Just looked at both schools commits and noticed this disparity with in-state recruits. Mullen seems to like to keep things close to home.

One thing will come of this-we'll find out if Mississippi high school football talent is good are not.
Apparently, Nutt and Co. seem to think otherwise.

initial conference that Mississippi will be his focus. Getting athletes to stay here is important to him. And the most obvious thing is Croom already had inroads on a lot of the recruits already.

Next year, the Cotton Bowl trophy is going to draw in-state recruits to Mississippi like moths to a flame.

This time next year, Mullen will be lucky to sign Delta State rejects.

I read that somewhere on the internet, so it has to be true.

It certainly means Mullen has literally embarrassed Nutt as far as in-state recruiting.

I don't know if that will translate into more wins for MSU over the coming years, but there is no spinning the fact that, when it comes to in-state recruiting this year, Mullen (and Croom, who also gets some credit) has taken Nutt behind the woodshed.

He is just saying that Mullen is making a point to get recruits out of MS, when in reality can you really call this Mullen's class I wouldn't.

I think Mullen said that MS had more pro players per capita.

I don't think that's a bad thing. But I think it looks bad for an in-state school to get so lopsidely out-recruited in its own back yard.

Mullen has done an excellent job of keeping the in-state Croom recruits while supplimenting in his own picks. I do think the disparity will be lessened next year (we will get a few more in-state recruits) but seems like historically yall get more of the local guys no matter the previous year's success.</p>

actually has only 5 from MS because Jamar Hornsby is from Florida not from Scooba!
He is the guy who stole his dead friends credit card and ran up 700 dollars worth of stolen gas. Classy guy perfect fit for the red and blue.
And for all those red pants wearing homos who think they out recruited us, OM has 23 3 star guys State has 14 but we do have 8 4 star guys compared to Ole Miss only 1.
14+8= 22 for all you Rebels who are obsessed with MSU.
I would take 8 4star guys over one any day.
You take those 23 from Ole Miss vs our 22 and we will hit them in the face with our cowbells.

But as of today according to Rivals, MSU has seven 4* and sixteen 3*. UM has five 4* and twenty 3*. More of your stars come from Mississippi than ours. Congratulations.

Croom dominated Orgeron and Nutt on Mississippi recruits.

Do you really think Cameron Lawrence is as good of a player as one of the top safeties out of Texas or Florida?

There are some good players in MS this year, but as a whole it isn't very deep, unlike Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Tennessee.

MSU and OM cannot go into Alabama, Ga, FL, or LA and get the states best player, but MSU and OM can get the top player in MS. If you want to win at MSU and OM you have to recruit MS hard, that is not to say that you go to FL, GA, TX, or other states and pull kids out, but for the most part you have to recruit MS. Nutt is not doing himself any favors with MS HS coaches by recruiting so much out of state. Say what you want, but building relationships with HS coaches is very important, because they are the ones that are going to let you on campus to see there players. Whose to say which method will work, but history is a good indicator for the future, and from 1997-2003 MSU and OM both won and went to bowl games, and those rosters where made up of MS players.

to the woodshed...actually we were already there following the Egg Bowl!! Hopefully we got a few licks in on Nutt before he left. THE OBVIOUS VOID in this class is Offfensive Lineman...I don't care how many 3, 4, or 5 stars we have if we don't have a line that can block...well we know!!!! Put the Kool-Aid down and shear off your wooly coat!!!</p>

why people bust on Cameron Lawrence so much? I don't expect him to be the nexy John Lynch or anything, but he was Dandy Dozen.

Hopefully this class that is marginally better than our's can make up a 45 point deficit. Without any O-linemen don't count on it though.

No. But you're not getting any of the top safeties or players out of Texas or Florida. You are getting the big boys' rejects. And yes I believe Cameron Lawrence, as a top 12 player in Mississippi, is as good as a recruit that the big schools didn't want in Texas or Florida.

See, this is where that whole "per capita" thing comes into play.

Texas - 24 million people
Florida - 18 million people
Mississippi - 3 million people

So, Texas has 8 times as many people as Mississippi, and Florida has 6 times as many people, so the gross numbers are still WAY in their favor. Using some numbers I found, these are the number of NFL players from each state:

Florida - 187
Texas - 181
Missisissippi - 49

Using those numbers, Texas and Florida produce about 3.5 times as much talent as the state of Mississippi. So, if you can find 20 SEC quality athletes in Mississippi, you're likely to find 70 in Florida and 70 in Texas. The big schools in those states can't sign them all. They can only sign 25, and they don't sign exclusively from their home state.

You could definitely make the argument that the "rejects" from a lot of these states are as good as what you'll find in Mississippi. For instance, Dexter McCluster is a Florida reject. Did the state of Mississippi produce a better player in his class at his position? What about Lawon Scott? He was a Florida reject. Did the state of Mississippi produce a better DT in the 2007 class? I'm not sure, but I doubt there are very many.

I wish we had done better in state this year, but in all I think we're signing a good class, and even if we had done better in state, I would've wanted us to go out of state for about half of our class. I just don't believe you can build a winner in the SEC with just Mississippi players. I just don't think the state produces enough. You have to supplement from outside, and states like Florida, Georgia, and Texas are the places to go for that talent.

why do you have to start and stay in MS to win?

MSU Cox ---- UM Drummond, Williams
MSU Boyd ---- UM Gaines
MSU Russel ---- UM Cotton
MSU Perkins ---- UM Neat
MSU Thames, Lawrence ---- UM Kellam, Crawford, Junaid
MSU Jackson ---- UM Massie, Brown
MSU Smith, Bumphis ---- UM Brown, Logan, Neat
MSU McKenzie ---- UM some walkon

For every guy that MSU got in state there is a player that is at least as good or better on paper from out of state(obviously we will find out). I just don't see the big deal.
