does he not have the kind of talent that can overcome no experience? Anyone know?

Does mullen allow him to suit up and serve suspension this weekend and play agaisnt LSU? Or play right away this weekend? He has the wheels just like Berry. Maybe even faster.

The answer is absolutely yes. His athleticism automatically makes him better than Marcus Washington. Maybe even experiment with him at safety. He has the natural athletic ability to cover over the top, and he cant be any worse than Zach Smith. I think if we see somewhat of a repeat this weekend on defense, we see Maurice Langston in the mix in practice.

He was the only thing Ne lauderdale had on the offense. Not that their record was great, but he is a player.

...at Arkansas State. He has two years to play 1 and 10/12ths of the games this year. However, I think he is our punt returner VERY soon. He averaged 31 yards per punt return at EMCC.

NE Lauderdale going 7-4 is like any other school in the state winning the mythical national championship. Those 2 seasons are their only 2 winning seasons in the past 18 (soon to be 19) years.

Edit to add: Suit him up tomorrow in practice and as soon as he's ready to help us win games, play him. He's already served his suspension.

This is a no brainer with the RS situation. And since Torbush has four plays, it shouldn't take him that long to learn the system. (Still pissed)

he got hurt at Ark. St. and missed all but about 2 games one year. He might have a med. redshirt to use if so.

Edited to add:
I qualified out of high school and I signed with Arkansas State. After one semester I came here and I have played two years here. I only have two years left, so I want to go somewhere I can play."

play this guy asap, why not? What do we have to loose as a program...its not like we are the UF, UA, or USC's of the world what are we trying to prove as a program by benching a guy with an obvious talent and an immediate help to our already paraplegic secondary.

Except he will be playing corner, which is what we desperately need. He should be better than any corner we have, which could improve the D more than you think, b/c you are only as good as your weakest player and that will bench one corner that sucks thus improving our D. Patdog, you are 100% correct. I'm from Meridian, but I went to MHS. Anyway, before Langston suited up for the Trojans, you would have never known they had a football program. They are 4a and usually only dress out 40 tops each year. He played qb I think for them, and I'm pretty sure defense too since they lacked players and he was so good. He was ridiculous at qb, and I think they even beat a good Wayne County team while he was there, but that might have been right after he left. Even after he was gone, he had such an impact on that program, that it made more kids wanna play which equals at least a few more athletes than they would normaly have. I'm pretty sure he was considered the best high school football player in Lauderdale county his senior year. The reason I believe he didn't go D1 was b/c he was lacking greatly in size, but I don't know anything about how his grades were, but I'm pretty sure he didn't have a D1 offer. I don't know whether or not he got taller at ECCC, but he filled out his body and became a man while maintaining his athleticism. He should definately be on the field saturday whether he know much of the D or not. It can't be that hard to memorize four plays.

Edited to add: I didn't know he went to Ark. State for a year, and I didn't see where wchsdawg compared him to Berry until after I posted.

Everyone knows we need him. And, he has essentially been serving a suspension already.

there aren't a lot of intricacies to the position - either you can cover or you can't. all he has to do is learn the zone packages. he definitely doesn't have to worry about blitzing.

this could be HUGE for our defensive backfield.

or two when busted, over a pound? Damn. Now if somehow you could sit him out for a year, whether just not being enrolled fulltime or something, if you could get it to not count against his eligibility, that would be best. He isn't going to take you to a bowl game this year, so if you could have him for two years after this, you do that if at all possible. Now if he can't sit out, you sit him out maybe this weekend then he plays the rest of the year. That would kind of be a two game suspension.

he has been indefinitely suspended until now, so that's 2 games already. Having him sit this week isn't a bad idea, but with our cornerbacks, we need all the help we can get. and come on - it's just a pound or two...

you're right in that if there's a way to have him sit the year and still have 2 to play, we should definitely do that.

so yes, you could play him this weekend without looking too bad. He may not be worth playing on two days practice anyway, so hold him out, call it a suspension and look good for it.

If at all possible to hold him out for the year, do it, if not, play him.

Also, sounds like the guy had a damn good lawyer. One pound of ganja and five years suspended after getting busted in a town where they hate MSU.

if you don't have a record, and you can get it down to only a possession charge, any lawyer could get you that deal. If they hadn't dropped the "intent to distribute", he would be doing time.
