you may be right, but I was also thinking during the game, even if we had Ed Orgeron, could a STATE compete at a high level in the current recruiting world / transfer portal game...........I have no clue as to the answer, that was just my question

The only thing that gives me hope is that he doesn't want to show very much to Arizona State for the rest of the SEC. That is a pretty far reach. That is the ugliest half of football I have ever seen since _____.

You can pretty much fill your own blank. I really hope we approve a lot between game one and the rest of the season. If we can even stay on the field with these guys we have left on the schedule.

I guess the ol “don’t give away the playbook” was his philosophy all of last year too**

Nope. We have no Oline or Dline. There’s no hiding that. And you can’t hide sloppy penalty filled football.

We are going to be a lot better this year, but we still haven't closed the gap between us and other SEC teams enough to see a big improvement in our record. A lot could happen over the season though. Let's keep Shapen healthy and maybe some of our opponents lose their QB. We could have some unexpected chances. Keep in mind, we have to overpay for talent most times when we win 2 games per year.

I think we have enough talent to compete in the SEC at every position….except in the trenches. You can’t hide an o or d line deficiency.
With all due respect, I don't think that this is even close to being the case, and it will become even more evident if/when we are dealing with a few injuries. Throughout our entire starting 22, we may have 3-4 guys that could be starting for other SEC teams, and I think we'll find that the disparity between us and them grows exponentially as we start getting into 2nd and 3rd strings.

I’m talking about starters. I have no clue what our depth looks like. Our skill players on offense are as good as most Mullen years. Wide receivers are arguably better. The reason we could win SEC games then was our oline was light years better than anything we’ve had under Lebby.

Defense we could hand pick our best secondary through history and still struggle because of how bad the dline is.

I think he needs to play Jackie ball with that big offensive line and three bruising running backs. Pound on their asses, burn clock and win it with field goal in the end. We have a kicker.

I do understand what you’re saying and you may be right hell likely to be. But a part of me really does think he didn’t get very deep into the playbook, maybe a little deeper in the second half. That’s all I’m saying/hoping is the case. That Southern Miss team wasn’t great but they are pretty talented and led by a pretty good QB but yea I do think that at first he didn’t want to get that deep into it. That’s all I’m saying but without doubt we’ve got things to work on for sure starting with the penalties and the team getting more in unison. The defense is better than last year especially some of the players and as a whole. Question is will it be good enough and with this being game one and an away game will they make the improvements needed. I did see some talent and some DBs that can cover pretty well at least we got some stops lol and forced a turnover or pick I mean. I will say Taylor looks like a beast when he’s out there at QB although we haven’t seen much dude just looks like he’s the real deal. Nothing against Shapen just saying he looks good. This is week one and we got a win just hoping to have a decent season. Haven’t given up yet after game one I feel like some people were sleeping on this Southern Miss Charles Huff team. They aren’t great but they will make noise in their conference for sure with all the transfers and their QB. Seems like Huff will be a good coach for them.
