They are hit or miss...I enjoyed Lois and Superman, Titans (don't like Peacemaker--too raunchy for my tastes), and of course Smallville kinda kicked off a new era and made shows like Arrow and the Flash successful.

Since the 20th "reboot" of the DC universe, only Supergirl has been a miss(& to be fair, that movie was fine/ok. Nothing special, but not as terrible as people make it out to be.) I loved Peacemaker & Superman. Creature Commandos on HBO is also an insanely fun/violent cartoon.

So, not great Op Sec for John to bang the woman who is probably an alien right out of the chute.

Ep 2 was good. Liking the direction of this series. I don't know the green lantern universe really, so I'm probably not picking up on lore or easter eggs, but the hospital being empty reminded me of the Scarlet Witch series where a whole town is a construct

I'm gonna guess that the manhunter is either Kerry or Zoe. Maybe the younger Macon. The older one is far too obvious.
I'm leaning more towards Zoe. If you were a manhunter why not assume the form of a sexy babe to try and pump information out of a young recruit? And, since the older Macon is seemingly okay with his wife banging other dudes, that seems like she's got some heavy power over him.

I really enjoyed the bird that John created. I loved the fight sequence where the bird kept trying to intervene, or when it kept pecking at the head of the guy holding John down before they brain waved him.
When he turned it back into particles I assumed he was showing us the tough side he'd need later. Otherwise, he just killed a little birdie for no reason.

I have a quibble over John being sacrificed to the Russians. Their guy blew up in a burst of green. Clearly a lantern intervention.
I thought it, and Mrs. Lucas said it out loud when John's mom told him to shoot the apple off of his dad's head. "Put the apple on your head".

Agree 100%. I enjoy watching Reacher on Prime but they're doing the same thing. It's difficult to watch an episode then have to wait a week for the next one. It takes me a few minutes to remember where it left off.

We had the same things back in the days before streaming but I recall it being a little different. IIRC episodes of shows like Lost in Space or Dallas reached a conclusion to whatever was going on but then teased you with a new issue to get you to come back next week.

I rolled my eyes at the racism and privilege aspects. It takes me out of the immersion the show has built. Can we not have a story about a father failing the test so him and his wife make their son a fearless badass? Lazy writing like that has ruined a lot of shows that had great potential.

They went over the top, but I did enjoy seeing that mom was the crazy one. Initially we were presented the image of the father being the crazy one shooting apples off of his son's head. Now we see it's mom's unrelenting drive at work pushing John to be a Lantern.

For sure. I’d just rather have the story of parents being complete psychopaths and pushing their son well past rational limits to obtain a goal. Instead we get parents shooting apples off his head and rationalizing it with racism.

Last night's episode was phenomenal. The Hal/Stewart chemistry really found its stride, and I laughed alot. Hal almost NEVER uses the ring; instead, he's seen as a bumbling idiot/a-hole, but we see in this episode how discerning and brilliant he actually is. He doesn't use the ring unless he absolutely HAS to. He's smart, cunning, and clever, and that was on full display.

You missed the point of this entire episode- it was about the trauma a kid is raised in, both internally and externally. His parents essentially abused him, all for his "destiny" and justified it with legitimate aspects of the Black experience in America.

It doesn't negate the abuse nor the systemic racism inherent in America, but instead was focusing on how one kid was affected by both.

The show continues to be absolutely brilliant and nuanced.

It thought John Stewart Sr. had what it took but he admitted to being scared when he was pulled out of his bed into a glowing green construct without warning. I think that's a feasible reason to be scared. He regretted it and hated himself because he could have been the Green Lantern, which is probably the highest achievement any human could reach. On top of that, nobody, including his wife believed what he was saying. Of course he's going to be extra angry. Then they find out their son has what it takes to be the next Green Lantern so John Stewart Sr. and his wife snap and become completely obsessed with pushing their son well past rational limits so he can have a chance at becoming the next Green Lantern on Earth.

Instead, they veer away from that and try to make it a race thing. To me, that's lazy writing with a political agenda. I don't like that in the shows I'm watching. Just my opinion.

I could see it being the mom for the reasons stated. For those knowledgeable with the comics, can a shapeshifter give birth to a human? Or, for that matter, impregnate a human?*

I’m going to partially disagree. While obviously there was and is a whole bunch of racism in America (and the world), the dad had a natural human reaction to aliens visiting him and levitating him out of bed in a green glow. They then set upon a campaign to make their son inhuman in having no fear. All of the privilege discussion in the show did not advance the plot and was gratuitous political commentary (much of which I actually agree with).

so far is it not a shock and awe type of super hero show. When there is something like that it is usually sudden and kind of unexpected. Most of it is dialogue.

I love that Hal almost never uses the ring. He's essentially only used it defensively thus far, and while presenting as a bumbling as shole, its clear he's super smart and clever and prefers to problem solve through wit rather than brawn. I think the end of ep 4 really showcases this.

The writing has really really been fantastic.

I liked this episode a lot. John and Hal get laid bare. Rushville gets what it deserved for harboring the space fugitive. The Guardians continue to be exposed.

Liking it, but I have to pocket the traditional storyline since they're taking some liberties. For one, Hal voluntarily gives up the Green Lantern mantle in Green Lantern #182 and John steps into the full-time role. So, ya, John is obviously Hal's replacement, but it wasnt' a hostile take-over "I'm taking your ring from you" situation.

It's weird, though as they seemed to have nailed the actor based on the cartoon version.
