Can someone explain to me how this works with them in the vhsl? Can they still recruit? Basically where do they draw their players from?
True. It can hurt Glass or Heritage. Maybe Brookville and Forest but now they cannot offer scholarships to LU, that will not be as much as an incentive now. Plus tuition is high and heard their enrollment was down. Time will only tellSupposedly there enrollment zone is city of Lynchburg. Course if someone other area wants to send kid there far as I know they can. It doesn't matter there middle to lower end of Seminole district
I'm sure enrollment dropped some when they did away with scholarship program im sure that hurt new enrollment.True. It can hurt Glass or Heritage. YesIs it true that a Lca wide out transferred to Heritage this year? I thought I remembered reading that early this season.
Yes. Niyheem Sims is his name. He attended Heritage 9th & 10th. LCA 11th grade and now is back at Heritage for his senior year.Is it true that a Lca wide out transferred to Heritage this year? I thought I remembered reading that early this season.
think it a set multiplier that usually how it works in states that have public private combinedI believe there is a multiplier of some sort for every school district that has a student attend LCA outside of the city. Not sure of the details, but I know that they can take kids from anywhere but that there is a multiplier if they take kids from Campbell or Amherst counties for example.
LCA will be 4a as long as they choose to keep the multiplier. If they decide to drop the multiplier then they will be the 2nd smallest 3a team. The pro would be that they play teams with the same amount of kids. What's happened with LCA is with a smaller enrollment they have less than 10 lineman and only 30 or so players well most those guys play both ways so they run into a GW or Salem with 60 kids, their opponents are fresher and LCA runs out of gas. So you are playing similar teams. The con is your a private school so your schools livelihood is depended on enrollement so a con to it would you lose the ability to pull from both city zones instead of picking one. So I think LCA needs to stay 4a and use both zones to help keep their enrollement up. As they win Seminole games and acclimate to beating the 4a schools around this area, they will get kids from heritage and ec glass along with others.Would LCA consider the 3A option the next reclassification period? What are the pro/cons?
Excellent explanation. This is how it works. LCA is able to pull from heritage and ec glass zone bc LCA took a 1.5 multiplier. They are locked into that until the next reclassification time. When they joined to vhsl in 2015, vhsl gave them a choice, pick a zone either ec glass or heritage and be a small 3a school or take a 1.5 multiplier and pull from both zones and be a small 4a school and that's what they did.
Since joining the vhsl, LCA has followed the vhsl rules as far as recruiting and 5th year seniors which was legal in the public schools. The lone 5th year senior they have on the roster is 18 so he's under the age limit the vhsl gives so he was grandfathered in. People claim that LCA still has recruits which can't be true bc anyone that recruited before 2015 would have already graduated.
As far as getting players from other vhsl schools outside of the city of Lynchburg zone, the kid has to enroll in LCA before their 9th grade year. If they come in after 9th grade, there has to be an address change to an address in the city zone. If they transfer in after 9th grade without an address change they must sit out a year, losing a year of eligibility. A player from outside a vhsl school, like a player from North Carolina, can transfer into the school and must be in the school zone without losing a year and play right away. That's the rule for all vhsl schools.
While LCA can does not have the lu scholarship to hand out anymore and tuition is high but not as high as most private schools in Virginia. LCA does offer some financial aid to families that need it and that's available to all students from the sports Allstar to the book worm, it's not full aid but they will cut tuition rates and set up affordable payment plans. LCA has a lot of donors and alumni that give back to the school for this reason specifically.
LCAs enrollment has dropped since losing the LCA scholarship. If you look at enrollment LCA is a small 3a school even with the multiplier but they agreed to vhsl the locked in to 4a till the state does reclassifications. But what most people don't know is that in the last 5-7 years or so to get the full lu scholarship you had to attend LCA from 3rd grade all the way through (it was a 10% scholarship for each year you attended). So if you came in your 10th grade year you only received a 30% scholarship. About 2 years ago they stopped offering the lu scholarship which hurt their enrollment. It wasn't because they joined the vhsl that they stopped, lu stopped it. Lu stopped it bc they have established themselves as a university now so they no longer need the scholarship kids to boost their enrollment numbers and they were losing money by providing this scholarship seeing bout 85-90% of LCA senior class was going to Lu. Lu has been trying to pull away from LCA and Thomas road baptized church for years now since Dr. Falwell passed and this was just the first step.
They have one that was grandfathered in who is still 18yr.old... get over it. I bet you could look at the team picture or game film and can't pick him out. Yeah they can pull from the entire region just like other vhsl schools can as long as they move into the school zone or sit out a year if you wanna live outside of the school zone, just like heritage has 2 players who came from northside last year. I'm guessing they moved into the heritage school zone. So yes LCA can pull from the whole region. So LCA still has 5th year seniors and can pull from the entire region. Sounds completely fair....
LCA gets a 1.5 multiplier for doing that making them 4a. If they didn't take a multiplier then they would be 3a and pull from one of the zones so it would be unfair to one of the school regardless but LCA is a school on the city so they would have to pick from the city zonesBut isn't that unfair to glass and heritage?
That's is exactly right. A kid from outside the school zone would have to start from day 1 of 9th grade or if he's older sit out a year unless they have a physical address change just like it would be for any vhsl school.I think the kids from glass or heritage still would have to pay to enroll at LCA so I’m not sure if that really is hurting their enrollment. A large number of the LCA kids I knew when I was in school were from the suburbs of Lynchburg such as forest, boonsboro, Timberlake etc. these students must pay to attend from what I understand from speaking with enrollment/admissions personnel with the school, amazing what you can learn with a little research. The student must comply with VHSL rules if they aren’t a 9th grader. For instance an 8th grader can technically enroll in any high school of their choosing for 9th grade, but if it’s not in their district their parents may or may not pay for them to attend if they are “car riders”.
Example: forest middle school student 8th grade attends Brookville for high school enrolling in the school from day 1 of 9th grade is able to play, but if they leave and want to return to JF without moving addresses (can use a neighbors and would be eligible) will not be able to play.
LCA is a private HS a part of the public league so their enrollment is difficult to gauge as there aren’t many privates in va with 1000 students walking the halls. So they took a larger pool to naturally have players districted from the city of Lynchburg instead of a smaller physical zone that the students would have to either choose free education or pay.
Well talk to the vhsl committee for grandfathering him in. So you would make that kid sit out his senior year and crush his recruiting process over something that is out of his control. He re classed when it was legal as a sophomore then they join the vhsl out of nowhere so you punish him and deem him ineligible.Doesn't matter how you justify it, if there is a single athlete playing that would not be eligible to play at any other school except LCA, there is an unfair advantage.
Just look what LCA did with a group of baseball kids that were mostly from Forest but too old to play there. They stole a state championship from a deserving team. They came in runner up the year before with recruits from as far as the Dominican Republic.... Should have never been allowed on the field.

