A Second Corn Dog 7 in Laurel?

Edit to add— If you want to debate amongst yourselves if this has anything to do with Steve Forbert’s “Goin’ Down to Laurel” **

it doesn’t — the song predates Corn Dog 7
I've smelled paper mills all over MS that would gag you, but nothing would gag you like Sanderson Farms when they were processing chickens at that plant down by the airport in Laurel. You could ask what is that smell? Their reply was always "that's the smell of money being made!"

Laurel is a **** town in a **** county. "The Free State"....

That show doesn't change anything. Laurel will always be Laurel.

The best thing to do in Laurel on a Saturday night is load up the truck and drive to Hattiesburg.

I was surprised to learn Sbarro pizza still exists. As a kid I used to always get that at the Jackson mall. Also, the dude who worked there looked like Dennis Eckersley, but sadder.
There is one in Northpark mall and I think there used to be one in the outlet mall by BassPro but its gone.

We were at a golf tournament one time, I believe in Memphis, and met a family that had flown down from California. I talked to them a while and their plan was to drive through Mississippi to the airport in New Orleans to fly back so they could see Laurel because they liked that home improvement show or whatever it was. I was dumbfounded, could not believe all the way from California and making sure to stop in Laurel before flying back.

I'm originally from laurel, born and raised. i don't get the national and the international draw of people selling everything to move there. the lingering concern is that none of these people have brought any industry to the area. So once the show dies, and it will, so does the city. the rise property taxes isn't sustainable with any industry growth to support it. by the way, i still love some corn dog 7 after all these years.

The jalepeno cheese corn dog is the best!
As for people moving there, most are saving a ton of money doing it after selling a home and getting a lower priced home, and lesser taxes and cost of living.

What's different from this scenario than a retirement city? Retirees don't bring "any industry" to those areas but do spend their life savings there buying cars, appliances, houses, etc. The city is going to "die" when they stop making a dozen 50 minute videos a year there?

I went to JCJC for two years before coming to State and we’d drive by that plant going from Ellisville to the gym out on 84 west of Laurel. I always thought it smelled a lot like dog food, but worse. Thanks for that. Haven’t thought about that in years.

I thought Sbarro was gone as well. Doesn't matter - Costco has the best pizza-by-the-slice around, and it's cheap. $2.

Reminds me of my mother in law that used to work at Cooper Tire in Tupelo. When she got home at the end of the day, my father in law would complain how she smelled. Her retort: "Smells like money to me."

I wish we could find employees like that nowadays.

Laurel is a weird town and as someone who grew up there I amazed how fascinated with it people are. I have lived in Starkville for years and now the Jackson area and never had a big desire to move back.

Corn Dog 7? Are they counting the stick to... More like Corn Dog 5-1/2... Am I right?

ETA: Yes. When I read corn dog 7. I immediately thought about a 7" corn dog. That made me think penis. I don't know what else you people expect from me here... I'm just a twisted freak.

In all my years of growing up in Laurel & going back to visit parents, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten at Corn Dog 7.

The smell is from industrial levels of corn dogs being smoked on a Masonite flame
Girl I used to work with said Laurel was an ugly town. I said, what? Then I realized the only part of Laurel she ever saw was I59 driving from Hoover to Ocean Springs to visit her boyfriend, now husband. So I agreed, but told her she’s seen more of that part of town than I have. And I grew up there. Also explains why Steve Forbert from Meridian write that song. That part of Laurel ain’t the good part.
