Was told Friday it looked like he would get the job. Kind of surprising Williams left. It's a good school and all, but his family and his wife's family are all in Rankin County.

Saw and talked to his mother a few weeks ago, she taught my youngest daughter in elementary school years ago.

I actually just recently found out that Kent & Dede are his parents. I've known them for years. Good people.

I don’t get it either, at least Pogue. A lot of folks are praising it but he won’t have good luck playing smash mouth football at Brandon.
He coached Cliff Davis at Eupora so he has some experience with passing quarterbacks.

He was so close to leading the Eagles to a 2A title over Taylorsville in ‘02.

Do you realize how toxic Brandon sports are? Especially football.
My son played football at Brandon and the amount of control certain parents have over the sports is on same level as many of the small private schools. We might not be talking about the same toxin this is just what I saw. They have athletes walking around campus that don't play because no matter how hard they played or how good they were they were not getting on the field. Their parents had no influence. This usually took place in the 9th and 10th grade years. So, they just stop playing or transfer to another school in Rankin County. They could do it because they had an aunt or another family member living in the other school zone. Brandon could have multiple state championship in every sport, but they seem to always fall short.

Well he’s got a good core. A rising junior QB and TB. No idea what else but I’m sure they are decent. This is Brandon’s best chance which is why I’m sort of surprised Williams left. At the same time those fans are absolutely nuts.

A buddy of many says the reason Flowood folks are reality normal and Highway 80 Brandon folks are bat sh*t crazy is that too many SoJack refugees moved to Brandon.

It is high school football. Who cares, except the families and coaches families.

They are a volleyball school and got lucky with a baseball championship last year.

I'm sure this happens to an extent everywhere, but some places are worse than others. Brandon is one of the worst - especially for such a suburban school with people from all over. I mean you expect some of that in small towns but generally the sheer number of people and diversity cuts down on it at the suburban places. At least as far as public school goes.

Now this tends not to matter for the elite athletes, they are going to play no matter what. So we're really just talking about the decent to above average guys who max out at high school. But even then, when they are playing second fiddle to slightly less talented players who get to play because of politics, toxicity brews. Then the parents all wonder why you don't win the big game. And I've not yet seen a football coach at Brandon who would or could stand up to it.

My nephew played on the under 18 national soccer team. They went to Europe and played. Yet he couldn't start at Brandon.

Huge difference between playing for the "national team" of your soccer club and truly playing for the real national team. Friends daughter played for a "national team" but couldn't get playing time in the Sunbelt conference and has transferred down to Division II.

Still should have been starting on the Brandon Team. The Brandon coach would only put him in when they needed a goal to win or tie. He was the leading scorer on the team his last 2 years despite not averaging 40 minutes a game. He had SEC offers but was so burned out by the coach's crap that he didn't want to play any more.

SEC doesn't play men's soccer. Exceptions are Kentucky and South Carolina play in Sunbelt Conference.

Lot of people get fooled by club/travel/tournament marketing for sure. I used to have parents of kids on my team (12 and under) call me and say hey Little Johnny got invited to play the Perfect Game blah blah bluh blah blah in Florida. Isn’t it great? They must have heard about his last tournament!!! Only a $350 entry fee!!11

Then the ones who win a “state championship” 2-day tournament and they really believe they are the best team in the state.

Hwy 80 Brandon residents are like State fans, they hate everything and stay in a constant state of complaint.
you guys are smoking deep fried dick. I live and work in Brandon every day. I’m in and out of multiple houses a day in the metro area and none of this true… well maybe the south Jackson refugees, but Jesus Christ it ain’t nothing like Pearl, Richland, or Florence.

I'll assure you Lance won't put up with any of that. If someone from the admin tried to pressure him, he'd leave in the middle of practice and head back to Tomnolen. If a parent tried to pressure him, he'd have the parent running wind sprints.

Brandon is a fine town. But the sports culture is very political.

Yep. If you’ve got the money, there’s a spot for your kid. And there’s a “national” tournament in Florida every week, in multiple sports.

Way too much Travel Ball for many or most. Hey, my grandson played on some elite travel ball teams, he pitched at Msu and he is doing great in the minor leagues so far. But I have another grandson who has played way too much travel ball and is still in high school, but I can see he is about burned out. Too many parents living their kids dreams and don't see the real potential of their kids potential whether good or bad.

Haha, this reminds me of a coworker I had many years ago. Her son was a kicker at Clinton HS team the same time as Brian Hazelwood, she swore her son was better than Hazelwood (one of the best ever to kick in the 'Sip), the coach just wouldn't give him a chance.

Hah. I made a comment on 247 back in the day about him struggling to run quality passing attacks, and he sent me a DM with his number wanting to meet up. Gonna fight somebody who criticized his coaching online.

He should thrive in Brandon.