Yeah most the baseball kids were from forest but were also at LCA before they joined the vhsl. Like to know what kids were too old or recruited bc those kids played middle school and jv ball together
He did delay it, LCA has been trying to get into the Seminole district since 2006-2007. So when they finally took them to court and the vhsl settled they had to jump right inIt's 100% the VHSL's fault. I don't blame the kid at all but they shouldn't pretend that they accomplished something because they chose to play the game with unfair advantages. ALL of those kids know darn well why they re-classed. I absolutely would make a "senior" sit out his 5th year unless he was in a league with other teams where they were eligible.
If the LCA AD wanted to keep a legitimate program he would have delayed the entry into VHSL competition until all kids were out of the system.

GW is just starting to go through a similar situation. Hargrave Military Academy just got a new football coach who coached at East Carolina last year and he is a big recruiter. After the LCA game GW lost their 2 way starter at safety and wide receiver to Hargrave. My understanding is there is a new law/rule that allows kids from Pittsylvania County/City of Danville to go to Hargrave for a fraction of the cost. The rest of the tuition money comes from the state government. So instead of a student having to pay 15 grand, he pays 2 grand. Also, GW's D-line coach quit 1 week before the first scrimmage and went to Hargrave. Come to find out he was recruiting GW players to get them to come out there as well. Rumor was he was even in the parking lot after a GW practice trying to talk to kids, telling them they would get a full ride somewhere if they went to Hargrave. What a joke. But isn't that unfair to glass and heritage?
Yep. These are all facts. I'm afraid that there will be more dreams sold in the future.GW is just starting to go through a similar situation. It can be a good option for a kid if he's struggling academically, or gets in trouble. But the player we lost already had good grades so he was going to play football in college either way. That's crazy bc hargrave is terrible in football. And have been for a while so what could their selling point be? The stadium is small and the weight room is way outdated and pretty nasty
GW has had some of their better players go to Hargrave but then transfer back to GW. Malik Clements and basketball player Cam Lewis are the most recent. You would think GW would bring in more college coaches since they have had several players go d1 over the past several years rather than go to hargrave
I will always be a Tim glass fan, even if he was only at LCA for a year lol. He was a great player and even more respectable manGW has had some of their better players go to Hargrave but then transfer back to GW. Malik Clements and basketball player Cam Lewis are the most recent.
HMA can give aid from their own money but I would be surprised if they receive any state money at all for anything. That would be filling a swamp with questions.GW is just starting to go through a similar situation. Tim is my boy! If he and Malik Clements had played together in 2014, GW would've at least made the state semi's.I will always be a Tim glass fan, even if he was only at LCA for a year lol. He was a great player and even more respectable man

Kids all over the state are still repeating their 8th grade year. The thing is even a public high school can reclass a 8th grader, the clock doesn't start till day 1 of their 9th grade year. So if a star at Sandusky wants to reclass before going to heritage he can then he would have 4years left at heritage as long as he doesn't turn 19 before aug.1
And LCA didnt reclass everyone the week before they signed the agreement that is made up bs and has not facts to back that up. They joined the vhsl during the football season in 2014 and joined Jan.1 of 2015. So they reclassed kids half way during the school year?! Get out with that crap and nothing to back it up
I think it used to be in most of these private school leagues that a kid could reclass anytime as long as they had not started their senior year. And yes, you are right about the 8th grade thing. Kids all over the state hold back in 8th grade..The thing is even a public high school can reclass a 8th grader, the clock doesn't start till day 1 of their 9th grade year.
