gotta see what the defense gives you. I admit I'm surprised we haven't used Bowman more. He's huge and can create big mismatches against LBs. Especially in the red zone.

Bowman, Langan and Konopka have been non existent. Konopka is such a mismatch for defenders. I hope they develop him especially in short yardage and goal line packages. Kid knows how to use his body due to his basketball background.

Last night was different because they stacked the box consistently throughout the game and we needed extra blockers....we still ran them over!!
If you stack the box makes it much easier to sneak the Tight End out for a simple drag, dump or stop route.

Would have been open all night which would have opened up the running lanes.

Passing to WRs?? What a revelation.

OC KC has greatly surpassed my fears so far.
The lack of multipe TEs all over the field and using actual WRs has been a great relief.

Has GW been sacked yet this year? Has there been a 2 game stretch over the last 10 years with that stat? Keeping the TE in might have something to do with that.

Welcome to Schiano ball
When OL is weak (every year) the TE becomes an OL
Ask DC Jefferson and Tyler Kroft about that

Kroft had a breakout year in 2013 with 43 recptions, 675 yds and 4 TDs
Everybody knew the kid could catch real well and had a shot at a pro career
But no no couldn't have that
In 2014 he had 270 yds and 0 TDs - he was made a blocker
Keep in mind this was on a team with a horrible red zone every year.
Make sure to keep that NFL TE away from red zone TDs - we need blockers
No great TE recruit would want RU

Also Wimsatt moves around in the pocket extremely well.

Who was the HC for both of those years? And why the discrepancy when it was the same coach?

Ian Strong is a great red zone threat at 6’4”.

I watched the replay on dvr this morning and Johnny is very involved in blocking on most plays, he is also the chief cheerleader on the field and he looks to have a special bond with Gavin. He is a very heads up player who knows what to do and where to be on every play

Flood was playing with Schiano recruits and neither one of them could get a good OL after the aughties.
2010 OL was worst in the nation. Flood trained on Schiano ball. He wasn't an offensive mastermind, Nova could throw 4 INTs and stay in - a trait shared with Schiano. The home crowed had to boo before Schiano would put Dodd in at USF (and he won the fame ). Every year RU was so full of WRs, RBs and ATHs that it was hard to find uses for them (Deering). But OL recuiting was usually pretty flat on the whole. TEs were OLs for most part

Schiao coached under Butch Davis where the strategy was to use an attacking defense to cause turnovers. Then on defense they minimized turnovers. That's the Schiano model. He loves to roll the dice on offense (worked less well vs spreads) but sees offensive players as liabilities - that's GS's training and conditioning. He earned his career treating them that way. The Butch model doiesnt work anymore. Stunts on defense can backfire and offenses need a pass catching TE. Schiano is a Rex Ryan baking half a cake

I’ve been harping for years we needed good TE’s to bolster the passing game, we finally have them & what do you know we haven’t used them much at all yet, if the TE’s get involved , everything will open up & those Linebackers will have their hands full.

But the 2013 & 2014 lines were definitely not the worst in the nation. 2014 in particular. The 2011 and 2012 OL recruiting classes were some of the strongest RU has had

Our TEs covered up by LBs this week. This allowed all of those swing passes to be wide open.

The TEs ran multiple routes outside in, essentially clogging the middle of the field. Temples LBs could not get out into the flat because they had to cover the LB.

Offensive schemes are team level reads. No one says the TE is running this route throw it here. Temple covered the TEs and the check downs were insanely open.
