L.C. Bird continued their end-of-season run with a 35-7 playoff win over Western Branch. The Skyhawks started the season 3-4, but in their last three games, they jumped ahead of Western Branch and earned a home playoff game.

Senior running back Tyrell Allen, who had over 1000 yards rushing during the regular season, was the workhorse for a dominant rushing attack. Unofficially, I had Allen with 34 carries for 273 yards and three touchdowns.

Neither offense could find a rhythm early, with four punts in the 1st quarter. The Skyhawks scored the 1st time they had the ball in the 2nd quarter. Allen broke free for 31 yards, then reached the endzone on an 18-yard touchdown run.

L.C. Bird didn't have the lead for long as the Bruins completed a 61-yard touchdown completion from quarterback Timothy Pierce to Amari Harmon to tie the game at 7-7.

A Bruins interception led to a Skyhawk touchdown before the end of the half. Senior Marcus West returned the pick to the Bruins' 17-yard line, and Allen scored his 2nd touchdown for a 14-7 halftime lead.

The score remained 14-7 heading into the 4th quarter after a missed field goal by Western Branch to end the 3rd quarter. The final 12 minutes were dominated by the Skyhawks, who scored three touchdowns to put the game away.

Allen gained all 80 yards, including a 53-yard run and a 9-yard touchdown run for a 21-7 lead. Western branch fumbled the kickoff, and senior Demetrius James scored from 36 yards to extend the lead to 28-7 with 7:36 to go in the 4th quarter.

Another interception resulted in James running one yard for the final points. The Skyhawks will travel to Oscar Smith to face the defending Class Six champions.

Western Branch finished the season with a 6-5 record. They had half a dozen starters out of the lineup in the playoff game, including Rivals 4-star Q'mari Hudson, D1 commit C.J Frasier, and their starting quarterback, David Ortell. Junior Hosea Fortune was a bright spot at linebacker.
