Lebby lost a large portion of the fans tonight

Yeah. If we had a time out I maybe understand trying to get closer. But with no time outs just kick it. Lebby outsmarted himself. And for a 5th year qb, Shapen had zero awareness of the situation.
The thing is Shapen doesn't care. He's been playing for like 50 years, he's older than anyone he's playing against and he's just out there for himself at this point.

I was close in my remembering. Anyway, it turned out to not be the wisest choice.
The funniest part was the game had unofficially ended. A Bama receiver had run out of bounds as time expired and the refs called the game over. Saban went apoplectic, arguing time had not expired when the Bama player stepped out of bounds. Replay backed up Saban, and 1 second was put back on the clock.

If you're going to throw the ball in that situation, go for the TD. If you just want a couple more yards, give it to Booth.
I honestly have no problem with going against the "conventional wisdom" and trying something heroic on that play. I wouldn't do it if I were a head coach trying to win his first SEC game, but go for the win if you must.

But don't come out of a timeout with that ****** play.

You cant afford to go 0-16 in conference either. MSU has invested a lot and it should buy more than was we are getting. You can't go zero wins in conference two years and keep your job. Even if you seen some signs of improvement and being competive. I'm sure he will get year 3 but if he goes -16 in conference he shouldn't
I can't afford to give money to something that leads to such disappointment and frustration. I wish I were rich enough to not care whether the money I spend benefits me.

They do. Remember when Saban had the game won against Auburn, tried a FG for some reason with essentially no time remaining, it fell short, and an Auburn guy ran it back about 108 yards for the winning TD? In retrospect, and even at the time, that was a dumb move.
That wasn’t a dumb call by Saban. He could have taken a knee to go to OT or go for the win on the road. He chose to go for the win. Yeah, it was a long FG, but weighing that against the statistical probability of something like a “kick six” that has happened almost never in the history of college football, it’s hard to say it was a dumb move.

You have to feel that 99.9% of the time, that’s at worst, a miss with time expiring or the returner getting tackled somewhere around the 20-30 yard line.

It certainly doesn’t rise to the level of “throw into traffic with time winding down while up 2 and within FG range”.

I just realized something. When had State run a quick slant all game long? Never. Why were we running a quick slant there? Dumb. How did they know we were running a quick slant there since w hadn’t run one all game. Do they have Michigan’s Spy Coach on their sideline?

We weren't. Receiver was to go to the logo and stop. He didn't. And Shapen threw it late as well
