1. Although our Co-DC combo is still unproven, I will make a leap of faith and declare that we have the best coaching staff that we have hadsince the early 90's. I anticipate us creating several turnovers on defense and as an added bonus, we now have CB's and safety's that can convert the turnover into 6 points. As a result, I think that we will giveour offense a short field a couple of times per game. Banks, Broomfield, and Mitchell are all great athletes back there.

2. We have a handful of athletes on offense that are legitimate threats to take it the distance on any given play. I honestly don't remember us having so many options of the caliber that we have. Bumphis, Perkins, and Heavens are going to keep opposing DCs up at night worried $hitless. And we have a head coach that knows how to put them in position to excel. I am extremely impressed with Bumphis. Some of the moves he made last year just aren't common at allin the SEC with a true freshman. The td catch against OM last year is just an incredible display of atheticism. The dude is a special player.

3. Football games (especially in the SEC) are won and lost in the trenches. I think we are solid on both sides of the ball up front. If we can stop the run, I am confident that we can hang with pass-happy teams now that have amuch improved secondary. I just see us bringing more heat on the defensive side instead of sitting back on 3rd and long situations.

4. This has to be the most energetic coaching staff that I've ever seen at MSU. Players feed off from the energy and enthusiasm. What a huge change from the prior staff. Polar opposites.

5. My wool has grown artic zone thick. For those of you predictingour SEC record at 2-6, I just don't see it. We went 3-5 last yearin the league. This was in the first year of a new coach (and new offensive scheme) while being led by an undersized DII quality QB. We were one handoff to Dixon away from going 4-4 in league play despite horrible QB play.

Kudos to the students for snapping up tickets in such a quick fashion. Folks, one thing is for certain. We are going to be an exciting team to watch as long as Mullen stays. We are going to turn some heads this year.I can't wait.

at DWS this year. To be honest with you, UGA doesn't scare me to death either. They will be a solid team, no doubt but other than AJ Green, what playmakers do they have?

Go look at every team Mullen has coached. Year 2 has always been a breakout year. Get ready.

If you were to just read the Pack, you would swear ther Mullen has been the HC every step of the way.

He may be the next Bear Bryant, but he hasn't done **** yet except go 5-7 in his first season. I really don't know where the wool comesfrom each year. Seems likeafter the LSU game, everyone around here should be back to reality. </p>

that improved tremendously last year and hopefully the record will support it this season. Go kill yourself.

Every damn Ole Miss fan has to come on here and tell us why we are going to suck. Go talk about it on NAFOOM.

After spending 5 years watching offenses ranked outside the Top 100 of D-1 football, I can understand being wooly at seeing a team have a clue in that department.

I think Mullen can be a good coach, and he did a good job in Year 1 making you competitive with turnovers being your biggest issue, but the one thing TBagger is right about is that this is Mullen's first gig. Every school where he's been an assistant has had a big jump in Year 2, but being an assistant at a program and running your own program are two different things. Every school URBAN MEYER has coached has had a Year 2 jump. Will Mullen be the same kind of coach and will his teams experience the same rebuilding schedule? Maybe, but it's still an unknown.

do you really think we need your permission to get fired up about a coach? What an arrogant prick.

Can we say "every offense" Mullen has coached? Pretty please?

Mullen wasn't as fortunate as Nutt to inherit a bunch of draft picks to coach. And he still beat that Mississippi ***

Get the P.I.'s ready- you're gonna have a ****** November once aGAIN

I'm glad to know you at least think we have a reason to be a little wooly. It really does make us all feel better knowing that you can at least grant us a little room to grow. And you are so totally right about Mullen. We should go into this season with complete cautious optimism, because it's not like we have a proven head coach winner like you do. I mean, I really don't know what I'm thinking, getting excited about this upcoming year. I need to probably chill a little and listen to your advice. It'll be much more enjoyable to just go and watch us play with no hopes of winning a ton of games. After all, we can't all be like you guys.

Go 17 yourself you 17ing prick. See, there are actually games to play that will justify or sheer our wool, and we don't need you around to make sure poor ol' State has lowered their expectations to where you think they should be.

This coming from a fan base who hired Coach Yaw Yaw because he had 'won national championships' with USC.

Cool down. Flab used Urban Meyer's teams as an example of what will happen in Mullen's Year 2. That's the part of TBagger's post I said he was right about.

You can't do that. If you want to say you were competitive last year and would've been 7-5 against a really tough schedule had you just been close to even on turnovers, then yes, that's a reason to be wooly. A very correctable issue separated you from going bowling against a ridiculously tough schedule. That's a reason for optimism.

You can't say all of Mullen's previous teams have had improvement in Year 2 like Flab did, because he's never had a team before. Tell me where I'm wrong, and I'll shut up. Until then, you don't have to be a dick.

No, I don't have to be a dick, but I'm trying to be one. This crap you're saying is insane. Do you care so much about why we're excited about the upcoming football season that you've got to needle down every reason and make sure it jives with what you think? Get over yourself and get a life, prick.

It's less than two weeks until kick off. Nobody here has to justify why they're excited about the season. It's typically the only time MSU fans are ever excited about football. We've got games sheer the wool if that's the case, and then we can all look back and realize how stupid we were.

I'd rather be fired up now and proven wrong later. But no one should have to justify their excitement right now.

a rhetorical question. Thanks, too, for dissecting our own coach's resume. Why should any fan of MSU give a flying %*@! what you think? It's 10 days until kickoff, and if we want to say "get ready for a breakout year", would it kill you to just bow the %*@! out?

Yes, Mullen was a QB coach. He coached WRs before that. He's also been an integral part of Meyer's offense at every stop, and in Meyer's offense, year two has been a big year at every stop. Dan Mullen is Meyer's protege, and models his entire approach after Meyer's. It's perfectly reasonable to draw that parallel. You can argue with that. You can deny that. I don't care what you do, but I have no regard for your opinion.

Mullen is a hell of a good coach. Anyone but an Ole Miss homer can see that. I just pray that Urban's heart/head whatever it is stays healthy.

I've begged dawgstudent many times to get rid of them. But he thinks they add to the board. Yet in all reality, like you, they add nothing but ignorance.

Yep. They can post whatever they want within the rules, just like any sixpacker. They aren't free from any backlash though.

You don't have to reply to them, and last thing we want is to do something that brings you around more often.

You're mincing words when you understand the general sentiment of what is being said... you are (in all likelihood) doing this because you are an OM dickhead who can't stand to see your in-state rival relishing last season's improvement and looking forward to this season with a glimmer of hope.

Just clarifying what was said, don't shoot the messenger/be a dick/whatever...

(2) Until I'm banned, I'll poster here as often as I please & what I please.

I find it amusing the same people that ran off HD6 so they could keep their board pet, coach34, around is talking **** to me about being "a bad poster."

The stats guys have shown that pick 6s are not a skill and are mostly a function of chance. I recently witnessed two State fans get into a sauce-aided argument about the '99 MSU defense and eventually made a bet involving how many TDs it scored. That great secondary only had 1 interception returned for a TD (they looked it up). The '07 MSU defense had a lot more. Five maybe?
