I don’t know why people turn down bowls in this era of college football.
At the very least it keeps your players at practice and around the team. Instead of at home around family telling them they need to get that bag somewhere else.

Both opt-outs lost their head coaches. Auburn turned it down, same kind of deal (though their coach was fired, unlike the first two).
I’m not sure why UCF would turn it down, maybe they would lose money on it.

Im not understanding why Arnett would not be coaching. He is now the DC. Hutzler is not. I would be disappointed if he ain't coaching and evaluating
Yeah, it's not like the game is next week. It's a month away. Time for him to review film on the players and work on his install. It's not like the last 6 weeks were really lighting it up anyway.

I don't think getting a bowl game changes my opinion of the season. I saw marginal improvement, but at least it was improvement. The bowl game is strictly because eligible teams opted out, so the coaching staff doesn't get credit for that, IMO. I want to see a team who wants to play hard and win on Jan 2 and go from there.

6-year contract extension for sure ******
I’m ok with this as long as it’s a $1 buyout if we want to fire him and a $10 mil buyout if we want to keep him.

Also I gave him a D. He still gets a D. He lucked into this

A win and we are undefeated in 2026 until we lose a game. And we need to count it towards next season's win total. A loss, however, should NOT count for next season.***

Bowl practice needs to be all about installing his defensive system & not much about game preparation. It’s almost an exhibition. Treat it as extra spring practice.

Does this change the letter grade you give him for the season. What if we win the game?
No it doesn't. He didn't suddenly get better because other teams were opting out of going to a bowl and he fell into it. His record is still the same, the decisions he made this year didn't change, he's still the same guy who was making those decisions against TX FL, and TN.

This reinforces my belief that there are too many bowls that have very little meaning.
What meaning do they need to have? You get to see your team play one more game and the players get to have a cool maybe festive experience. I get that a lot of the bowls aren't super prestigious but what would you rather be watching other than more college football?

(I admit that I'm sort of hating how the expanded playoff means that anyone outside of those 12 teams will feel let down by their season, so "bowls are just a pointless waste" vibes are just adding to my gloom and doom. I guess it's worth something to see if the team that ends up the national champion really earned it, but is Tulane losing at Ole Miss in Oxford in round one really going to be as fun as going to the Gator Bowl would have in a typical year? I bet not.)

Wow. You're a Lebbophobe.

Get some help.

All I mean is it used to be a badge of honor to make a bowl. It is not any longer. I’m all about more football.
