Saturday night several bikes were stolen from the Astana team competing in the Tour of California. One of the bikes stolen was Lance Armstrong's time trial bike. When interviewed about it Armstrong said, "I don't see how anyone could think they could get away with it. It's the only bike like it in the world. If the guy wants to just keep it in his bedroom and never let anyone see it, then good for him. But if he shows it to anyone, word will get out and he'll be caught."
After the opening time trial and the first stage, Armstrong is in 5th place overall. His teammate's Levi Leipheimer, Chris Horner, and Chechu Rubiera are in 2nd, 6th, and 7th respectively. The team goal is to get a repeat win for Leipheimer in this event. In just a few years, this event has become one of the better ones in the world, attracting many of the top European riders and teams.
